My pit was abandoned on an LA Freeway- and she is the joy of our lives (along with her little runty 21 pound chihuahua mix brother, who thinks he rules her- and she lets him!). These are some of the most intelligent, sweetest dogs on the face of the Earth and I'll never have another dog except a Pit, not only because they're wonderful but because they NEED homes and people to see past the discrimination!
My pitbull (a former street dog, I live in Mexico) came to me at five months with five cigarette holes burned into each of his little ears. Gangrene set in, and the poor little guy had to have a bilateral earectomy. He is the BEST and the very SMARTEST dog I've ever had! He takes care of the cats, won't let them fight or be bad. He's not bitter or traumatized. He is noble and grateful, and I love him with all my heartt!
At 2:08 one of the most brave faces ever it says "this is my main girl right here I'd like to see you try to fuck with this kid " that's why they're amazing because they will do anything for the ones they love it's also their own worst enemy sometimes because sadly some of their owners have terrible acts to request of them :,(
To continue on with my post. It is all about responsible dog ownership. You need to know the breed of dog you have & what their needs are. You need to be knowledgeable, caring and train your dog properly and expose it to many situations and people and not allow it to run loose and address any aggression issues right away with a professional to stop the aggression. It will never be the dog's fault. It is about responsible, caring and knowledgeable dog ownership and commitment to these dogs.
You can't blame the pit bull for its bad reputation. You have to blame humans. These dogs, the victims of dog fighting and other abuse and irresponsible and reckless dog owners deserve the benefit of the doubt. German Shepherds, Dobermans, Rottweilers and Bulldogs, etc. all are powerful breeds created to protect and attack. Yet they all can be great pets in the right knowledgeable and caring hands. Pit bulls deserve to be pets and they can be in the right hands.
Sorry for wordy comments.. Looks like they got cut off a bit. I liked most of the video... But they should have addressed that proper training can greatly limit the dangers of having such a powerful dog. The video completely disregarded that reality.
Let's face it, there is no sign/badge identifying if a dog is good or bad.(except caregiver dogs) So people should be cautious with every animal.
Most are less cautious with smaller dogs because they know they or the owner can manage the possible threat. Sadly some are ignorant about protecting their toddlers and babies from small dogs. And accidents happen with beloved loving pets. How about that magician being attacked by his pet tiger. He knew the risk, took it, and did not blame the an
When comparing a chihuahuas bite to a pit bull, it is like being shot with a bebe gun versus a .45 magnum. Or controlling a kitten versus a mountain lion. If an animal for some reason acts out of the norm because of fear, the small animal is easier to control. Even a pit bull or any large dog who wants to be friendly by running into a child can cause serious damage.
I agree there is a bias, every decade has one. But it is basically based on what is the most popular breed for those that wan
Pitbulls were bread to be the meanest, and most vicsous, and with big, powerful jaws. They were bread this way to fight other dogs to death in a match held in 'pits'. That is where they got their name. If a person gets a pitbull without the bad genes, then they are pretty lucky. This would account for the 90% of dogs given up to the county dog pounds being pitbulls.
It was actually two dogs that attacked two people that were walking together. It wasn't in the news, I knew of it because it was expained to me at the dentist office.
@mikelane2 That's too bad for the people. Dogs shouldn't be allowed to run loose. Dogs are individuals. Can't blame a whole group of dogs for one incident. Any dog can bite and it will always be the owner's fault and they should be held accountable. We all need to try our best to be responsible dog owners and if there are any aggression issues with our dogs they need to be addressed right away with a professional and stopped. But definitely do not let your dog run loose.
You can't blame a whole group of dogs for what dog fighters and irresponsible dog owners and the biased media do to these dogs called the pit bulls. In the past it was the Doberman, the Rottweiler, and the German Shepherd that were vilified mainly because the media wanted to get ratings by stirring up people for no good reason. Let's create unwarranted hysteria where there is none. ANY dog can bite and it's all about responsible dog ownership and stopping dog fighting and animal abuse.
The headlines in the paper say ...Mauled by Dog attact, or ...Killed by Dog Attack. When I read into the articles, over 90% of the dogs turn out to be Pitbulls. Also, on the county animal shelter pet adoption pages in the local newspaper, 95% of the dogs are
Not all pits are bad. I had a roommate several years ago that had a half breed pitbull that was a good dog. I had another roommate that owned a pitbull, but he had to put it down when it tried to attack his 2 year old kid.
I see at least about 90% of reported dog attacks are pitbulls. and less than 10% other breeds. The example I gave below is just the most recent one that I personally know about, since the victim was one of the employees of the dentist office I go to. Since then, I was taking a morning walk and spotted an individual walking his pitbutl. I stayed on my side of the street. A couple weeks later, that same pitbull mauled some child on the same sidewalk I was on two weeks prior.
Tell this to the 2 victims of a viscious attack by 2 pitbulls. One victim worked at my dentist's office, she is permanently disabled and disfigured, almost got mauled to death. If it wasn't for a neighbor who used a shovel to get the pitbull off of her, she would have died. She will never be able to work again, and is confined to her home like a nursing home resident as a result of the attack. All the victims were doing were taking a walk in their neighborhood.
@mikelane2 Dogs are individuals. It could easily have been another type of dog. Any dog can bite. It's about responsible ownership of any dog. Don't let your dogs run loose and if your dog shows any signs of aggression it needs to be addressed right away by a professional to stop it. Any dog owner (including dog fighters and irresponsible dog owners) need to be held accountable if a dog bites. It certainly isn't the dog's fault. The owner needs to be held accountable.
@mikelane2 The question is, how many dog attacks involve other breeds, but get little or no media attention? The media are all over a sad story involving "pit bulls" but relegate the near-fatal attack by a golden retriever (or any other breed) to page 9 & mention nothing about it on the evening news. Then there's the issue of responsible dog ownership: Why were those dogs running loose to begin with? If they'd been properly socialized & cared for, they wouldn't have attacked anyone.
@mikelane2 As jec933 said it is about responsible ownership. You can't let your dog, any dog, roam the streets. The dog that attacked the woman from your dentist office could have very well been a dog trained to attack. And the media does not report attacks on people from other dogs, only the pitbulls. Any dog can bite. It is all about the owner.

There are times Im outside with my little chihuahua talking to my friend with a pittbull and people will avoid his dog and instantly reach out to my dog who almost always snaps at them U cant judge animals..U just have to love them and not mistreat them and not assume one breed is more dangerous than others...
I am fighting to adopt a pit bull mix at a shelter in WA that has so many restrictions on adopting out pit bulls that they are making it almost impossible for him to find a home. He has been in this shleter for 7 months with several people tryng to adopt him. 6 foot fence rule, no other male dog in the household rule, no young children as he is fearful and very shy, he arrived with 2 other litter mates from a drug house with no social contact the first 2 months of his life. Can you help Wally?
I adopted a pit bull mix a few months ago, and I could never imagine my life without her now. She is the SWEETEST, most loveable, kind, funny, quirky, dog ever! She is nicer than both my blue tick hound mix and my little collie terrier mix. She loves everyone and every dog she meets.
One of the most endeering traits of the breed is there intense need to please their owners. Some use this trait to teach them bad things. Not the dog's fault. People suck sometimes. These dogs are great!
They're a wonderful breed. Long story but I'll try to cut to the chase. My brother had a pitbull from the time she was a puppy. Sweet, playful, good with the cats and people. Raised with love. He gets divorced. Nikki goes with my ex SIL to North Carolina where she does fine. 2 years go by, her father who the dog knows gets his face ripped open. Why? He bent over the dog and she bit him. NOT HER FAULT. Felt threatened I think. They put her to sleep! Very sad. NOT what I would have done.
For decades Pits were America's Favorite Dog because of their classic beauty, disposition and loyalty. It wasn't until lowlife gang bangers and other assorted human trash got a hold of a few of them and started fighting and otherwise abusing them and over breeding them that they got their bad rap. I say punish the PEOPLE, not the breed. Non-human animals are inherently good and kind beings. Its human beings who can TOTALLY SUCK and who mess up the psyche of animals.
I never had any problems with pit bulls before I lived with two of them. I liked them the same as any other dog...a lot. But then the two angels I lived with stole my heart and now I don't ever want to own another breed. I have yet to meet another breed as accomplished at cuddling as the pitties are! I don't ever, ever want to live without one in my life. I'm cuddling one right now!
So happy to see this video! Pitbulls, and Bullie breeds have a bad rap and they can truly be the best dogs! I have had three so far. My current male loves kids and kids love him. He rolls over on his back for them to rub his belly. He cuddles and thinks he's a lap dog. It is so wrong to blame the breed! They are very very much misunderstood!!!!
What a beautiful video, so true... never condemn anything until you know the truth and live it. I know countless wonderful Pitties. They to me are the most beautiful they have incredible coloring and markings and a special personality to go with it. Thank you Best Friends they are the best advocates for this misunderstood breed.
I had a pit and she was not the right one for me and I was not the right one for her but I love them and would like to live with another someday. I stand up for them whenever I hear disparaging remarks. Mine was dangerously affectionate and people were always surprised when I said she was a pit. I've always said 'you're never going to hear about a pit bull licking a 3 year old in the newspaper' meaning you only hear the bad stuff. It's hard to beat the smile on a pit.
Sadly we just recently had an elderly lady attacked by a pack of dogs. The owners took off with the dogs before they could be properly identified. The article went from stating that the breed was unknown but looked like Pit to stating multiple times that they were Pit Bulls. This is an incident of Pits taking the rap for something when these dogs may not have been Pits at all. I love my two, I am glad I am not alone in standing up for this breed, so everyone knows how great they truly are.
Thank you so much for doing this. These poor dogs really need the media to treat them right and for dog fighting rings to be busted and irresponsible dog owners of these dogs to be held accountable and educating the next generation of kids that all this bad publicity of these dogs was because of the biased media wanting to get ratings, dog fighting rings and irresponsible dog owners. It's time these dogs get their reputation restored and are allowed to just be normal domesticated dogs/pets.
