the music to this series (the one played here) is beautifully haunting, can anyone please tell me the name of the piece....if anyone knows, i would truly appreciate it....thank you.
Tara looks awful here-very bad hairstyle, and her gruff voice is very annoying. She sounds like a man almost. She should lay off those cigarettes-bad for the vocal cords. But Toby looks handsome as always.
Although unflattering, Tara's hairstyle is actually quite accurate for the time period. The same can be said for Jane Eyre. The austerity also suits the character's social status, etc. I prefer it when a production is historically accurate that way.
I love productions that are historically accurate as well but surely they could have found a time appropriate hairstyle that was not quite so hideous?
By and large, the hairstyles of the time were ugly. Especially those ringlets over the ears. Jane Eyre's, in more than one production, looks like the underside of a dressage saddle.
@WldIrishRose - "I prefer it when a production is historically accurate that way". I absolutely agree, and I don't think the hairstyle is that bad anyway.
Toby Stephens is the most amazing bronte actor. I have to say he was the best Rochester in the 2006 version of Jane Eyre and he totally won me over. If you haven't seen his performance as Rochester, you have to look it up NOW
Oh my God - I just realized how gorgeous Toby Stephens is! That hairstyle really suits him (and I think he's the only person who could have pulled off the long hair in Jane Eyre).
does anyone know where I can watch more videos from this movie? I am trying to figure out if it's available online or if I'll have to buy the DVD. Thanks!
It is a lovely production, if not accurate to the book, I think it portrays Helen and Huntingtons relationship pretty well. It was this introduction which made it very hard for me to see TS as a very convincing MrR, I just cant picture him as "an ugly man" after this .... :-)
Sure wish Tenant of Wildfell Hall was on Region1 DVD. I would buy in a nano sec. That Toby Stephens is such a good actor and handsome too.... His mother Maggie Smith must be so proud.
Did the scriptwriter actually read the book? Esther married Helen's brother Lawrence, she never thought that Gilbert had married Eliza. This clip has definitely convinced me NOT to watch the movie, if it can't be true to the novel.
yes, Gilbert was at a wedding. Helen thought that it was him getting married to the parson's daughter, hence her congratilating Gilbert and wishing them both happiness, etc.
I REALLY wish they cast someone other than Tara Fitzgerald.

The music really sucks though - sounds rather anachronistic, with the drums and whatnot.

Yes, that's exactly what I thought. Terrible music thru and thru!

carolinehallstone 3 years ago
Same with Jane Eyre. Her hair was horrible and he fell for her anyway...

in the novel she is supposed to be hansome and beautiful , the characters in the book are better than these

i don't think they ever intended to be true to the book and cast an "ugly" mr. rochester...

if they did, they failed....but no they didn't, the film-maker said she wanted an actor who would be "knockout gorgeous"
