Yes they prohibited all modern handguns but before that ownership was strictly conditional ie.need a licence, it's nothing like the US citzen's unconditional right to bear arms. You said "violence" overall-which has declined, not specifically murder which has obviously gone up but would have dropped without the July 7 2005 bombings.

US culture has nothing to do with such things, this idiot that killed Rhys is white, working-class and very much homegrown. People always find ways to kill eachother regardless of weapons, things were much worse here in the 70/80s. It's nothing to do with colour or "gun culture", it's poverty and disillusionment. We have a problem with criminals with guns and a lax court system, not guns. Even if all guns just disappeared we'd still have a problem with criminals with knives and baseball bats killing people.
