@brooko20 have you ever seen him live? he never looks comfortable in front of an audience lol. not to mention that he isn't the at piano (or guitar for that matter)
This is my new theme song. And i totally dig the whole unified white thing. Its too bad i'm moving cause i'm probably going to have to take the goddamn greyhound to edmonton to see them.
I think everything just sounds better live, not because of the sound quality so much, it's just the feeling you get. You get the beautiful music and the lyrics, but you get to see them in their raw form. You get to kind of see the person's soul and unedited imperfections and. Stuff. Conor Oberst has plenty of those. And they're beautiful.
His voice and piano skills aren't as good as I thought they were (from listening to the CD). From this video, I'm led to believe he's not as good live as he is on his record! I love the song on the CD, though.
Once you watch enough performances of youtube you'll find these slight changes he makes to his songs in his live performances and almost wish he'll re-record it it that way.
But he does have his shakey moments- it's hard to tell on youtube however.

The bassist (simon joyner?) just completes this song.

@aperfectsonnet123 that's not Simon Joyner at all.

I love oberst and bright eyes collectively but he really didn't look comfortable behind that piano. Did anyone else pick up on that?

A choir and Lemaster
hiddeninromance 1 year ago
@andrewptob sorry no choir, I anticipated a choir, but it's Andy Lemaster (now it's overhead etc. also consistent producer of conor's)

Is that right?
My mistake then.

Mike Mogis really doesn't get enough credit. He puts such beautiful background to all these songs.

so true..he does all the arrangements and production. bright eyes would be 100% different without him
bvsskate 2 years ago 2
omg i know! he is so amazing. conor does give him alot of credit, they're just an amazing pair!

He reminds me of john lennon with the long hair and the white suits. ive loved bright eyes since 2002. Best singer songwriter of his generation.

When I heard this live it was a much better performance I think... this is still beautiful though :) x

personally... the meaning is more important than the sound although it sounds wonderful to me... it just sounds real
mothwitchery 4 years ago 4
I agree. ^w^
Besides, if all singers sang and performed the same way, we wouldn't be subjected to Conor Oberst's poetic songs.

He sounds exactly the same as he does on the cd.

Shakey moments... as in the 'John Peel was shit' moment at Glastonbury. On the John Peel stage. Less that a year after Peel died...
That was just a completely dick move.
