  • i actually learned the step the first guy was doing as part of a stepdance only a few weeks back :/ in my opinion its fine for there to be less of a distinction sometimes- some of my favourite stepdance steps are directly based on sean nos ideas, so long as sean nos as a seperate style is still kept going

  • Just love the two characters at the end - they know how to have a bit of fun!!

  • what a musician, perfectly played for steps

  • splendid footwork

  • Funny, i thought the women where stepdancing too.

I think the distinction should be there.

I f one mixes styles (wich i for one think is ok) one should say so (dancing styles names are confusing enough as it is).

  • Sean nós... unreal

  • Funny how all the styles are thrown under the same hat nowadays.

The two women are stepdancing .(Yes those are old steps) but they arestepdancing none the less.

Things are changing and styles are merging ...perhaps...Hummmm...

The distinction between traditional stepdancing and Sean Nos is not recognised any more.

perhaps that is a good thing?

  • How very observant of you. That's an extremely interesting thought....

  • That's a bad thing.

It'll be championing what Tony MacMahon said, that modernisation is steamrolling over tradition.

  • Sean nos to Old Style to Modern is a big grey area but I wouldn't consider what the women are doing to be sean nos even remotely. But it's a ceili and everyone looked great so most people probably don't care what the label is. Bothers me tho that when I am looking for real sean nos and i end up with people doing modern in street clothes. Looks great but usually not what I am interested in.

  • ....... BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry but the guy at 1:45 really does look like a rag doll dancin! I know I would look horrible, that's why I confine my dancing to -home alone, bedroom and bathroom- I meant no offense to the man dancin.

  • colm carter (ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis) was teaching this dancing as well as Irish language and songs in mayo 60 years ago

  • whats wrong with the man at 1.40?

  • @Natz1Jam2

He's from the West Coast....much more relaxed than those stiff Dubs.

  • Very good, but the guy at 1:45 looked like a dancing rag doll :P. I think I'm just used to the Irish dance style of straight back, straight arms, and straight legs.

  • You just have to hand it to Matt Cunningham ! He is the king of set dance music. Just sits down and plays music so alive ! and yet he is so composed !

  • Love this! I'm just starting to lean sean nos and I can't get enough.

  • Claire, this was lovely to watch. Is it in Killarney ? You have put some absolutely brilliant videos on here ! Thanks again. Sue

  • There are not near enough sean nos dancers in the country. There are loads of dancers out there who can do it no problem but they may be too shy to dance in front of an audience.Thank god it is still alive this is the stuff dreams were made of.Thanks again bannerman for the post.
