  • Love this song! My cousin's band does a great cover if anyone's interested :) =yyX5Tm8-qc0

  • LOVE LOVE!!

  • radio stations don't play this song anymore where I live, I miss it.

  • Thanks Tom, I'm a free girl now!

  • excellent talent

  • Im still knocked out by Ferrone's playing. Amazing drummer.

  • Thanks, Tom Petty, for being an example, in a heartless society, of how to stay in the heart!

  • Hey baby

  • I wish somebody would post the studio recording version of this song, where Tom doesn't bungle half the lyrics...this is one of his best tunes.

  • Sure, Howie wasn't in the best shape, but you gotta admit, he kills it, in this tune!!! ......RIP H.E.

  • My new favorite song!!!

  • 2nd verse sounds like:

I remember him touching your butt.

I remember him touching it tough.

Oh, baby you kept your mouth shut.

    Nobody knew what you knew.

Scores an A on the 'saved-the-verse' meter.

  • one of the best songs off of the BEST ALBUM EVER

  • @NaturalTvventy Echo is definitely a masterpiece.

  • 2:21 is where it gets sublime

  • Man alive. Sensational.

  • hes sooo baked in this show

  • the girl at :50 is hot as fuck, i like the way shes smilin...

  • for guitar players:

    A G D chords

  • right on dude...its that easy

  • man, three chords but that bass line makes it sound awesome

  • i thought the same man

  • tom pettys lyrics are always so amazing but these have always been so special to me...some of his best ever..

  • Yeaaa BAAAAAAAA-BY! You a free girl now!

  • Is this song forgotten? Only version on youtube and less than 3000 hits? This has got to be my favorite Petty tune. Wasn't even at this show and have a story surrounding it. It's about driving 80mph down ghetto side streets during AM rush hour from the UCity Loop in StL north and west north and west to get some folks on the plane out to Frisco for this. Glad I could help if you're out there! Watching the end. . Encore or set closer, eh? Hope I didn't bore no one, just figured I'd share.

  • what a rough year for the band. Tom gets divorced and they have to watch Howie slowly slip away. He was looking bad at this point. But, I would've given anything to have seen those fillmore shows. I think they played every unreleased favorite of mine that they'll never play live again.

  • thanks for posting it !!!!grewate tune of a godlike musician.^^

  • Tom really butchered the lyrics here, covered up nicely though. Seems like he rarely plays Echo songs live anymore. I hope he plays 1 or 2 for the summer tour. This one and Swingin would be great.

  • How do you know he didn't change the song on purpose? He's done it before...

  • Yeah, second verse he sang the 2nd line 1st, then just tried to salvage it from there. That's not always so easy to do! I know from experience, once you get off track, you just try to make sure you keep singing something!

  • He did great, was funny. Petty would be the first to laugh at himself, either way.

  • Might'a been done on purpose.... maybe not... he had to repeat the 'touching your butt' only all gargled, but the 'no body knew what you knew' doesn't seem improvised. hard to say!

  • Poor Howie. He's barely keepimg it together here.

  • Tom is the best of the best.

    Mike too.

  • You forgot about Ben.

  • Very true!

    Can't leave out Benmont.

    Here's to Mr. Tench!
