A joy to behold! This is my favourite Emerson piece and sounds brilliant with just the Hammond. Technically far beyond my capabilities, I'm sure it's as enjoyable to play as it is to listen to. Rachel approaches the piece with the right attitude and the celebration at the end is really moving. Wonderful.
Just Blown Away! Did her parents play music? Were they professionals? A book about her would be fascinating reading. I just can't believe she can play all of these complex chords and rhythm patterns and then adjust the settings on the Hammond, all of this at the same time and all by ear and doesn't see what she is doing. She goes Far Beyond AMAZING!
Who are the two guys around her? Looks like they were trying to distract her. When someone is playing an instrument it is only common courtesy to remain quiet and motionless throughout the performance, otherwise leave.
It's opne thing to just play the notes, it's another thing altogether to show your physical connection and involvement with the music, which is why I like your playing so much. Kisses for this Rachel!
I grew up with ELP in the 70s, my favorite band for many years, and still one of my most favorite today. Even if Rachel were a sighted person I would be in awe at her talent and feeling, but that she performs so amazingly well despite her challenges makes her my new heroine. Rachel you truly are a *gift* to all of us who love music.
ok I have a real problem of the camera not being still and the talking in the background, when someone is performing a complex peice keep your fucking mouth shut.
Great job Rachel! I saw ELP in 1973 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. The tour was the release of this album. They had a quadrophonic sound system and I still remember the sound "swirling" around the arena faster and faster as Keith played. Thanks for bringing back those memories when I was a 20 year old rocker with hair past my shoulders.
@rockanthemguy I was at that show, and many others before and since. (My first exposure to ELP was running the stage left followspot (Keith's) at Stanley Park Stadium in the summer of '71 during the Lucky Man tour.) Rachel's gift is truly extraordinary - she invokes the same joy I felt watching the guys live. And speaking as the only ELP fanatic in my crowd for four decades now, I think it's just wonderful that Rachel is supported by a loving family that clearly gets this stuff.
Happy 1-year anniversary of this recording at "The House of Proggy Keyboards," a totally remarkable day I'll never forget. Sadly my singing has gotten no better--I hope you are having a great time making music...always be your super-brilliant self. Happy Holidays, birthday, new year, and always have fun!!
I think that evry one brings a facultu, she es a great pianist, , maybe yo are good unthe numbers or wrintting,I am s singer of classical music and rock, and it´s really beautiful. U saw a video where rache is playin tarcus and i remember, that song has lyric and i could learn and sing. i wish icould find people who´helpus to develope ur talents un my country, nicaragua
I regard my sister as pretty good at keyboard, but she would never be able to play like Rachel in a million years, & she can see just fine. Best organ covers of anything I've ever seen! Keep up the awesome work!
This is exactly the way this Hammond C3 should be played! It is a "Church" organ and your way of improvising is in the tradition of modern pipe-organ improvisation. It is if the organ asked you to play like this;-) Thanks for doing that;-)
Rachel, finally on the Hammond! You remain the only ELP cover artist I like to watch on you tube...love this one especially. Once again, you get it...and nail it!
Rachel, this is my second time in two days listening to you play this piece and I'm in awe of your talent. I saw ELP in concert three times in the early 70's and Karn Evil 9 is one of my all time favorite songs. Just keep up the good work and if you start any auditions for your tour band, please let us know. (I'm kinda kidding and kinda not.) ;)
107 to zero ! Where's all the dislkers hanging out? Gotta get yourself a guitarist with the last initial (is that an oxy?) 'M' and a percussionist with a 'Q' and start touring. Keith's permission is a given for someone showing your dedication.
First time in my life I actually felt a "lump in my throat!" In the first minute, seriously, I teared up! Incredible! I have to say, that I had noticed the wonderful low growl that only a Hammond with a Leslie can create (unusual that sound is captured) - Very nice pedal work - it didn't surprise me that the little glass item fell off! (Is that TWO speakers I see? Are they both active during this recording?) I LOVED the way Rachel just pushed through the calamity. Thank You for this.
will you tell your daughter that i love to hear her play is it possible for her to get in some (funded) recordsession to do her interpretations of elp like this i would love to hear i on cd ,she could well play with two other musicians in an elp tribute ban will you tell her, if il ived nearby i would ask her if i may sit in and listen to one of her sessions.
I could slap that guy who keeps jabbering at her while she's playing. Shut up! Dang, what concentration, not a break or a moment's pause when that snowglobe or whatever fell right across the keyboard. Phenomenal. Yasi plays Vai, and now Rachel plays Emerson. What a team they'd make. Now if they could only find a grrrl who could beat like Neil Peart, they would be the band for the 21st century. Yeah, man!
You played it so well. you dont undertsand how impressed i am with this performance of this awesome song. someone of your age playing music that not many of my friends are interested in and so well. its awesome. keep it up. prog rock lives.
I've been watching these incredible videos of Rachel -- very, very impressive, both for the sheer virtuosity and musicality, and for the evident powers of concentration. Keep 'em coming, Rachel!!!
14 minutes of tears, joy, remembering e singing with you! Thank you for playing the story of a 13-years-old italian piano boy and his first wonder LP!! I would like to be there only to play and sing "my" ELP songs with you!!!
OK, now I'll take up something serious for the rest of my life......like underwater basket-weaving. You MUST be kidding me !!!!!! Why have I wasted all of these years "trying" to play the Hammond when there is talent like Rachel out there ?!?!?!?!?!? I am truly in awe of that performance, flying tchotchkes and all !!!!! Kudos !! Peace:-)
I came, I saw the show, I was mightily impression with this impression. Just hope the burglary doesnt dismay too much and hope the buggers get their hands cut off.
I thoroughly enjoy Rachel's rendition and her own impression of the First Impression. I come back to watch and listen. Her home was burglarized recently.
Still the champion of the C3, and this video remains the best version of KE9 1st Impression Complete...anywhere on the internet. Unless Emo has a tape in a box at the back of his closet, undiscovered, this one is the best version anywhere, period. If you ever revisited this piece, you do all the singing :)
Wow!!!! What can this young lady NOT do? I don't believe there is anything she can't accomplish. Her other videos show her playing a flute beautifully. Simply amazing. Count me in as a new big fan. Thank you Rachel. Please continue to show us more. I would also like to tip my hat to her parents for exposing her to my generations music. Looks like the world of progressive rock is in great hands!!
I love how you can sense her confidence really kick in around the 10:00 mark and she just attacks that solo, and even improvises around what Emo played. I've watched this 4 times and am simply blown away every time.
Rachel, so very glad to see you play the Hammond and of course one of Emerson's greatest workouts on the organ. I loved it and am so very glad to see you doing so well. God Bless You and your family ALWAYS!
A ha! A C3! That must have been fun for her. I see she sensed the key click and feel of that Hammond. She was playing much more aggressively. To get that sound. I'm blown away by the fact she instinctively used the lowest three drawbaws pulled which what Keith does to get his sound. Awesome! Her excitement at the end was overwhelming ... I know the feeling!!!
I have been thoroughly amazed , amused, freaked out and fascinated..Jesus Christ , Mary and Joseph and all the blessed saints in Heaven and Good God Almighty...;brilliant..frigging A 1, top ranking upload. This one will go down in history as a YouTube Classic. Thankyou Rachel and thanks to your Mum n'all !!
Rachel, you doing great! I doubt if Emerson himself could play like that right now
