AMC produced three Love-'Em-Or-Hate-'Em cars: the Gremlin, the Pacer, and the Matador Coupe. Even after all these years, people are still split right down the middle.
@NBZist AMC produced dealer introduction films from 1969 to at least 1973. Maybe more. I don't know, because they're freakin' rare. However, I have a choppy/splicy copy of the 1971 AMC intro film. It includes a segment on the '71 Hornet SC/360. It's the only factory footage of this car that I know of, and it's the only copy of this film that I know of. Someday, I'll find a way to share it with all of you.
Also the justification for this design was for a more aerodynamic car for NASCAR competition.... The old Matador coupe was quite literally nicknamed "Flying Brick" because it made an 80's Lincoln look like a Ferrari F40 for aerodynamics
Yes because AMC decided not to make another 3-box designed land yacht like the Big 3 was doing. Gotta love those square bland lines of the Diplomat and Nova.

I remember when these cars came out, they were ugly back then, and they still are today.

@TheEldweebo I think they look good when the godawful bumpers are removed.

My very first car was a 1974 Matador Coupe close to this one, mine was green and not the X model.
