it worked to delete the files until i did a soft reset...then everything was back.

If you have root access, you don't need terminal or astro, you can install "SD Maid" to do your bidding. From there, you can search and delete files if you know their names. This program can search and modify root. It can also search for empty or folders of programs that are not installed.

I tried to delete Swype as i dont use it but it says:" # rm -r /system/app/Swype.apk

rm failed for /system/app/Swype, Read-only file system

Thanks for the tip. I have had an Android phone (HTC Aria) for a couple of days now. And yes, I have been seriously annoyed by the AT&T bloatwarez. A couple of days for familiarizing with the device and I will root it or try the new Cyanogen(mod). This I updated to Froyo in the first minutes I had it. Nice but not nice enough. Perhaps the CG guys will have IceCream Sandwich up soon. Having ported my old contacts from wm6.1 to the froyo phone, I'm almost good2go.

oh please, this can be done so much more easier. Just download the free version of titanium backup (there are other backup / file mananger apps able of doing this as well) and go to the second tab; Backup / replace.

There you can see all installed apps, services, widgets everything. Select one, and delete it, just make sure you don't throw away system service's...

Remember, this can only be done after rooting.

I'm having trouble using the terminal emulator. When I open it it reads

"$ export Path=/data/local/bin:$PATH"

Then the next line starts with $ But when I type in su and give it superuser permission it says "not found" if I close the app and try again it says permission denied how can I fix this?

So after "successfully" doing this on my droid 2, the file name for the youtube app is completely gone when I look through both astro file and root explorer...but the app icon for youtube did not disappear AND the youtube app still works. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@badaf yes, as far as i know you need a rooted phone to remove preinstalled apps. ive found a lot of help in androidadvices(dot)com upgrading to ginger and rooting. there are a lot of good "howto's" working good for me :) all the best amigo

tried this method and the mount -o rw, remount /system wont work on my gingered galaxy SII. finaly was able to delete all craps with a free app called Root app remover available in market. ty anyway for the time on this vid ... keept my hope to remove YouTube.crap high at all time :)
