Great video. Useful for my level! I've been using VFR or autopilot (always wondering how to intercept a g/s.) And now i know! thanks very much! Keep 'em coming!
Great work and thanks for the tutorial I couldn't find the white lines either but at this time I'm only using the demo waiting for the program to arrive. Perhaps with more choice of planes I can find the white lines. Every Best Wish
I am having troube with the guide slope...the localizer moves to the center but the guide slope doesnt activate...it only did it once out of several landings...any advice?
@HighDefinition339 didnt know that, because someone said me they use ils only to low visibility, but in good visibility they land by hand, thats what i have heard.
@skillsz0rs Depends on the weather. Pilots usually fly a "visual approach"(By Hand) during good weather, but when the weather is worse, pilots fly via the ILS
@skillsz0rs Depends on the weather. Pilots usually fly a "visual approach"(By Hand) during good weather, but when the weather is worse, pilots fly via the ILS
White line never appears, i have it set to nave 1 and on auto pilot. Do I need to have it headed towards airport or does the plane find that too with tha ills coordinates? Or do I have to find the airport and go into it in the direction of the runway for it to locate the while line?
dude thanks for posting those videos. I just have a question: when i enter the frequency of ILS in NAV1 and press LOC, i don' have those white bars... Any suggestions? I tried with both the 747 and the A 340 so i'm guessing i'm doing something bad
@dirtygangler3200 You dont get to fly it... or take off you can just do a re-entry or full re-entry which is just landing it and that takes a few hours....
You are an absolutely terrible teacher/instructor.
Please dont wasste your time. You dont seenm organized and you have terrible communication/presentation skills. What ever made you think that you are capable of instructing anyone??
@1easterling3 An instrument landing system (ILS) is a ground-based instrument approach system that provides precision guidance to an aircraft approaching and landing on a runway, using a combination of radio signals
You didn't mention in your video that you have to be lined up with the runway to intercept the localizer. That's a very important ommission! I don't think the aircraft will intercept the localizer unless you are already pretty well lined up. at least my x plane aircraft ignore the ILS unless you are in aproach mode and lined up.
not too bad at all... my only suggestions: get the actual approach plates for your destination airport (instead of using 3000 ft msl as a default app alt); and your speed at touchdown should be Vref + 5 (Vref is usually 1.3 times the stall speed)... but a good video nonetheless.
Pretty good but you lowered the gear too fast. Normally you lower gear around 500 to 1000 feet AAL depending on procedure. Normally you don't need to disengage autopilot completely depending on the CAT 1, 2 or 3 your aircraft can handle. If it can handle cat 3 it should be able to perform an auto approach and landing however you might need to guide the A/C manually during roll out. If not cat 3 equipped it is sufficient to dissengage the GS/LOC but you could keep autothrottle on untill idle.
yay!!! for the first time since i got my first x-plane, (about 4 years of playing OFTEN) i flew my first successful unassisted flight from denver intl, to orlando intl! took me 2 hours, and i flew by auto pilot that you taught me how to use! and landed how you taught me to land. yay! btw, i didn't get to land by this system you teach here. it helped me with other landings, i couldn't use the auto land... so i had to land it manually. but props to you dude!!!
@dillonyosten i agree only on it looks better, but x-plane rules more because it has the most accurate flight modeling, that is where FSX drops away. x-plane is very accurate with the aerodynamics and the airplane handling, that is why (i suspect) the Xplanetutorials guy and i use it.
@supersaintsfan31 i figured it out. i just flew my first ILS landing without knowing it. i was in a 787 Dreamliner. I found out not all aircraft show the vertical and horizantal lines. i used this link to help figure out. Hope it helps.
How exactly do you approach an airport when you are cruising at 36000 ft? Like how many miles out do you descend, how do you set the autopilot to descend?
I still think the tutorial is very informative and will help many of us who like to just sort of play. After all, we are not carrying passengers. Thank god for that.
Land it manualy you useless yuppie, sunday drivers. Full flaps 170 knots, final aproach 300 feet , cut engines and land at the START of the runway, not half way down it. Jesus chist!
Whats the point of simulators if it flys itsself. L.A.Z.Y, laaasssyyy!
hey you do have a point and thats why i hate airbus, BUT what happens why you need to land in 300 ASL visiblilty, and i think most airliner pilots use and ILS to land, at major airports...
@markelliot1979 U are right markelliot. and also something to add. When he zooms the camera, the 2-D cockpit doesn't zoom it stays the same! No Virtual Cockpit!
wow. that is not how they fly it. you don't hold 3000' on runway hdg for 3 minutes. It should be you descent to 3000' right before or right onto the glide slope so their should be a close to continues descent to the runway. That limits the noise pollution.
@jackgrocks well generally to intercept the glide you're at an average of 12nm from the threshold. So maybe she did actually maintain three thousand feet for a little long but on request from control tower and if you are sure too land at destination without diverting and you far long from the reserve Fuel QTY there no problems. But for a matter of ecology and economy it is surely non recommendable.
@charlieechovictor yep. i completely agree. in some situation it may be necessary, but those situations would arise in XPlane, and only would happy during traffic in realworld.
Hey man, you've got talent. But one tip for you to improve your IFR skills: this 3,000 ft is not a randon number, each airport has its own procedure of interecept the ILS, so I strongly recomend you to loof for this charts and learn how to use them. There you can find frequencys, altitudes and headings. Other thing.. Usually, on an ILS CAT I the autopilot is switched of at 500 ft AGL, but this can vary a bit. If you need anything, just ask!
Thanks a lot! I am a total noob in X-Plane and managed to land with ILS.
One thing is that I can't understand. Sometimes the "Loc" button doesn't align the plane properly with the runway. Autopilot clearly takes over I can see that it does some kind of aligment (and light on the button also turns from orange to yellow), but in the end it is at a slight angle with runway. In this case the horizontal bar never appears and I can't press the "G/S" button.
Sorry, it was my own mistake. I forgot to switch source to "nav 1". It was on GPS and I had the airfield set as waypoint in the computer. Thats why G/S didn't activate but the plane was flying towards airfield
