I'm indonesian and the way you're speaking is a little formal for me. The indonesians usually use "aku" in informal situation. But,if you think this video is formal, you can use "saya"

HERE : heres the special thing of Indonesia, it have so many different cultures, islands, and LANGUAGES like :Java, Bali, Sunda, Papua, kalimantan, sulawesi, aceh, and many more. and it's the national language :). they're different, but one.
sorry, I've been away from on a deep forest for while. I just returned to Indonesia by yesterday. I'll try to answer your question.
The language itself is old. It's kind of diversion from Melayu(Malaysian language). Long time ago, they used Sanskrit, just like Java and bali language. But since when I'm not sure, they start using Roman character. I believe they changed it since English was already a key-language at that time(I mean british was the strongest during colonialization era).
before islam came to indonesia, indonesia had been under the influence of indian culture, including the writing system (Pallawa script). before the introduction of indian culture, tribes in indonesia did not develop their own writing system. it is after the indian culture reach indonesia, they started to develop their local scripts based from the Pallawa.
when islam began to arrive in indonesian soil, arabic script was observed along with the local scripts
then the Europeans came and started to take control. the romanisation process began. Portugal came first, followed by Spain, Britain and finally Dutch imperialism began to colonized the kingdoms situated in Indonesian archipel. British realm took control over indonesia, but for a short period bfore reigning the malay peninsula. Then the dutch imprl. grew strnger and supressed the native kingdoms, which eventually put local scripts to an end., replaced by latin scrpt
