@JugheadObama Oh Yes, I See. I'd Think It Twas Longer Than Ten Years Ago Though! This Particular Dub Was Jimmy's Personal Copy Sent Over From Sid Woloshin Himself. (Tails Out - :^).
@Mangomn2003 Tails out, which meant you had to rewind it before dubbing. Packed the tape evenly upon playback completion and supposedly prevented bleed through from one layer of tape to the next. We had a period in the early 2000's where we would still get the occasional tape from other stations, as we're in a under-populated area and were late to the broadband party. , I don't know how we did it. Quality audio is taken for granted now--then it was a lot of work for sketchy results.
No it was said perect. the late 60s and 70s had two audiences. "blackish" and "whitish" regardless of who what who they targeteded that.
And good for them. McDs saw the "blackish" audience as important.
Get out of the color world people.Sure there is stlll racism and sexism. But until we stop calling ourselves white/black.mex it will continue. If you live in the US you are american. Period
Woha I gota way off topic for a coke is it commercial..
How come all the people form the ads are black, I refuse to believe that "The Man" was trying to push the stereotype that black people eat fast food while white people eat at the Olive Garden.
@reborn2603 The Answer Is Very Simple. In The 60's And 70's There Were Two Marketing Strategies Employed. One Targeting Whites/Caucasians (Pop/Rock Music aka Barry Manilow) And One Targeting Blacks/African Americans (R&B Music aka Jimmy Radcliffe).
@Mangomn2003 No I don't think it's that simple. There are strategically more mcdonalds in the inner city than the suburbs . Today we have Mcdonalds commercials w rappers and bb stars targeting blacks. Fast food is consumed at much higher rates in the inner cities than the suburbs.
@eyeswideopen86 Yes, But At That Time McDonalds Was Not The "Mega" Franchise That It Is Today And In That Era They Recognized The Need For Specific Approaches For Different Target Consumers.
Actually That Is Not As True As You Might Think... In Fact The Issue Is Simply That The Lines Between The Different Marketing Approaches Has Virtually Vanished Because Of The Assimilation Of One Approach Into "Mainstream" Marketing.
Now, when African American music and style is blended into the mainstream of advertising, for the most part, no one takes notice and still receives the message as the advertiser intended.
Now that you mention it, McDonalds did have blacks in their ads a lot back then. If you read "Behind the Arches" it says they got pressure to find black franchisees about 1970 or so.
yes! lol black ppl always puttin soul in something, i love it

The box cover is from a tape dub sent to radio stations--today all ads we get are via e mail. We got our last tape dub at least 10 years ago.

Haven't seen a box like that in years. Only thing missing is whether the tape was Heads or Tails. They all are mp3's in an email now.

@JugheadObama Don't Understand What You Mean They Are All MP3's In An Email Now?

That should have only started in the '90s

As This Was The Version Targeted At The African American Consumer Doesn't It Stand To Reason That Images Should Reflect That?

Nothing has changed. Nearly every commercial today is aimed at African Americans.

I not only think it's "interesting," but I also think it was a deliberate attempt at marketing to an indigenous urban audience.
