I have HTC Sensation XL, when I did this to delete /system/app/Tango_1.6.apk, it deleted that file, but tango can still be opened and used. How/why?? do I need to delete something else?
If you have root access, you don't need terminal or astro, you can install "SD Maid" to do your bidding. From there, you can search and delete files if you know their names. This program can search and modify root. It can also search for empty or folders of programs that are not installed.
Here's a list of the all the stuff I deleted. hope this helps everyone else. android uninstall system apps version 2.5.3 program locations: /system/app/ThinkFree.apk /system/app/scvngr.apk /system/app/Protips.apk /system/app/Layar.apk /system/app/Android_Boost-Hookt.apk /system/app/Talk.apk /system/app/Swype.apk
hey guys there's an app that will do all these steps, and typing for you. It's called --->Root browser lite<---, from JRummy16 better than having 2 apps, you'll only need one, and you won't have to type the file name.
Thanks for the tip. I have had an Android phone (HTC Aria) for a couple of days now. And yes, I have been seriously annoyed by the AT&T bloatwarez. A couple of days for familiarizing with the device and I will root it or try the new Cyanogen(mod). This I updated to Froyo in the first minutes I had it. Nice but not nice enough. Perhaps the CG guys will have IceCream Sandwich up soon. Having ported my old contacts from wm6.1 to the froyo phone, I'm almost good2go.
oh please, this can be done so much more easier. Just download the free version of titanium backup (there are other backup / file mananger apps able of doing this as well) and go to the second tab; Backup / replace.
There you can see all installed apps, services, widgets everything. Select one, and delete it, just make sure you don't throw away system service's...
I'm having trouble using the terminal emulator. When I open it it reads
"$ export Path=/data/local/bin:$PATH"
Then the next line starts with $ But when I type in su and give it superuser permission it says "not found" if I close the app and try again it says permission denied how can I fix this?
So after "successfully" doing this on my droid 2, the file name for the youtube app is completely gone when I look through both astro file and root explorer...but the app icon for youtube did not disappear AND the youtube app still works. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
@badaf yes, as far as i know you need a rooted phone to remove preinstalled apps. ive found a lot of help in androidadvices(dot)com upgrading to ginger and rooting. there are a lot of good "howto's" working good for me :) all the best amigo
tried this method and the mount -o rw, remount /system wont work on my gingered galaxy SII. finaly was able to delete all craps with a free app called Root app remover available in market. ty anyway for the time on this vid ... keept my hope to remove YouTube.crap high at all time :)
Good video. But its definitely not worth rooting your phone if you don't absolutely have to. Just download panda home and hide the apps you don't use.
What can you do if after typing the line with the app you are wanting to delete, it says "Read- only file system" and won't allow you to delete? I have input several apps at the end of the command line, but they all state read-only.....any suggestions? Much appreciated!!
i have the mytouch 4g and when i type "su" "enter" i get a message saying access denied....so i tried downloading another terminal but its even worse....the second one just force closes and wont even let me open it ugh!!!
@jjose467 you gotta get visionary to root your phone, once rooted you gotta get superuser so it can allow you to acess everything and from there it should let you acess
I did everything the video says "rm failed for /system/app/Blockbuster.apk, Read-only file system" I have the droid x any ideas how to do it? I have a rooted droid so thats not the problem
im a little new to my phone, and i know its dumb but how do i delete roms(the game ones for emulators: ex snesoid gameboid) from my phone(mytouch 3g)? i really feel lost i would totally sppreciate the help plz
hi, thanks for the video, I have a problem after typing 'mount -o rw,remount /system' as su on rooted n1 I get: 'Usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-t type] device directory'
wow i have been googling how to do this all day. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! would you be able to add a list of apps you've removed that were safe? i'm on the fence about some..
Hi, thank you so much for posting such a grate video, I have the NEW HTC EVO and I had followed all instruction, but when I type free i get not found, and also export PATH=/data/local/bin:$PATH $ $free free: permission denied $ su # free free: not found #mount -o rw,remount /system Usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-t type] device directory # Please help. Thank You.
"user commands in terminal: su (enter) mount -o rw,remount /system (enter) rm -r /system/app/FILE-NAME-HERE.apk (enter)" That wasn't working for me on 1.5 I had to do this: su mount -o remount, rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdbock3 /system mount -o rw,remount /system rm -r /system/app/"FILENAME" ________________ Just incase anyone gets stuck. Thanks you though, I never would have got this far w/o your help.
im rooted on cyanogen 5.0.7 (latest) and i get this error when tryingto remove quick office unknown option -- ?busybox v1.16.1 androidfull (2 010-03-28 22:34:45 EDT) multi-call binary. Usage: rm [OPTIONS] FILE... Remove (unlink) FILEs Options -i always prompt before removing -f never prompt -R,-r recurse plz hep me =]
i tried this on droid and it totally worked, one question though, the space that those apps were using, is that space useable space now? or is that space still reserved and non useable? lol either way im glad to not see those on my phone!
The best way to do is Root your phone..and use Titanium backup to remove stock apps or push some apps to system.. :D
