When they eventually release classic servers due to account cancellations over MoP and the damage (no pun intended) that Cata wreaked, I fully support those servers using the official name World of Warcraft: The Old Times.
@SchwarzerWind I miss Vanilla too, very much at that, but bringing back vanilla servers, from where I see it, probably won't work. I started playing on private servers when I finally had enough of the expansions, and they were 100% functioning vanilla servers, everything worked fine. Thing is people didn't feel home anyway. They left, disillusioned as they thought that old feeling would return, but didn't. It's nostalgia, as many have pointed out, the feeling of being new in that exciting world.
oh and as much as I loved my Warlord Rogue PVP gear, nothing compares to Tier 2 Bloodfang, No other tier to this day comes close, except for Tier 2 Paladin, which was bad ass as well.
It's a love/hate issue with Classic, I love every moment of classic wow, the feeling of playing this game for the first time was like no other, the bad part was my drive to hitting Warlord/High Warlord in the old pvp system, which anyone who did that grind knows it was a second job. A million+ honor points weekly just to get the "best" pvp gear. Alot of pissed off friends and girlfriends who I had to bail out on lol
i starting in Wolk but i thought it was sooo fun. and from what ppl tell me vanilla wasnt all the great. to me 40 man raids, took forever and they where super hard i guess so lots of wipes. and 40 ppl in a raid and vent talk about afking and bios none stop. and lastly when u picked a class you had no choice. warrior=tank and pally =heals, so they didnt have tier gear where you could chose how you wanted to play. if im wrong please tell me this is just what iv heard dont shoot the messanger.
yup, this definately ruined my childhood.. who can't remember farming at tyr's hand for hours on end.. freaking out if a krol blade dropped. .. man. I stopped playing in TBC and i still remember all this. i didn't even have to google tyr's hand.. sigh
Bahaha its funny. I played WoW since 2005, and runescape since 2002. On both games I see people complaining to have the old style/version back. And tbh my theory is this. Your brain has memories of you playing the game. Which are linked to irl memories at the same time period. Your brain is tricking you into thinking if WoW vanilla comes back. WoW will be restored to its former glory. No.. The community has changed in 8 years along with everything else.
ahh vanilla WoW... back when that stuff was actually hard as hell and just as fun (until you got into a raid, and there was always that ONE GUY that had to ruin the awesomeness of it) and not everything was handed to you on a silver platter so that the challenge was actually worth it... good times :)
Once i was so happy to get even a blue item, until wotlk came out.... Has Blizz out of colours to use? Or they couldnt think of any colour superior than purple (exclude legendary).
WoW Vanilla raiding was so fun, i only pplayed vanilla and TBC but vanillia Molten Core was home to the funniest moments of my WoW playing time.... wipining 3 times on Ragnoras when he was 2% and 1% all 3 times consecutivly
when pvp ment hour/2hour AVs with the people on the server, when the community on servers were actually a community
and who could forget the openining of AQ everyone and there dog was at the AQ gates (which on pvp servers was hilarious) fighting for 5 hours straight, FUN!!!
When they tookt he paladin quest away to get your epic mount, it put a tear in my eye... Than seeing all these kids with the mount...so sad... made me feel worthless.
People say that vanilla kicks so much ass but i think it is becouse of the nostalgia, the feeling of being a noob on a huge world, that feeling will never return even of vanilla does.
@Undeadguy95 It's not solely a filling. the game is so simple and city now. You sit in a city and queue. You don't make friends. You don't care about anyone but yourself. It's a pathetic way to build a community. Server communities are dead. LFR will destroy enough guilds.
I wasn't raiding, but I still miss it. Because it was a wolrd. An opened world where you were just an adventurer. Remember the druid, the warrior and the warlock quests? The low paced leveling? Yes, sometimes it was pain in the ass, but I loved it. The long runs, when you had time to breath and look at the world, listen to the ambient and the music. It was just pure atmosphere. Now it is so linear. I had to admit it is more heavy with lore, but it feels rather like a co-op game.

ITS NOT ALL ABOUT GETTING PVE AND PVP GEAR And surtently not instant as in cataclysm.. vanilla was more for open world pvp, exploring with ur 60%speedmount cuz 100 was to expensive,fishing,the events such as darkmoon faire,brewfest,valentines day,halloween,pilgrims day where epic cuz all people particiated in it. and omfg the gear looked 10000times better than cata. AND EVERYTHING WAS SO AWESOME OMFG!

And i asked my mom for it after TBC was out but i dd not know it required a subscription at the time. luckily she said no. so i started playing almsot the day Wotlk came out.i jsut wisyh i could see the good old days.
i can't really see what was better from vanilla then now i played in vanilla and only thing i liked more then was that you couldn't qeue for dungeons/battlegrounds except if you walked to them but i think wow improved more then otherwise
The reason Blizzard won't make Vanilla or BC servers or Wrath servers is that the game was actually awful back then. Cata has made so many improvements it has streamlined questing and just made the game so much more playable that to go back you would realise how lower quality the game was back then and then you'd be all over the forums QQing about how bad the servers are! You may disagree but I am correct, all you remember are the good times, or you're simply being nostalgic.

It was hard, and you had to do alot to even get blue items. + how fcking hard can it be to make a vanilla server next to the servers they have now... I dont get it...

LOL THE GRAPHICS. mate in 2004 wow the graphics were SO GOOD and the improvements in cataclysm as far as ive compared them and the lamps and everything and the terrain has only improved slightly in the 7 year peroid which is dissapointing because its not a BIG improvement. Original wow is by far the best. the new terrains are dark and dull and not dark and awesome like prebc ones

youll find no one without epics.

i just played ZG/MC and quit after Ahnquirai opened it's gates. And imo it was so epic because there where new and epic things everywhere. i mean you came to the gates of ahnquirai with some lvl 40 character, before there was even a dungeon... there have been unknown lvl elite dragons in the middle of a low level area... just facinating. Hyjal,deadwind pass etc were not even done completly! most ppl didnt know kazzak,azuregos etc... seeing an epic lvl 60 item the first time was like "wtf"
Everyone should go on a wow strike,,and make blizzard change the game ,,and bring back quality!! and not be in it just for the oh mighty green back!!!!
Blizzard destroys without knowing it...I miss the good and epic chain quests...I miss the wars at the crossroads....i miss everything and it doesnt get better with mists of pandaria :(
I can't understand why Blizzard can't host a couple of vanilla servers. It wouldn't cost them much, yet I'm sure it would make a lot of us oldschool players really happy. I stopped playing after leveling my paladin to 85. If vanilla was aviable, I'd play WoW to this day. I guess Vanilla is and will be just a nice memory of my childhood. I grew up in WoW, and I'm sad to see it turn to rubish in front of my eyes. :(

@xXTrueSShotX Ya I am. I played for well over a year in the BC and Wrath days. The game was my personal sanctuary awa from the stresses of life as I'm sure it was the same for many others. It wasn't just a video game to people, it was an alternate world for them.
I have some good news for us vanilla lovers, blizzard has announced that in mists of pandaria they are doing a full item squish, what does this mean? they are dumbing down every mod and every item in the games stats down to vanilla stats, this basically means players will have the same stats as we did pre-tbc, might influence the game in a huge way (:
@bacura101 That could be interesting, and yes that could affect the game a lot. But I highly doubt that things will start to become more like Vanilla WoW again. It seems, sad as it is, that Vanilla WoW is long gone, and will not be coming back.
Old WoW was fun, but unbalanced as fuck. Some talent trees (ie Holydin, shadow priest, feral druid) were flat out useless in raids. At least everything is viable now.
I`m so lucky to have played WoW on it`s pre-tbc back when I was 8 yrs old now I`m 13 years old, whenever I see videos like this, I feel happy that I have known WoW from it`s best ever days, so much nostalgia. *sob*
what i don't understand is why does blizzard just make some vannila severs and bc and so on. if pepol keep talking about how epic it was and they don't play wow more becuase of that there must be some money for blizzard and therefore a good resaon for doing it... thumbs up if you agree
@deruppergang unfortunately it isnt the same. the way that people talked about the game back then and how we saw it was special. now it would just feel pretend. i wish i could hop in a time machine and replay my days of vanilla when this game was an adventure. not a race or competition

I miss the days when doing a hard quest was challenging. Spamming the chat for a group. I miss the days when i went OMGOMG look at that gear! I miss the days when having epic mount was indeed epic. I miss the days where i could point at paladins and laugh at their 30 sec buffs (wich was consumed after they judged someone xD) But mostly i miss the sensation when playing WoW.
@DANZ0SE still wanna try? Play on vanilla feenix instant 60 realm with peaks of 500 players online at a time and a x12 or optional x1 realm with peeks of 3000 players on at a time.
@bridaco Actually Wrath is Better then Cata, Cause everything in Cata is "OP". Wrath was more leveled out and more fair. But the PvE in Cta is good. I'm thinking of getting a vanilla server.
I feel guilty I havn't played the original. I began playing after TBC was up, but only for a 2 week trial. Then when WOTLK came, I went to private servers, and so for Cata. Many of those places I soloed at 85, but it wasn't as fun as if I would have done them with a lvl 60 raid group. (or 70). Now we see at 25 man HCs only 10 people/ raid, all of them "epic" and that don't accept "undergeared noobs". They tell us to grind mobs for purples. Why did it have to turn this way?
@Anadeussi feenix is crap! 5man instances missing like 60% of mobs. stratholme full of shit not even scripted u can run straight to baron w/o killing bosses to unlock door... dm missing 80% of mobs doesnt work tribute run. scholomance is not scripted mb like 30-40% the bosses that u have to summon already in place without summoning events. to unlock ubrs u have to do quest.(feenix dont have that) onyxia quest chain needed to enter into lair. (feenix doesnt have that) over all its crap server.
@Anadeussi lava doesnt burn. brd missing so many events or they have em but not works well. missing many doors. i can say more shit bugs w/e u wish about feenix. u just dont notice that.

What I loved, and still love about vanilla, was the simplicity. I'm not talking game-play and etc, no... Look at the actual game design; it's simple, yet amazing. Monsters, armors, players and environment, everything is so... Simple and I love it! Nothing looks as over-powered as it does today, I find the D1 armors to be the most awesome sets out there, BWL features the most amazing bosses and... Everything was splendid back then :)
Not that the new "wave" is bad... But vanilla was vanilla.
l enjoyed the old vanillia and BC pvp, when you had to earn badges to get a piece of armour or a weapon. You got a scence of acomplishment (at least l did). Also feeling epic when downing a tough boss, l miss the classic dungeons aswell, these new dungeons are to easy. CC is on the back burner again. Getting gear is easy to trading honour points for justice points come on Blizz.
One thing i loved about vanilla was the community, everyone helped eachother, everyone knew eachother, we knew who the ninjas where, who the best Pvp'ers/raiders where - everything was social, light humoured and friendly. Now? Selfish children whining why they can't win a BG, whining things are too hard or too hard to attain, unsociable and boring atmosphere in the world, people raging at eachother. Glad i quit a while ago.
Maybe Blizzard will consider Vanilla servers now that MoP is poised to kill WoW. If they make Vanilla servers I will resubscribe after being away for years. I didn't quit because I was bored halfway through WoTLK, I quit because WoW was about to go downhill. Bring us Vanilla servers!

@tigurius555 still mists of pandaria is just gonna throw wow more down on the mmo lader... this game has lost it's epicness and have become a common example of a company runing out of ideas and the game is acctually holding ur hand the whole way. and with the raid finder tool ppl are now gonna get extremly lazy in the game. the finders are the worst piece of crap system. in vanilla u had to acctually lift a finger to get something done.
The main reason I preferred vanilla is epics actually meant something then... want an epic then? Either get REALLY lucky, have crafting friends in high places, or run a minimum of a 20 man raid. Pve Side. Grind countless hours each week to work torwards top ranked pvp sets. PvP side. Now? Run a 5 man or do 4-5 BGs. Soloing: way too easy and noob friendly now. Throughout time all they have done is dumb down the game. Thats why theres only a handful of us vanilla players left.

Back in BC ( Sorry but that's the earliest I played, it still had some WoW feeling but I know Vanilla was better ) I was in a party and a random mob in eastern plaguelands dropped an average epic, all four of my friends rolled need on the item, now when that happened in zangamarsh later in WOTLK, nobody really cared, because epics were so common. ;<

Judging from your comments I can't really see what you think is fun with playing computer role-playing games because they are in essence about character progression. People claim the expansions ruined WoW; they yell and shout for Blizzard to implement vanilla servers, they say this game has lost its “soul”, but I don’t think it’s the game itself that changed, but the people playing it.
In the end, what we all miss isn’t vanilla WoW, we just miss being noobs =)
@Margull Yeah for sure. i miss being new. Everyone just misses the expansion the grew up with. Im sure i would have liked cata if i started in it but my mind is just stuck in the burning crusade and wrath.
To be honest, I played this game for 2 years while serving national service (mandatory military service) in Singapore to pass my time. WoW freed me from the restraints from the real world during that time, and I had many cherished (and also unpleasant) vivid memories on this game. Imagine repeating the same routine of a 9-5 job in the military for 2 years, while freeing oneself to explore over a 100 places on WoW every night - it sounds nerdy, but it was the best time of my life.

Even though right now I am progressing in real life by studying in college and indulging in my own self-education, while consciously detesting the days of WoW that I may have wasted away, it still stands as a fact that subconsciously, the boundary between fantasy and real life was dissolved in WoW back then; these memories, however imaginary, are real in a perceptual and judgmental sense, and to deny myself of this is deny a piece of my own existence.
@creamie123 Those from Singapore, and who have served National Service (NS) would understand what I mean - WoW was not a maladaptive tool for some of us back then, it served as a necessary adaptive function that would thwart the possibility of going insane while being held in bondage for 2 years of our lives. @creamie123 ... time considering the huge opportunity costs that would be incurred if one were to get engrossed in an addictive video game that paralleled reality. It's a matter of rational choice I suppose, depending on the circumstances. Believe me, I did like to go back to the time spent in WoW, where exploratory fantasies were fulfilled daily through the consummation of these needs by seeing new content everyday, but there is no turning back now at this point of my life.
@creamie123 I now understand why many people choose certain MMORPGs in an attempt to substitute life - it's because of the apparently anomie within society, the sense of purposelessness, namelessness, lack of acknowledgement and opportunity for play and exploration due to societal constrains. Some MMORPGs really do a good job by offering new perspectives for those entrapped in their physical incarceration, by allowing their minds to 'free-float' in virtual reality.
@creamie123 I know this may sound a bit radical, in opposition to the amount of debasement of MMORPGs and video games by many activists or laymen alike, but please reflect on what I have mentioned: sometimes all people want is to liberate themselves from boredom and tasteless anonymity. Not all who have chosen to play MMORPGs are addicts; an addict is one who is constantly engaged in repetitious behavior but is at the same time unable to explore new content, because everything has been explored.

While MMORPGs may be a haven for 'retreatism', we cannot label some players as being 'retreatist' in nature when (1) they either have a balanced life consisting of play and work, or (2) simply have few other options due to enormous social hurdles to cross.
I agree with Razor. I started in vanilla, but didn't get to play much since I started playing WoW in 2006. WoTLK killed it for me, and I stopped playing for a while. For me Cata brought it back, but just by a hair. MoP looks very interesting, and honestly can't wait for it. Just think though, WoW has been going on for 7 years now, and it's not supprising to see all these cahnges. Maybe in WoW's final days they'll make Vanilla/TBC/WoTLK/Cata/MoP servers for us to choose and play on.
god! i started playing wow in 2006 and i quit for my exams</3 i just got it like 4 days ago... its got alot better, but all the things i used to work my socks of for are just way to easy now. Mount at level 20? and its only like 15g something. it used to cost like 150g! heirlooms and shit? taking the fun out of PVP yes.. people have worked hard for them but what about the other people? you could level to 85 in about 6-10 days now. would of taken about 20 days back then </3

Bahaha its funny. I played WoW since 2005, and runescape since 2002. On both games I see people complaining to have the old style/version back. And tbh my theory is this. Your brain has memories of you playing the game. Which are linked to irl memories at the same time period. Your brain is tricking you into thinking if WoW vanilla comes back. WoW will be restored to its former glory. No.. The community has changed in 8 years along with everything else.

ahh vanilla WoW... back when that stuff was actually hard as hell and just as fun (until you got into a raid, and there was always that ONE GUY that had to ruin the awesomeness of it) and not everything was handed to you on a silver platter so that the challenge was actually worth it... good times :)

WoW Vanilla raiding was so fun, i only pplayed vanilla and TBC but vanillia Molten Core was home to the funniest moments of my WoW playing time.... wipining 3 times on Ragnoras when he was 2% and 1% all 3 times consecutivly
when pvp ment hour/2hour AVs with the people on the server, when the community on servers were actually a community
and who could forget the openining of AQ everyone and there dog was at the AQ gates (which on pvp servers was hilarious) fighting for 5 hours straight, FUN!!!

I wasn't raiding, but I still miss it. Because it was a wolrd. An opened world where you were just an adventurer. Remember the druid, the warrior and the warlock quests? The low paced leveling? Yes, sometimes it was pain in the ass, but I loved it. The long runs, when you had time to breath and look at the world, listen to the ambient and the music. It was just pure atmosphere. Now it is so linear. I had to admit it is more heavy with lore, but it feels rather like a co-op game.

And i asked my mom for it after TBC was out but i dd not know it required a subscription at the time. luckily she said no. so i started playing almsot the day Wotlk came out.i jsut wisyh i could see the good old days.

The reason Blizzard won't make Vanilla or BC servers or Wrath servers is that the game was actually awful back then. Cata has made so many improvements it has streamlined questing and just made the game so much more playable that to go back you would realise how lower quality the game was back then and then you'd be all over the forums QQing about how bad the servers are! You may disagree but I am correct, all you remember are the good times, or you're simply being nostalgic.

LOL THE GRAPHICS. mate in 2004 wow the graphics were SO GOOD and the improvements in cataclysm as far as ive compared them and the lamps and everything and the terrain has only improved slightly in the 7 year peroid which is dissapointing because its not a BIG improvement. Original wow is by far the best. the new terrains are dark and dull and not dark and awesome like prebc ones

@waxcoatedbanjo It was harder back then, more rewarding, more challenging because. you had to move your ass to the place to get good gear and not just have portals do it for you and more fun when u got the gears because now its too easy and you dont feel satisfied enough with your gear because you didnt work hard like old wow for it. in cataclysm now everyone gets 85 epics now which make it crap. because
youll find no one without epics.
And mainly the music old wow has.... old wow > cataclysm

i just played ZG/MC and quit after Ahnquirai opened it's gates. And imo it was so epic because there where new and epic things everywhere. i mean you came to the gates of ahnquirai with some lvl 40 character, before there was even a dungeon... there have been unknown lvl elite dragons in the middle of a low level area... just facinating. Hyjal,deadwind pass etc were not even done completly! most ppl didnt know kazzak,azuregos etc... seeing an epic lvl 60 item the first time was like "wtf"

I can't understand why Blizzard can't host a couple of vanilla servers. It wouldn't cost them much, yet I'm sure it would make a lot of us oldschool players really happy. I stopped playing after leveling my paladin to 85. If vanilla was aviable, I'd play WoW to this day. I guess Vanilla is and will be just a nice memory of my childhood. I grew up in WoW, and I'm sad to see it turn to rubish in front of my eyes. :(

I have some good news for us vanilla lovers, blizzard has announced that in mists of pandaria they are doing a full item squish, what does this mean? they are dumbing down every mod and every item in the games stats down to vanilla stats, this basically means players will have the same stats as we did pre-tbc, might influence the game in a huge way (:

I miss the days where i could point at paladins and laugh at their 30 sec buffs (wich was consumed after they judged someone xD) But mostly i miss the sensation when playing WoW.

I feel guilty I havn't played the original. I began playing after TBC was up, but only for a 2 week trial. Then when WOTLK came, I went to private servers, and so for Cata. Many of those places I soloed at 85, but it wasn't as fun as if I would have done them with a lvl 60 raid group. (or 70). Now we see at 25 man HCs only 10 people/ raid, all of them "epic" and that don't accept "undergeared noobs". They tell us to grind mobs for purples. Why did it have to turn this way?

@Anadeussi feenix is crap! 5man instances missing like 60% of mobs. stratholme full of shit not even scripted u can run straight to baron w/o killing bosses to unlock door... dm missing 80% of mobs doesnt work tribute run. scholomance is not scripted mb like 30-40% the bosses that u have to summon already in place without summoning events. to unlock ubrs u have to do quest.(feenix dont have that) onyxia quest chain needed to enter into lair. (feenix doesnt have that) over all its crap server.

What I loved, and still love about vanilla, was the simplicity. I'm not talking game-play and etc, no... Look at the actual game design; it's simple, yet amazing. Monsters, armors, players and environment, everything is so... Simple and I love it! Nothing looks as over-powered as it does today, I find the D1 armors to be the most awesome sets out there, BWL features the most amazing bosses and... Everything was splendid back then :)
Not that the new "wave" is bad... But vanilla was vanilla.

l enjoyed the old vanillia and BC pvp, when you had to earn badges to get a piece of armour or a weapon. You got a scence of acomplishment (at least l did). Also feeling epic when downing a tough boss, l miss the classic dungeons aswell, these new dungeons are to easy. CC is on the back burner again. Getting gear is easy to trading honour points for justice points come on Blizz.

One thing i loved about vanilla was the community, everyone helped eachother, everyone knew eachother, we knew who the ninjas where, who the best Pvp'ers/raiders where - everything was social, light humoured and friendly. Now? Selfish children whining why they can't win a BG, whining things are too hard or too hard to attain, unsociable and boring atmosphere in the world, people raging at eachother. Glad i quit a while ago.

The main reason I preferred vanilla is epics actually meant something then... want an epic then? Either get REALLY lucky, have crafting friends in high places, or run a minimum of a 20 man raid. Pve Side. Grind countless hours each week to work torwards top ranked pvp sets. PvP side. Now? Run a 5 man or do 4-5 BGs. Soloing: way too easy and noob friendly now. Throughout time all they have done is dumb down the game. Thats why theres only a handful of us vanilla players left.

The content is miles and miles harder now then it was back then, the only challenge in vanilla was getting groups together.

Back in BC ( Sorry but that's the earliest I played, it still had some WoW feeling but I know Vanilla was better ) I was in a party and a random mob in eastern plaguelands dropped an average epic, all four of my friends rolled need on the item, now when that happened in zangamarsh later in WOTLK, nobody really cared, because epics were so common. ;<

@PWNJoker You should obviously be rewarded according to the time and effort spent playing the game. What they are doing now is just catering to the insta-win adhd crowd, i.e. making as much money as possible.

@PWNJoker There's the problem right there. It's not supposed to be a competition of who's the best but a sense of progression for the player. Judging from your comments I can't really see what you think is fun with playing computer role-playing games because they are in essence about character progression. Maybe, if you think that is unfair, you should find yourself another genre?

@Lorino3308 this sounds cheesy but i honestly get teary eyed when i watch this. people that havent played vanilla cannot understand how amazing this game actually used to be. back then it was an adventure and people were united but now its just a race to be the best rather than trying to have fun with it. and i remember looting an epic in vanilla and being extremely excited but now its like. meh

@Lorino3308 Aye, you are so right. I've played since Vanilla. The new Expansion looks like shit, and in all honesty. I believe I'm going to quit wow soon. All they have done is dumb down the game. If Blizzard releases a Vanilla WoW server, I would in all honesty.. be willing to pay a monthly fee for it.

People claim the expansions ruined WoW; they yell and shout for Blizzard to implement vanilla servers, they say this game has lost its “soul”, but I don’t think it’s the game itself that changed, but the people playing it.
In the end, what we all miss isn’t vanilla WoW, we just miss being noobs =)

To be honest, I played this game for 2 years while serving national service (mandatory military service) in Singapore to pass my time. WoW freed me from the restraints from the real world during that time, and I had many cherished (and also unpleasant) vivid memories on this game. Imagine repeating the same routine of a 9-5 job in the military for 2 years, while freeing oneself to explore over a 100 places on WoW every night - it sounds nerdy, but it was the best time of my life.

@creamie123 It's nostalgic to say the least. Even though right now I am progressing in real life by studying in college and indulging in my own self-education, while consciously detesting the days of WoW that I may have wasted away, it still stands as a fact that subconsciously, the boundary between fantasy and real life was dissolved in WoW back then; these memories, however imaginary, are real in a perceptual and judgmental sense, and to deny myself of this is deny a piece of my own existence.

@creamie123 Those from Singapore, and who have served National Service (NS) would understand what I mean - WoW was not a maladaptive tool for some of us back then, it served as a necessary adaptive function that would thwart the possibility of going insane while being held in bondage for 2 years of our lives. @creamie123 ... time considering the huge opportunity costs that would be incurred if one were to get engrossed in an addictive video game that paralleled reality. It's a matter of rational choice I suppose, depending on the circumstances. Believe me, I did like to go back to the time spent in WoW, where exploratory fantasies were fulfilled daily through the consummation of these needs by seeing new content everyday, but there is no turning back now at this point of my life.

@creamie123 I now understand why many people choose certain MMORPGs in an attempt to substitute life - it's because of the apparently anomie within society, the sense of purposelessness, namelessness, lack of acknowledgement and opportunity for play and exploration due to societal constrains. Some MMORPGs really do a good job by offering new perspectives for those entrapped in their physical incarceration, by allowing their minds to 'free-float' in virtual reality.

@creamie123 I know this may sound a bit radical, in opposition to the amount of debasement of MMORPGs and video games by many activists or laymen alike, but please reflect on what I have mentioned: sometimes all people want is to liberate themselves from boredom and tasteless anonymity. Not all who have chosen to play MMORPGs are addicts; an addict is one who is constantly engaged in repetitious behavior but is at the same time unable to explore new content, because everything has been explored.

@creamie123 On the other hand, voluntary non-addicts are simply doing what comes natural to humans: engaging in play, curiosity and knowing. While MMORPGs may be a haven for 'retreatism', we cannot label some players as being 'retreatist' in nature when (1) they either have a balanced life consisting of play and work, or (2) simply have few other options due to enormous social hurdles to cross.

I agree with Razor. I started in vanilla, but didn't get to play much since I started playing WoW in 2006. WoTLK killed it for me, and I stopped playing for a while. For me Cata brought it back, but just by a hair. MoP looks very interesting, and honestly can't wait for it. Just think though, WoW has been going on for 7 years now, and it's not supprising to see all these cahnges. Maybe in WoW's final days they'll make Vanilla/TBC/WoTLK/Cata/MoP servers for us to choose and play on.

god! i started playing wow in 2006 and i quit for my exams</3 i just got it like 4 days ago... its got alot better, but all the things i used to work my socks of for are just way to easy now. Mount at level 20? and its only like 15g something. it used to cost like 150g! heirlooms and shit? taking the fun out of PVP yes.. people have worked hard for them but what about the other people? you could level to 85 in about 6-10 days now. would of taken about 20 days back then </3
