Thank you for reality checking some people, piercing is actually a serious decision and shouldn't just be done on a whim, people should make sure you know who you're dealing with and before they can even mark the spot look at the supplies and make sure they're clean, of the piercer is honest they'll understand some skepticism and will gladly let you do a once over of their equipment
I love how honest you are about your opinions. However, did you ever consider the fact that maybe some people just don't care about what happens to them? This girl you were talking about was obviously an idiot, and just did it to be "cool". But I've pierced my own lip before, I knew the risks. I simply didn't care. I wasn't worried about what it would do to me or if I'd hit a vein. I took it out a couple months later, then got it repierced professionally, but still.
When I saw this I clicked because I was disgusted at the idea of a Youtube tutorial on how to do something as dangerous as piercing yourself (I have seen them on here before! I cringe every time.) but was thoroughly pleased to see it was actually a person with the same view on self piercing as me.
I am so lucky that I am healthy. When I was much younger I didn't educate my self on piercings and gave my self many piercings with a sewing needle.. I would never do something like that these days. Piercings are a big thing now, I have a few my self, but people really need to know this information before the decide to get a piercing done. And no you are not a bitch, you are speaking the truth.

I've had my ears pierced by professionals twice, both times they were infected and I had to take them out (and this was while I was taking very good care of them). But now I do my piercings myself at home with the proper equipment and I have yet to encounter any problems. Disposable sterilized needles/jewelry can be bought cheaply online. Anything else can be purchased from most stores.
Getting pierced in a car just sounds stupid. It doesn't sound like she takes care of herself.

If people can catch infections in a SHOP then it's more likely to happen if you do it yourself or in a bloody car :/ Like now when you go to get a piercing they make you sign a form saying that your not under the influence or have no heart conditions and if you have any health issues that you have consulted a doctor. When I was 13 year's old, I got my top ear piercing professionally and after 3 months I changed it, and It was weeping and blood was pouring out of it every time I took it out, I thought it was natural but then when I put my ring threw the hole it turned out to have a huge lump on the back of my ear so i took it out and waited for it to go down then I got it re-pierced and the same thing happened everytime i take it out or put a new earring in it bleeds is that normal or not?

Thank you! I like to watch self piercings on YouTube sometimes to remind myself why I don't do that anymore. When I was fourteen I scarred my belly button up and gave myself keyloids on my ears which I need to see a dermatologist for before I can pierce them again. I did extensive research before every one but a good piercing studio will always have better sanitary conditions than someone's house. Period. Even tribal tattoos and piercings were done by the pros of the time.

Mined you I didn't do it with a needle, I did it with a earring. It turned bright red and got infected. It throbbed, but I refused to take it out. Good job. Bravo! I had my friend do my nose, and his technique was really good. He mounted the sterilised needle on a cork, the eye-of-the-needle obvioiusly inserted in the cork, the sharp end sterilised. The cork acts as a handle for accuracy and required pressure. Place a marker point on the place you want it. You can use ice to numb the place, but when I had mine done it was damn near painless. Swab the area before and after, wear gloves, sterilise the ring, push through. Swab, and presto!
The information you gave is helpful and hopefully will make those who are unaware of the dangers of piercings themselves realize that they should take precaution. And I don't think you were/are a bitch whatsoever, she was just being ignorant, as most teenage girls are.

This is so true. I am a professional body piercer and I get people in my shop all the time bragging about all the piercings they have done on themselves and their friends. And most were done with safety pins. I just want to reach across the counter and slap them.

I pierced my cartilage by myself, but luckily nothing went wrong. I did it at my house with a sterilized needle. Its healing. I'm probably going to sound like a hypocrite, but I'm glad you told her it was dangerous. She should have looked up all the stories and what to do when you pierce you own body. I won't be doing any more piercings by my self, because one- it was painful, and two- I don't want to risk it again.

I have had the opportunity to shadow the chief of surgery at the hospital in the city I live in as a pre-med student. Even in the most sterile environment, infections will happen. Staphylococci (staph) lives on the surface of your skin and Streptococci (strep) in your mouth. Both are opportunistic bacteria and can cause Sepsis, TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome), necrosis, etc. I don't recommend piecing yourself, but NEVER think that "sterile" or someone is "certified" means you won't get an infection.
I've actually done all my piercings myself knowing fully well that I could injure myself, but as stupid as I am, I did it anyways. Only my ears, snakebites, & belly (& I did my friends nose)... luckily I or my friend have had no issues with them because I (&she) take very very very good care of them, but I have to agree with you on this one. Getting your nipples pierced in a basement or whatever is not the #1 best idea. It's stupider then even doing it yourself in the first place.

Some people have the experience and follow proper procedure when piercing themselves. I have done quite a few of my piercings. I have also gotten some that I wasn't comfortable doing myself at a shop. I've had more problems with the ones done by a "professional". I have sterilized needles and jewelry. I have clamps and gloves. I do extensive research. I do everything by the book.

If people can catch infections in a SHOP then it's more likely to happen if you do it yourself or in a bloody car :/ Like now when you go to get a piercing they make you sign a form saying that your not under the influence or have no heart conditions and if you have any health issues that you have consulted a doctor. When I was 13 year's old, I got my top ear piercing professionally and after 3 months I changed it, and It was weeping and blood was pouring out of it every time I took it out, I thought it was natural but then when I put my ring threw the hole it turned out to have a huge lump on the back of my ear so i took it out and waited for it to go down then I got it re-pierced and the same thing happened everytime i take it out or put a new earring in it bleeds is that normal or not?

Thank you! I like to watch self piercings on YouTube sometimes to remind myself why I don't do that anymore. When I was fourteen I scarred my belly button up and gave myself keyloids on my ears which I need to see a dermatologist for before I can pierce them again. I did extensive research before every one but a good piercing studio will always have better sanitary conditions than someone's house. Period. Even tribal tattoos and piercings were done by the pros of the time.

Mined you I didn't do it with a needle, I did it with a earring. It turned bright red and got infected. It throbbed, but I refused to take it out. Then it started pussing then I decided to be smart and take it out because I watches this video. I'm 15 now and to this day I'm absolutely terrified that I'm going to contract a disease. But, hey bet

Good job. Bravo! I had my friend do my nose, and his technique was really good. He mounted the sterilised needle on a cork, the eye-of-the-needle obvioiusly inserted in the cork, the sharp end sterilised. The cork acts as a handle for accuracy and required pressure. Place a marker point on the place you want it. You can use ice to numb the place, but when I had mine done it was damn near painless. Swab the area before and after, wear gloves, sterilise the ring, push through. Swab, and presto!

I pierced my cartilage by myself, but luckily nothing went wrong. I did it at my house with a sterilized needle. Its healing. I'm probably going to sound like a hypocrite, but I'm glad you told her it was dangerous. She should have looked up all the stories and what to do when you pierce you own body. I won't be doing any more piercings by my self, because one- it was painful, and two- I don't want to risk it again.

I honestly love how real you are in this.. Deff. not fake in anyway. I have my tongue pierced(by a profecional of course) and thankfully no infections. Although I didn gauge my ears myself which did get infected, I also pierced my septum but took it out. I didn'nt eveknow that you could literally die. I thought people just said it to scare someone out of getting a piercing. But honestly I love this and you(:

I have had the opportunity to shadow the chief of surgery at the hospital in the city I live in as a pre-med student. Even in the most sterile environment, infections will happen. Staphylococci (staph) lives on the surface of your skin and Streptococci (strep) in your mouth. Both are opportunistic bacteria and can cause Sepsis, TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome), necrosis, etc. I don't recommend piecing yourself, but NEVER think that "sterile" or someone is "certified" means you won't get an infection.

I've actually done all my piercings myself knowing fully well that I could injure myself, but as stupid as I am, I did it anyways. Only my ears, snakebites, & belly (& I did my friends nose)... luckily I or my friend have had no issues with them because I (&she) take very very very good care of them, but I have to agree with you on this one. Getting your nipples pierced in a basement or whatever is not the #1 best idea. It's stupider then even doing it yourself in the first place.

Yeah, she seems like an idiot. Not ALL people who do their piercings themselves should be looked down upon though. Some people have the experience and follow proper procedure when piercing themselves. I have done quite a few of my piercings. I have also gotten some that I wasn't comfortable doing myself at a shop. I've had more problems with the ones done by a "professional". I have sterilized needles and jewelry. I have clamps and gloves. I do extensive research. I do everything by the book.
