@chavjones A bigger fail is that C_60 (or sometimes referred to as a Buckyball) is shaped like a football, not nobelium. On a more serious note, the elements that are very far along on the periodic table rarely have much to talk about. Nearly every one of them for which they've made videos contain information similar to this one.
A big explosion occurred on the 3 September 1864 at their factory in Heleneborg in Stockholm, killing five people. Among them was Alfred's younger brother Emil

Nobel's key absorbent ingredient for dynamite, as mentioned by Prof. Poliakoff but not included in the subtitles (1:28). Also known as diatomaceous earth, or diatomite (source: Wikipedia).
Sawdust is another absorbant substance (source: Fight Club)
The Nobel prize in Economics is handed out by a sister organization (the bank that holds the money). The literature prize was missed in his list of prizes.

my chemistry teacher is a twit .. im pretty sure i know more about it than he does .. it feels like im in an LD class .. he really ruins a subject i love .. but this guy makes it great, ive seen all the videos
There are no uninteresting subjects, only uninteresting teachers. I really like this gentleman. Like all good teachers, he makes the subject approachable and human.
I was a student at the UW-Milwaukee in the late 80's. My Physics 101 prof was so great. First he's have a demo and everyone would go "ohhh... ahhhh...." and then he'd diagram out the vectors and whatnot so you'd understand what you just saw. Only then did he give you the math so that you could predict what would happen. Easiest A and the most info retained of any class ever.
before that, they used liquid nitroglycerine for example. and this explosive oil might go off just because you look at it angrily. if you bind nitroglycerine using the hollow shells of marine algae, you get dynamite, which is MUCH safer than nitroglycerine. actually, dynamite is always packed using paper and wood so that nitroglycerine that leaves the compound can evaporate and doesnt collect at any sealed surface.
So how in the world did Obama get a Nobel peace prize again?

so what about nobelium? This is all about Nobel. Nothing about Nobelium other than it's shaped like a "football".... fail.

Heres this element. We know nothing about it. It has no use or application. But we have a funny story about its name!

XD haha, yeah. I guess it just fills a gap in the periodic table that would otherwise be empty.

MacGyver is known for running out of sheds with packs/crates of dynamite. Maybe handling that material wasn't so dangerous after all?
