  • Pearl jam why go philly

  • What a great song

  • Man, Andy Lemaster kicks ass.

  • The bassist (simon joyner?) just completes this song.

  • @aperfectsonnet123 that's not Simon Joyner at all.

  • haha this is nuts compared to mystic valley band and peoples key writing imo

  • I love oberst and bright eyes collectively but he really didn't look comfortable behind that piano. Did anyone else pick up on that?

  • @brooko20 have you ever seen him live? he never looks comfortable in front of an audience lol. not to mention that he isn't the at piano (or guitar for that matter)

  • Three drum kits+one stage=pure epicness

  • I like turtles.

  • chills

  • All your friends and sedatives mean well but make it worse

  • conor sounds a little intoxicated..

  • Who's doing the back-up vocals? Is that Walcott?

  • @andrewptob

    A choir and Lemaster

  • @andrewptob sorry no choir, I anticipated a choir, but it's Andy Lemaster (now it's overhead etc. also consistent producer of conor's)

  • @andrewptob its Andy Lemaster

  • awesome!! thanks so much for posting!

  • best band ever

  • ikr. elliott smith is great too though.

  • brilliant song and great live version

  • I love the pedal steel guy!

  • and "modestmousekateer" mike is playing a petal steel

  • Is that right?

    My mistake then.

  • Mike Mogis really doesn't get enough credit. He puts such beautiful background to all these songs.

  • so true..he does all the arrangements and production. bright eyes would be 100% different without him

  • omg i know! he is so amazing. conor does give him alot of credit, they're just an amazing pair!

  • if they don't do a farewell tour i don't know what i'll do

  • they are, this winter theyre releasing their final album under Bright Eyes, and im sure a tour will follow! its only right!

  • final?

    :(

  • this is beautiful!!! btw, i think his voice sounds like what bobby hill would sound like if he sang and was skinny lol and thats not a bad thing

  • Thanks for uploading. ^____^

Love it when Mike Mogis plays that instrument. Though I don't know what it's called.

  • Steel Lap Pedal

  • Thanks ^__^

  • No prob. It's pretty awesome. Look it up on wikipedia, along with the Theremin (a personal favourite)

  • Bright Eyes have been in Norway? not fair! I want them to come to Finland!!! :D

  • He reminds me of john lennon with the long hair and the white suits. ive loved bright eyes since 2002. Best singer songwriter of his generation.

  • I absolutely love this song.

And Mike Mogis, he's the coolest. XD

  • awesome! i saw myself :D

  • This is my new theme song. And i totally dig the whole unified white thing. Its too bad i'm moving cause i'm probably going to have to take the goddamn greyhound to edmonton to see them.

  • did u happen to catch the october 30th of 2007....at edmonton event centre, was a great show.

  • I think everything just sounds better live, not because of the sound quality so much, it's just the feeling you get. You get the beautiful music and the lyrics, but you get to see them in their raw form. You get to kind of see the person's soul and unedited imperfections and. Stuff. Conor Oberst has plenty of those. And they're beautiful.

  • well said and very true

  • Great song. One of my favorites from the album.

Is that Andy Lemaster on Bass?

  • me too! the pedal steel adds so much to the performance here.

  • yes that is andy lemaster

  • umm trust me. i've seen them live 3 times. he is much better live than on the album in my opinion

  • i saw them live before i really start listening to them, and i totally agree. amazing live performance

  • When I heard this live it was a much better performance I think... this is still beautiful though :) x

  • personally... the meaning is more important than the sound although it sounds wonderful to me... it just sounds real

  • I agree. ^w^

Besides, if all singers sang and performed the same way, we wouldn't be subjected to Conor Oberst's poetic songs.

  • He sounds exactly the same as he does on the cd.

  • His voice and piano skills aren't as good as I thought they were (from listening to the CD). From this video, I'm led to believe he's not as good live as he is on his record! I love the song on the CD, though.

  • Once you watch enough performances of youtube you'll find these slight changes he makes to his songs in his live performances and almost wish he'll re-record it it that way.

But he does have his shakey moments- it's hard to tell on youtube however.

  • Shakey moments... as in the 'John Peel was shit' moment at Glastonbury. On the John Peel stage. Less that a year after Peel died...

That was just a completely dick move.

  • haha. love how he pushes the piano away at the end.

    Great quality video too!

  • amazing. thanks so much for posting!

  • Great

  • thanks for posting this!
