  • Such meaningful lyrics

  • it's all about that harmony in the chorus

  • "today I took food from the hand of a starving child" - as best a metaphor, right there!

  • A classic one of their best

  • aw man this takes me back..early days in college driving 'round the old hometown..

  • Very underrated song and band. I love this song.

  • damn have not heard this since high school.

  • Superb track - brings back memories!

  • I didn't like much of the rest of this album, but this was a good tune.

  • top band!

  • you can shove coldplay ,keane, muse, up your hole.

These lads piss all over them all.

  • @bohsblur man this group rules

  • thanks for the up!

  • Dude, you're a trip. You sound like you should write for Rolling Stones Magazine. Please do not consider that as a compliment. I'm trying to say....uhhhhhh, wellll...you know,....SHUT THE FUCK UP! What a piece of shit you are. It would be better if you died when you were a baby.

  • @SuperBobknob TRY WEST LIFE U IDIOT

  • The Carpets Where One Of the best bands of the 'Madchester' scene! they stood the test of time while so many other failed!

Live It, Love It & Live It like You love it!

  • This is so awful, it's awesome. Catchy tune, arrangements on the chorus are terrific, but it's a perfect parody of those ultra-self conscious Brit Pop dirges that weigh a ton - and I love every note of it for how terrible (and provocatively nostalgic) it is.

  • not if you were the last madchester band on earth

  • Today i took food from the hands of a starving child.

    BRILLIANT.

  • this is a great tune also check out their song please be cruel its brillant, great voice

  • fantastic song

  • No embedding? DAMMIT!!!!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG and now I love the video! Bands nowadays could take a few lessons from the Carpets! This is how it's done and thank you lennie3000 for putting this up! AWESOME

  • This chorus is HUGE!

  • Cool as ****, moo!

  • Blast from the past!! Thank you for this tune

  • Wouah Pure Pop music!

  • I can't believe i remember this song! I clearly remember in the video things spiraling. 80's clothing is coming back (and never again will i dress like that) but why can't music like THIS come back????

  • I had always thought this song was done by Midnight Oil

  • inspirals classic

  • funny video but great song.

  • i still love this song soooo much...great memories and my only worry was getting through the day in school

  • seminal

  • Masterpiece!!!!!!!

  • I'm getting dizzy! Awesome voice, awesome music, awesome lyrics ... One of my favorites for sure!

  • One of if not the best songs of it's era

  • Bellissima song!

  • It's heavenly beautiful. What a chorus!!!

  • That's a JAMM!!!!! One of my favorites! Video is amazing!

  • Lord of the Rings in the Age of Acids, I'd say ....

  • Opens souls, frees ears, a fuck of a paradise lost brought back, hell fuck fuck fuck, is this good, gosh gosh gosh ..!!!!!!

  • This song takes me back...Manchester had some great acts before the scene shifted to Seattle

  • Cool as Fuck... Goddamn were all gettin old now.

  • definitely getting old.....and def. cool as fuck.

  • agreed. GREAT song!!!

  • if there is a better song, I don't know it.....

  • Remember buying this on 'cd single' back in 1992 i think it was when it was released and playing it over and over.People seem to forget that these boys wrote some belters of tunes long after the Madchester era.

  • 1995 I think

  • Timeless beauty ...

... if that wasn't a nonsense since beauty always has to die one day ...

  • one of these chaps used to live up the road from me.

  • They are in a room that appeared in 2001: Space Odyssey!!. think..

  • Yep, went to see them live a 6 years ago and again about 2 years ago. they are still goin!!! MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • I saw them on the Revenge of the Goldfish tour at the famous Cat's Cradle club in Chapel Hill, NC...a woman from Elektra gave us backstage pass and we hung out w/ the band. Anyone know if Noel worked that tour?

  • got to find that on the net,im stuck in memphis, dont ever come here, birthplace of rock an roll me bollix,it was good once, music on the radio here is fuckin awful.

  • what are they doing these days..anyone know?

  • Tom, the singer is teaching me in college right now!

  • thats deadly,do they play together at all.

  • Awesome! Teaching you what, and which college? I love his voice and melodies.

  • manchester college in england

    he teaches music and society

    great guy

  • trafford music base?

  • no, manchester college

  • U lucky bugger !!..I,ve got the Moo cow T-Shirt

if you ever want to borrow it?...might embaress him a bit now though.

  • he went and did a lecture at mine the other week

  • Nearly...nearly.... a perfect song! Noel should have hung around longer and learned a thing or two about humility and songwriting...

  • Comment removed

  • Noel Gallagher was their roadie. Anything he's done since hasn't come CLOSE to this band.

  • actually what the fuck, the carpets don't need chart placings to validate themselves. they've done their bit. now we do ours and tell our friends about this band.

  • what a classic! songs like this and made of stone sound so flawless its like i've heard them before. the style, the message, i can just imagine this being #1 for 6 weeks or something during the fall of communism. except it wasn't. this is the definition of "underrated".

  • Incredible band with incredible songs. Really awful band name though. Down there with Smashing Pumpkins in the bad band name league.

  • Es algo forzado la letra, pero buena música!! La cantaba toda bien y eso que no sé mucho inglés!!!

  • Guess that makes me a bad man...

cant wait 4 the next tour.

    BRILLIANT BAND.

  • people pick on me at skol for liking these kinds of bands because im 13 only thing i can say is u dont know talent when you hear it

  • They pick on you for liking a class band?! Tell 'em to leave you alone and fuck off and die...I'm sure that their iPods are jam-packed with Lady Gaga and the usual shite...It's their loss...

  • They are small minded individuals scared of anything different.I would choose The Wedding Present, The stone roses,The Charlatans and The Inspiral Carpets over any modern shite because these bands write fucking TUNES!!!

  • Do they have any shit song at all? I begin to think that they were unable to write any bad tunes. What kind of chemistry was there involved in order to enable such great music? Love maybe?

  • good song

  • This is how it feels friends.

  • Brilliantly crafted & delivered, with such moving lyrics. A truely classic pop song that has stood the test of time.

  • "inspiral dandy massacre". go farfisa! loved this cassette to death !

  • When it comes to Britpop, IC is the only band you need.

  • IC's music is "madchester", not britpop. They were one of the bands that kicked off britpop, along with the the stone roses, happy mondays etc... Great band all the same

  • What have i done with my life?....Is this the end when two worlds collide? Today i stole the sun from the sky...........Love this band xxxxxxx

  • fucking class. BEST band ever...

  • Great lyrics

  • Good band in their day.

  • Absolutamente tremendo, demoledor temazo que pone los pelos como escarpias y acelera el pulso cardíaco en un remolino de sensaciones

  • I envy any person who was old enough to appreciate the awesome 90s alternative scene. I was 5 when this song came out; boy did I miss out.

  • it's amazing to think how noel gallagher started out as a roadie for this band, inspiral carpets and oasis are amazing

  • He also almost became their lead singer, well atleast he auditioned for it. Good thing he didn't make it or Oasis might never have existed.

  • michel gondry is unique and the inspiral carpets are surreal ¡¡¡ amazing greetings from PERU

  • Could apply to our Government in Washington D.C.; The temple which they built is an empty shell

The people who I see, scurrying on the streets, oblivious to our needs

I wonder sometimes how so many could be so blind.

  • Love this song... Not typical Inspirals but fabulous all the same

  • My favorite Inspiral Carpets track by a country mile. Such a brilliant record.

  • Inspiral Carpets foi a primeira banda de rock que me fez acreditar que jamais abandonaria o rock. Isso há quase duas décadas atrás. E eu estava certo.

  • I'm 60..I love em and always have, saw them back in about 90..? Thanks for the video...

  • first generation biofuel Today I took food from the hand of a starving child ?

  • lol I can't beleive that Tom Hingley came to my college and did you know... that Noel Gallager From Oasis used to do the sound for them.

  • Yeah, he was a guitar technician or something like that.

  • Cool VID - thanks for posting!

  • My fave song by these guys. So powerful. Brings back great memories.

  • This is a really great song, but it seems like the director couldn't figure out what to do for most of the video. After the 3:00 mark it get's really good, that's when the video matches the song, that's when it all gels. The rest of it looks like the director couldn't think of enough quality footage in time. But the last minute and a half is all aces.

  • GUESS THAT MAKES ME A BAD MAN !!!!

  • This song brings tears to my eyes...

  • Ha I know, just so, so good.

  • fukin tune

  • great camera effects 1.50 onwards. think the carpets were on a budget

  • damn....i can't stop thinking about this song man!!! it's like an addiction..!!

  • a good song to sniff glue to

  • its just one of those songs that gets

better with age, a fucking classic.

    inspiral carpets pure oldham magic.

    moooooooooooooooooo!

  • pivot1022 i think you are a fuckin fag

so dose my freind he thinks you are a arse bandit

  • ...why don't they make songs like this anymore??...

good question! I have every CD, but this is my favorite Song!!!

  • the charts are full of puffs or 1 hit wonders

  • why don't they make songs like this anymore??

  • They banned them.

  • Classic college era music for me. Top stuff. Still love it. See also 'I want you' and 'Dragging me down' by them. Top stuff.

  • I will not

  • This is a gondry video i believe

  • A classic..brings me back to high school..early nineties..:-)

  • I was just going to say I bloody love the inspiral carpets, i love the rifts and Toms voice is distinctive and takes me to a special place whatever he sings.

  • nice one wubbzy could not of said better myself mate, long live the carpets greatest indie band ever tom is a legend what a cracking voice, and clint on the old organ just awesome. There will never be another band like them i still listen to the boys 18 years on. cheers man.

  • great song.....cant be better

  • Disturbed? Are you fucking kidding me, mate?

  • 2nd best song they ever made.

Makes me feel like tossing myself off with a pair of pliers.

Seriously I just dont know what ive done with my life,.. WORKED MY WHOLE LIFE for what?

Too become an old, frail, fcuked up (physically + mentally) embarassment to society with a fat pension too spend on nothing because youre too weak to do anything remotely exciting.

ALL YOU PEOPLE ARE DUMB, lets all bomb the media Bring down the coreperate leaders of this SICK sick WORLD

  • You said it man. Listen to him people. We partake in a system which makes unsuspecting villains out of us. We work our meaningless jobs, get our fat pay-checks while this same social system is condemning millions of our fellow human-beings to starve to death every day. We are cogs in a machine and through our willing participation we contribute in the smooth operation of the system. "Guess that makes me (us) a bad man", as the song goes...

  • +ten billion for that post

all you or i can do is lead by example though. thats what i try to do. if you live and die by some principle, any principle even, its better than being a meandering and oblivious drone in the machine.

  • keep what yer got by giving it all away

  • noel gallagher and ian brown :D

  • Why does music suck so much now? Really there is so much dreck. Airhead girls who are marginally talented with the depth of linoleum seem to be dictating what we hear..oh and rap acts that all sound the same.

  • Listen to the band Disturbed. They have a great hard modern sound but deep meaning in there songs. Including a song making fun of music today. Name of that one is 'Sons Of Plunder'. They are a really good band from Chicago, IL, USA. You should look them up.

  • pukka sound still,proper music.

  • Korn is for fags. So is all rap. They and rap suck donkey dick so bad. How could you listen to that shit? LOL

  • I really really miss Alternative Nation and 120 minutes why MTV can cancelled those shows is beyond me. MTV sucks diarrhea shit out of a hippo's asshole.

  • why is this marked as spam?

  • Great song, great band. No argument. 5 out of 5.

  • what a wanker the last commenter is.

fuck off i say. inspiral carpets are

    cool as fuck, unlike you.

    mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

  • what a classic

  • korn does suck

  • Great, great song, one of the best songs ever made.

  • Noel gallagher was a "roadie" for these guys back in the 80's....

  • One of my fave songs.

  • Heard a member of the carpets say on the radio that if Coldplay released this song it would be a worlwide number 1. I think he was correct!

  • Today, I find this tune, which has played in my head, off n on, for 15 or so years.

Hearing it only once on the "indie Alt" radio in my old town, it was only id'd as "Spiral Carpets." As it swam in my head for some mysterious reason today, I now know why it took so long. WTF, I mean, where was everyone's ears? This tune, at the least, should have hit the #1 alt. spot back then.

A powerful sound with earth shattering lyrics. A+A+A+ all the way. Thank God 4 You Tube and contributors like this.

  • I think this song did pretty well in its time. Got heavy airplay on MTV around 1992 or so. I saw them play at the Town and Country Club in London in 1993. Was a good show.

  • Search for "Crank" by Catherine Wheel also. Another "blast from the past", that shares that british alternative sound from the early 90's. Probably got a little airplay on your local radio station as well.

  • Fan fookin Tastic! Very underated band!

  • omg thank you!!!!!!!! great tune!!!! they're really good!!! they'll live forever

  • was around this year month of its reliease i ended up nearly drowned on the dancefloor..but was resqued by a few old friends who heard my cry n saw me rising out the watery depths of the sea in los-paranoias...things were never the same since...thank fuck....exallent chune keep the faith hold it high n humbley proud, from here to eternity,,,keep raving on lads n lasses

  • I heard a much better mix of this song many many years ago on the radio. It had pulsating guitars instead of this 80's kind of sound. I tried to find that mix in the store but they didn't have it.

  • I agree with you, i have not heard this tune since the time it was popular in the radio, and i remember it was way more powerful.

  • You are refering to the remix on the 'Two worlds collide' single. I agree, it is better.

  • Old school! I'm waiting for the MTV 120 Minutes logo and Dave Kendall to show up. ;-)

  • is it me or is old music better then new but no one listens to old music this song is amzing and they should play it more offten

  • i KNOW! why does no radio station play this stuff anymore? if i hear one more nirvana song i'm going to jam a pencil in my own eye. are we going to have to wait another few years before it's considered "vintage" and good enough for radio play once again?

  • Gallagher used to be a Prop Comic for them, for anyone that didn't know.

  • Gallagher used to be a Prop Comic for them, for anyone that didn't know.

  • Noel Gallagher used to be a guitar tech for them, for anyone that didn't know.

  • Noel Gallagher used to be a guitar tech for them, for anyone that didn't know.

  • Love this still, after all these years, great for shakin' the windows, blast 'em right out!!

  • Oh, in this dusty city with all the gods on the hill

Will not one of them help us

The temple which they build is an empty shell

The people who I see, scurrying on the streets, oblivious to our needs

I wonder sometimes how so many could be blind

    (Chorus) x's 2

Today I stole the Sun from the sky, the color from the heart of a rose.

Today I took food from the hand of a starving child

    (Chorus) X's 2

    I guess that makes me a bad man ? X's 3

  • I steal to feed, I fight to breath, through hunger not greed

I find these days it's the only way I can survive

    (Chorus)

What have I done with my life

Is this the end, when two worlds collide

  • today i stole food from the hand of a starving child.. top that.moo!

  • They're playing at Shepherds Bush Empire on Sat (17 March)- cannot wait!!!! Anyone remember their gig in Chatham?

  • This band rocks, great tune; Thanks for posting.

  • Seeing these fuckers on Fri @ Manc uni , , , gonna be a great gig. . .anyone wanna share a beer n talk about the 90's ?

  • so them tonite at leadmill they wa FUCKIN AWESOME! ya in for a treat my friend1 directing traffic were the dogsbollocks!!;)

  • Manchester has always been the epicenter of real alternative music.

  • clint boon used to live next door to me :P

  • never ceased to amaze me how sedate they look in their videos? Jump around guys - this stuff is electric!
