i am having people at my school sigh a paper saying stop killing all animals so far i have over 100 signitures also me and my freinds are rasing money for shelters it makes me feel relly nice it relly showes how much people relly care and 3 teacher sined also :)

Its so sad seeing dogs and cats not having a life they deserve. They are also important just like we are, but they are a little more important because they are animals. Its sad seeing these animals in the shelter because they have been in danger or been abused and left behind. People who are cruel to animals need to have a bigger heart with dogs and cats and etc.

Very nice video. I love the song you picked. Everyone associates shelter animals with tragedy. That these dogs and cats are abandoned or surrendered is indeed tragic, but (especially with No-Time-Limit shelters like us) we have to move past the sad feelings because the animals sense that. Shelters need to stand by their wards and focus on getting them into a happy Forever Home.

The dogfighting:rings contained with two dogs that misunderstood and only fear death.

The circus:Put in chains and in cages 90% of their lives.They perform only to fear butal punishment.

That is misconception that there are not enough homes for them, there are the shelter are not doing right by these animals 23 million people are currently looking for pets...there are plenty of homes for them...our whole shelter system is in a shambles!

Spay and neuter is not the only and definite solution. A responsible owner should be abble to take care of a intact bitch/dog. I have had many bitches, and any of them got pregnant. 3 of my current girls are rescues from the street, and I believe that is the best way you can help. Why "fix" something that is not broken. I would never make a completely healthy dog undergo an unnecessary surgery.

How can we as a nation known for our love of "our pets", treat them like we do. All owners are not just owners but carers and family for them. I lost my own dog last Oct. he was 18 1/2 years old and he had had enough, so I did what I thought was right, but it still hurts now. I look and see how some "owners" treat their pets and it makes my blood boil. If you can't or don't know how to look after your pet. Then it's easy. DON'T HAVE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree its horrible and unnecessary that so many animals die in shelters every year, but its not really the shelters fault. The shelters only have so much room and so may dogs (or other animals) they can take in at a time, after they're full they either have to start euthanising those that have been there the longest to make room for more....or they have to turn animals away. Some use foster homes but they also fill up quickly.

I only wish I had the space to take in more.

I know of someone who just recently put 2 cats on the road, just took them out and dumped them. House cats, never been outside...one of the cats had been living in the home for over 6 years.

The other? Over a year. Thankfully they were not declawed, at least they had a small (very small) ability to defend themselves. 'IF' they didn't starve or get ran over first. I can't even imagine the utter confusion and terror these animals must have felt when they were dumped.

It makes my heart heart when I think of them. I don't even know what they looked like, but I SEE them in my minds eye and I wonder...these people who did this?

A lot of shelter dogs are very young. People get a cute cuddly puppy and when it gets big they can't deal with it. They usually haven't bothered to get the dog obedience trained, spayed or neutered, or see that it had adequate exercise. Then they think the problem was the dog's fault.

I adopted a shelter kitten whose previous owners said she didn't use the litter box, then they admitted they only cleaned it out once a week (whew -poor kitty). I've never had any problems with her.

Something people should keep in mind is that shelter dogs aren't basket cases or second rate or in any way inferior to store bought or purebred dogs and don't believe that older dogs can't be trained, they're very trainable.

Dogs that are in circus acts and many on TV came from pounds and shelters. The trainers weren't looking for pure-bred or AKC papers, but ability and availability. Shelter dogs have that in spades. Pound pups are NOT second rate.
