Fucking love this movie. I saw it when I was really young, 7 or 8 I think. My friend's dad had a ton of Heavy Metal magazines and the movie, which we would steal and watch. The magazines were fucking weird too. There was one that I remember had a woman tied down to a table being fucked by a bunch of tiny little green aliens. Pretty wild stuff to find when you're that young.

this is one of my favorite movies of all time

up there with the 5th element, shawshank redemption, they live, pulp fiction and the matrix

I love all the different visual styles, the total immersion and how real the characters feel

I like how each character has or appear to have a very rich backstory

like the one-eyed thug in the future new york scene

future new york, the immense space station, the ship by the stoner and Den's world all appear to be distilled from a much larger story

Speaking of which it did influenced Fifth Element you know and was one of the influences to James cameron's Avatar since JC is a fan of HM the movie and comic magazine as he did borrowed some elements of both for his movie. If you like this one i recommend Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Twilight Zone The Movie, Ninja Scroll, Wicked City, Wizards, LightYears, Creepshow, Fire and Ice, Willow, Fantastic Planet, , Urotsukidoji Legend of the Overfiend, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind etc.

Do you agree with me that Fifth Element and Avatar are the closet movies of being like HM in live-action? Luc Besson and James Cameron are huge fans of this movie and the magazine comics. Cameron did combined Last of the Mohicans and HM in one movie as there are similarites to Den and Taarna in his movie and HM Magazine influences such as the landscape, exotic strange world, half-naked alien chicks, warriors, weird creatures, storyline and that kind of thing

Who else saw this on TBS in the early 90's? i did in 93 when i was 12 with Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival, American Pop, Hey Good Looking and Rock and Rule. I loved them and had to own them except AP and HM weren't on video at that time until 1996 and 1998 as i bought them, i even taped Rock and Rule and Hey Good Looking from one of my video stores. I also owned VHD and RC.

Well there's a new HM movie coming soon with 10 stories this time and different animation in each one like 2D handdrawn, CGI, Clay, Stop Motion, flash and anime in each one. Director's like James Cameron, Guillermo Del Toro, David Fincher, Zack Snyder, Gore Verbinski, Jack Black and Rob Zombie will helm it! they should hire the creator of Ninja Scroll/Wicked City Yoshiatka Kawajari or Katushiro Otomo of Akira fame for a segment as well as Will Vinton for claymation.

This song is cool , But I really think Don Felder's song Heavy Metal -Takin' a Ride would have fit this slot better and vice versa This song played during the B17 scene . But it is only an opinion .
