Music is all about patterns. Clark uses so many different sounds in sutch a harmonic way, its an actual enjoyable activity for your brain to translate his music.
what the fuck planet is Clark from ? like, damn . i listen to weird shit all day.. warp, oldskool amen jungle, experimental shmexperimental. fucking weird shit for life... but Clark is just different even from the weird stuff . anyone else notice this ?
@OctopusFuckface whoa, now that i read this I can hear what he's saying, before i just heard i will find you winter ..................................... in the snow, fallen
Definitely one of the most underrated producers in the realm of electronic music. His music is so diverse it could be hard to gain a consistent fan base. Body Riddle and Turning Dragon are my 2 favorite albums from him, yet they are as different as night and day.
If Warp head office was really smart, they would make a videoclipe for this, this is what idiots listening to NIN should listen nowadays instead but they will not because Warp doesnt market their artists properly, so those kids will never find this out ..
it's up to the artist to.. well... be artistic, they should market themselves, which is exactly what nin is doing btw, I may agree with you that this is what "the kids" should be listening to instead of new nin, but that isn't warp's fault, or at least it's only as much to blame is clark himself, he should be out there doing like he did with body riddle outsourcing some videos, though an "official" video would be nicer to have than a bunch of amateurish interpretations I still think its on clark
Hey, don't get down on NIN. I like NIN. There's a lot shittier music out there you could be criticizing that millions of sheeple listen to just because it's on the radio and on MTV. NIN hardly even gets airplay these days.
No, see I wasn't expressing an opinion. I am saying that NIN's mantra of alienation and shock value wore off years ago. Once you get passed that, the music was never much good(that is an opinion).
Same as Marilyn Manson, et al. Their music was never really too good, but their lyrics and images resonated with kids who had been lobotomized by their sterile suburban environments. With the advent of the internet, the whole thing has just lost its novelty.
@fleebenworth I never listened to NIN for "shock value", I genuinely admire Trent's compositional skills and performance, and I have on every album he's released. Year Zero is by far my favorite, and that album has no "shock value". You can say what you want about the message of his music and the lyrical value of it, but either way I actually enjoy the production value of NIN's work, past and present. Some kid on the internet isn't convincing me otherwise by throwing a fit on Youtube about it.
@Setherian if warp did that its possible that their artists would become mainstream and then sell out. happy enough the way things are because real music fans know this stuff.
Dont get me wrong guys, I love Warp anyway, but I think there is a LOT of people who could be listening to Clark if they knew Clark, but they won't know Clark because nobody showed it to them. I dont think it is as underground as it is because poeple is ignorant. The more people know about Warp and experimental music, the better this world will be, screw the underground, let it be for rats and shit music and lets make the great music the real deal for as much people as possible!!
Warp is fairly mainstream - the starting point, if you will. Don't get me wrong, Warp definfitely deserves it - but then you start to get into 2562 and Raster-Noton.
Funny u mentioned Raster Noton, I think they are quite mainstream focused lately, not a bad idea though, I prefer they lead the "minimal" front than shitty M_nus personally,.. it's funny how things goes, u do ur own thing, quitely and all of the sudden u are "mainstream potential" and u start to buy clothes and get fancy hair cuts and work on poses, haha, how mean of me! ;))
Yeah, that's the sad thing about this kind of music - it's really easy to become cocky because there's so little input. The best artists retain a sense of presence without over-doing it. A bit like Clark...
everyone I've showed Clark to is like "the synths are great but I can't stand how the snare isn't synchronized with the rest of it".
like... wow, have people really gotten that reliant on monotonous electronic music? listening to stuff like this is really inspiring to me at least, and would point me in the direction of seeing some more really good electronica in the near & distant future.
@zeecount The think about most people is that is no such thing as a unsynchronized snare imo. U can always subdivide tempo to make any point in time acceptable, specially when everything in the mix is mor or less free of the grid!
i have a simple "theory" to this: clark is avantgarde in IDM, it needs some time till his sounds reach everyone and therefore influence other artists. 10 years ago i thought the same about µ-ziq for example.
if you listen to other tracks from this album, well, i definitely wouldnt show everything to somebody that only hears to house & hip hop or something, just a few parts at max.
sounds change every now and then, its up to people like clark to bring fresh sounds.
@Setherian With music like this you have to use your imagination a little bit. You have to connect the dots & also think about what your listening to & that makes It much more rewarding than generic stuff you hear in the mainstream. Most people don't want to (or cant) comprehend let alone enjoy this kind of sound. That said, I think it takes training (progressing through other genres) to hear the way it is.
@Jaimeb14 or listening to IDM while you're tripping (acid for me) to "get it". i've tried to turn countless people on to this shit with not much luck. for me, i know that tripping cid and watching/listening to Aphex Twin music vids gave me a boner for idm hardcore. loved it ever since.........
it is underground, cause it is a special taste man..for example i don't think empty the bones of you would be acceptable for the ear of majority ! I describe the music of clark the best out there ! But that's just me and that's just you !
i did that and it got kinda annoying... but unlike most songs that get annoying after so long, if you just take a break, its just as good as listening to it for the first time all over again. amazing track!

lyrics: You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen Friday night and the lights are low Looking out for the place to go Where they play the right music, getting in the swing You come in to look for a king Anybody could be that guy Night is young and the musics high With a bit of rock music, everything is fine Youre in the mood for a dance And when you get the chance...
