OMG a remote control! if its what i think it is, its a dream come true! Whenever im watching a movie in bed on my computer im soo lazy to get up and turn it off at the end, a remote would be perfect! i got the same pc and it didnt come with a remote :(
@Skavaen Thanks man. I went ahead and bought the machine. Luckily Dell didn't load up the machine with a bunch of garbage so even if I do have to reinstall I won't have to get rid of anything.
@umainebearman Its a great PC. I love mine. Does everything I want and at the time it was cheaper to buy prebuilt hen to build it myself. I mainly use it for youtube video editing and the i7's power works great for my new HD AVCHD camera files. Enjoy your purchase.
@DeezilB I definately thought about it. Believe me. I was tempted to hold out and wait for apple to revise their macs with the i7 however when this deal showed up I just couldn't say no. It was a super mega steal.
@Skavaen oh nothing better than a good deal well except from james5.5!!!!!!! haha i've just got an the mac pro last weak to replace my macbook pro..have to say it's a total beast of a machine specs here Two 2.66GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” (12 cores) 6 GB (6 x 1 GB) i think i might marry my mac dude wet my pants when i seen it in the apple store anyway love the vids keep up the great work buddy
@cigsent well im about to get this same machine with only insted of 12gb im upgrading to 24gb. but on the display it said your able to upgrade up to 6tb ( you got 3 slots for drives ) so im sure u can
@jmdaccess It should. I haven't checked since I got mine. Only thing I was eyeing up is their laptops to replace my old 4 year old Dell Inspiron 1520. The 5870 is a sweet vid card but when you push it too hard you will slip the power supply into failsafe and it will reboot the video card.
@Skavaen Oh my really? I am getting the same machine with the same HD 5870 and I was afraid about the small PSU (475watts) but people told me DELL knows what they are doing but now you tell me that your PC has power issues?
@cinqo7 Actually...I don't have that issue anymore. I found out the problem was a flakey video card driver from Dell. I downloaded and installed the ATI Catalyst driver and it fixed everything.
@Skavaen Oh good! I am going to unbox my PC this Saturday. It's been here since Wednesday I can't wait no more!! Actually DELL shipped my PC pretty fast. Two weeks only since I customized my PC and got it to my home! Do you use the onboard audio via the HDMI output in your HD 5870?
@jmdaccess I just checked the dell site and you can get the 5870 in it still. Mind you I rebuilt my computer on there for fun and the price I paid VS the price it was before taxes was about 50 bux more then what I paid total...so yeah xmas time the deals were sweet.
o thanks, i guess the xps900 page i bookmarked was out dated, and wow thanks for mentioning the power supply, its amazing how they were able to run the whole thing with just that much power supply. now iv set my attention to digital storm systems..their build are kinda good at a decent price. Thanks!
@jmdaccess don't get me wrong..the system is well put together...but the price I paid compared to what they are asking now is really bad. Personally you can find better systems elsewhere for 2000$ but at the time this guy was only 1750 taxes in with 3 year onsite warranty. I can't complain one bit. Plays all my games like Mass Effect 2, and Bioshock 2. All in all its a rockin system...just wish now that Dell would pull their heads out their arses and do something about the studio XPS laptop.
How noisy are the fans at idle and at load? Is the XPS 9000 relatively silent most of the time when not gaming? Cool video. I'm jealous of your rig. I'm using a 5½ year old Pentium 4.
Actually to be honest its a very very quiet system. Even when I am pushing it hard playing the new Alien VS Predator at everything cranked in the video settings running direct x 11... the system runs nice and quiet.
I used to run an older system. My system before this was an AMD FX60 2.6ghz dual core. I would have still been running it if the motherboards north bridge didn't crap out. I always say...if your computer works for what you do then why upgrade.
Thanks for the response. I'm glad to hear you say it's good and quiet since I plan on using it for music production when miking my guitar for example, so the quieter the better.
I also wonder if the sheer mass of the case helps dampen any noise it produces - that case is massive!! The tech specs reveal that it weighs 40 pounds, which I'm sure you noticed when lifting it out of the box.
Yeah it definately sits higher then my old case, way heavier then my old case and alot more quieter then my old case. If you are going to do music editing I recomend getting a better sound card then the stock onboard one. Its kinda crap for direct input for your guitar.
I added the TV tuner when I ordered it. It was an extra 40$ at the time. Its the Hauppage 800 series. Its located in the second set of items you can add to the computer.
I checked the bios and lets just say its a very very stripped down version of the AMI (America Megatrends Inc) bios. Basic things are there like time, drives, boot sequence. As it stands right now I really don't need to...but I am sure there is a hack out there in the interwebz that could unlock this bios and let me blow up my computer in style.
Well the girlfriend still has her wow account active. Maybe if she is nice enough she will let me install her game and give it a go on this rig to see how well it works.
I want the xps 9000 so bad, but then I saw that it was only a 475 watts power supply..this sucks..how can you ran anything with that expecially the ATI radeon 5870, it needs minimum 500 watts...
I haven't really popped the case open to inspect the internal hardware. I thought they put a 750watt psu in there but now you have me wondering. I will probably be opening the case in the near future and doing a video on the inner workings of the xps9000
It all depends on what you plan on doing. A guy at work bought the aurora with simillar stats to my xps9000. In the end both systems scored the same on the windows 7 test. We benchmarked my xps9000 vs his aurora. My computer dominated his for the simple reason that he cheaped out on the video cards and put in 2 Geforce 260's in SLI. But in all reality it all depends on what you want this computer for.
I want some high performance gaming that's about it, and I wanted the ATI radeon 5870 ,6 gig of ram and the i7-920, but I fear the dell can't support it
and I can't think of anythign else right now but thats what mine is rocking and there is still room to expand. So far every game I put on this thing I cranked the video settings to max and it has no problem handling them.
nice, I think with 6gb I'll still be able to run everything perfectly, the only thing that is worrying me is the power supply..it must be bigger than 475watts, I'm sure dell made a mistake on their website or something because if you really have a 475 watts and you can make this computer open and run games without any problems then you are a god lol
the big LCD is a Samsung 32" TV which I bought about 3 years ago and the little 22" hanging on the side is a dirty Acer I got from walmart for 199 when it was on sale. Wish it was a Panasonic...maybe then the colour wouldn't wash out so fast.
Very Happy. It boots quick, runs quick, plays any game I throw at it quick. This system should last me a good 5 years before I need to upgrade it. Who knows though...with the way computers are advancing, in 5 years we will probably be wearing our pc's on our heads like sunglasses and using our minds to move the mouse.
haha yeah something like it. I thought the same when I bought mine. Trust me. It'll go 1 and a half year - 2 years til you're gonna want to upgrade. :P But still wont be needed though.
well my old rig was an FX60 on a 50$ 939 asus motherboard. Had 2GB DDR400 ram and a GeForce 8800GTX. I used that machine for a solid 3 years until the motherboard grenaded. I would still be using that machine if it was working and probably wouldn't have bought a new computer. I try to make my machines last a while.
is this thing good for gaming? because i want a gaming desktop.and can you run crysis on high or very high settings? if you dont have crysis you should pick it up because the game kicks ass
I just tried Left 4 Dead and Team fortress 2 and I cranked any video option I could find and it ran awesome. I am still on the hunt for crysis but I can't seem to find it in store. If all else fails I will just hunt down the creators of the game and see if they offer it in digital download. Games are usually cheaper that way anyway.
Lately that's all I have been using mine for. However its really fast for compiling videos or music in fruity loops. A 10 minute video on my old rig could take upwards to 15 minutes to compile where on this rig it takes about 2 minutes.
The 5870 sits at 7.4, its the hard drive that sits at 5.9 therefore the windows score is 5.9. Luckily HDD access isn't really influential on gaming as most of the time if a file or library is needed it usually pre-buffers it to ram.
Do you game with it ? If yes what kind of games ? I read over at the Dell forums that there are some overclocking setting in the bios. Have you tried them. Nice cat...
yeah I definately game with this rig. I play mostly steam based games like Counter Strike Source, Team Fortress 2 and a few others like mini ninjas and such. I was playing World of Warcraft but quit because it was chewing up too much of my life. I am going to be installing GTA4 on this thing to see how pretty it looks and also got Dragon Age to try as well.
As for the overclocking I haven't really bothered to do so as this computer is pretty quick stock. In the future if I feel the need for speed then I will go ahead and overclock.
I see you're in Canada like me, what was the delay between your order being placed and you receiving the notice from purolator. I friend of mine told me it's normally 2 weeks, what about in your case? Im planning to by that PC too but I missed the holidays specials on their website and fell like shit for it haha
Well it took about a month for them to send it. I ordered it on Dec 9th and it arrived on January the 4th. Not bad for something being shipped over the christmas holidays I must say. My only warning is the video didn't do it justice...The box they ship it in literally filled the backseat of my Pontiac G6.
Just ordered it yesterday and they says the estimated delivery date is in (approx) 5 weeks? did you received the same kind of delay notice and still received it earlier? thanks for the infos, appreciated
Yeah they told me the expected arrival time was January 11th 2010. I got it on January 4th instead. I guess it takes them time due to all the orders they get to piece them together. Once I got the shipping notification email it was just a matter of 3 days until it was at my door.
oh its not slowing it down. The hard drive scored the lowest score on the windows 7 experience test of 5.9. Everything else was at 7.4. I think it was due to the access time of a single drive VS a pair running in RAID
