In MHO this is show tango with acrobatic moves and well executed. You don't see people doing this in a social milonga. It is separate from Nuevo, which is separate from salon tango. Nuevo is usually danced in a separate room in the US because of its more elaborate, expansive movements, and creative interpretation of the music. .That is not to say that salon tango is not as creative, but it is just more well contained in its movements.

@Mladenac What the two couples you suggest we see do is neither show nor social AT. Choreographed practiced to death boredom to watch in comparison to these guys! Social AT is when someone you may've never seen in your life caught your attention and you invite her to dance. She may not speak the same language, she may be from a different culture but, then you start this wonderful seduction game between the two! For the 3 min a tango lasts you go to heights and back & feel as one w/each other!

I've been dancing AT for 2 yrs. And it happened to me what you are talking about.

Every person dances differently and it happens depending on a day. It may be that some elements they do can be done only because they are rehearsed but a lot of stuff can be danced socially i.e. not dangerous to others and in sync with the music played on a milonga. tango last for the tanda that is usually 10-12 minutes. :D

@Mladenac A lot of the elements in this video may be done in milongas otherwise this could not be recognize as tango at all. After every tango in a tanda there's a pause you chat for a while and go back to other 3 min. People like you're talking about just dance w/each other all the time and nobody else (not that I care much to dance w/any of them, by no means, there are many more interesting people to dance with in a milonga than them), that is NOT SOCIAL AT by no stretch of the imagination...

After every tanda there is cortina when partners are changed or not and new tanda with different music is played. Some performers don't dance with others, some do at the milonga. I've never heard "Tanguera " at milonga and I probably never will.

@Mladenac I know how milongas go, no need to explain! You, yourself distinguish between performers and the rest, so then performers are not much of social tango dancers, exactly my point! Tanguera yes, it is a tango for shows, so what's your point? They ARE dancing show tango here, nobody challenged that! I never said anything about beauty, I enjoy everything too, you were the one putting down these fine dancers, not me! I just thought they're much better performers than those you suggested!

@Mladenac I know who's who, I've seen all of them live! I was referring to achievements, being the children of anybody does not good show tango dancers make! So far, in comparison to Miriam and Leonardo they don't exist! Wining salon tango championships or coming in second place does not good show tango dancers make either! Besides, we never argue about Pablo and Noelia!Naveira and Salas are many leagues above the unpresentable ball of fat, Chicho. There is no tango nuevo, it's all tango!

@Mladenac Last I heard, salon tango competition does not allow raising feet above partners' knee level which renders most of the few new steps that Naveira & Salas developed not salon style tango! So when in a milonga you see these idiots trying these steps they are not doing social AT!

@Mladenac On your "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" I think there are beauties more universal than others, the Mona Lisa, an example. I feel this is the case in our comparison of dancing styles, I feel there is no doubt that if we had replaced Miriam and Leonardo for any of those you are directing people to go see, they would have not done half as well as Miriam and Leonardo did. I don't think they'd even show them on US National TV ! And I will probably never see the others there!

That Chicho sucks is an understatement, he's not even presentable to be shown around, a ball of fat with legs that does not have any grace at all! Please no comparison! You think THAT is social AT or anything tango? Get real!!!

@Mladenac There are two acrobatic moves in the whole Tanguera danced here: the move he lifts her up on one shoulder and the finale! The rest is all regular very well executed show tango that can be seen in any tango stage show travelling around the World today and from the past like Tango Argentino, Forever Tango, Tango X 2 etc., etc.... But if you live in Argentina or Angola you've never seen any of those and it just dawned on you! It is show tango whether you like it or not, it's dancing!

@Mladenac Further, in the Tanguera by Bruno and Mariangeles they do a similar move of lifting the woman up on one shoulder except she sits on his shoulder but, the technique in that Tanguera is so far from this one so much so that Bruno and Mariangeles look like beginners in comparison to this Tanguera by Miriam and Leonardo... So I don't see how you reconcile your comments with reality!

@Mladenac If dancers like the ones you're proposing did a show, it would be very boring in comparison to a show done by dancers that do show tango, that's why it's called show tango! They would have to pay me to go see a show done by other than show tango dancers! There is a category Tango Escenario in the world championships, the other category Tango Salon from my point of view, is neither because, the people that dance there have been dancing w/their partners all the time, NOT SOCIALY!
