God speed the day when this knighting fad Shall go to the dogs and the dogs go mad.”
I didn't read the two books separately. I bought a combined version of the books called "The Wizard Knight." It's my favorite fantasy novel. "Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell" is the only fantasy book that has come close to knocking it off the top spot. "The Wizard Knight" is definitely a difficult read, but it rewards your patience.
i know this is going to be kinda random but i dont kno wher else 2 turn. so does any1 here know a book about an emo-ish girl that is having a hard time at school and at home she plays like those dragons n dungeon games?

wolfe is strong author and he has a great imagination however i dont think he deserves this much praise. mary doria russel's "the sparrow" and its sequel are what id call great work .Octavia E. Butler is on of the greatest american authors, of the 20th century. Butler is a scientific genios and i assure you " parable of the sower" is truly a must read for anyone who considers themselves a literary scholar.
i just meant praise from theese you tubers .really though i think his works are obscure for a reason .his writing is good but only weirdos like us wanna read a bunca morbid science fiction
@kenaeda65 He deserves all the praise he can get! He's actually quite underrated. The writers you mention are all really good too, but Wolfe transcends them in several ways. His language is undeniably greater, but it's his way of weaving the archetypes of fantasy literature with a truly satirical, self-critical manner that makes the (especially in Book of the New Sun) work like no other.
@11679MRT New sun pretty much ruined all other books for me... I find that I would rather read it again than read anything else. Gene Wolfe is the philosopher stone
Me too me too! I've only read The Wizard Knight so far, but it was one of the strangest, most moving reading experiences I've ever had. Meanwhile, the whole "Solar Cycle" sits on my shelf waiting for me to find the necessary courage. I love this author.
Long Sun (and New Sun) were AMAZING.

One correction: The description says November 2006, but Balticon 40 was Memorial Day weekend (May).
