I think its very cool how the beginning of the song kinda appearers out of the past on the TV screen with the scrambled signal and mild audio distortion to become crystal clear and in color! Blew my mind when I first saw it...The 60's lived again...if only for a little while.
Very entertaining. Love the GO GO girls ! Man, this really takes me back..When I first viewed this video a few days ago,, it was like a time machine that took me right back to the 60's and the Dick Clark show where I first saw the Raiders on BW TV. This was one of those songs that got inside your head and wouldn't leave! Thanks guys for the great song and memory's.
Thanks for the video. Oh what memrories - I was in grade school when this was out - boy did I have a crush on Mark Lindsay - that dark hair and ponytail! Of course the raider outfits didn't hurt either!
Wow this looks great for its age. We didnt have a color Tv back then, only a B&W. I Love the song ! Thanks for posting memories of my childhood. I remember this from the days of KFRC 610 am in San Francisco , me with my tiny AM transistor radio. They just dont make great rock n roll like this anymore. Thanks for posting this.
God this brings back memories. PR&R was my favorite group mid 60s, loved everything about them, superb talent, great music, happy, lively, cool revlolutionary period costumes, and kick ass anti-drug song to boot. Far outclassed the Beatles IMO. Should be in RRHOF. Mark Lindsay went on to a good solo career, but wish they stayed together.
How cool is this video? Is so great to look back and seeing this reminds me of how great these guys were and especially this song, one of my favorites. I was about 14 when this was aired and loved it then and still love seeing it again......... SK
I always liked the gritty flavor of this tune; but I never saw the group; and it's downright weird to see them prancing around in white tights and high boots
@blueyedboymrdeath I read that Dave Clark came up with the idea for the outfits.. all part of Americas answer to the British Invasion going on in music at the time..
This is my favorite song, and the go-go dancing makes it even better. Can you imagine the lead singer trying to concentrate with that beautiful dancer right in front of him?
@billysings Dick Clark was looking for a group to use on his upcoming pilot for a TV show to be called Where the Action Is. After being recomended by Clark's secretary, who had seen them perform in California, The Raiders were hired, along with Linda Scott, Steve Alaimo and Tommy Roe. The show premiered on ABC-TV on June 27, 1965.
@jeep5253 Hey, thanks so much! I watched that show so many times as a kid that I'm surprised I didn't even think of it as the pilot. Truthfully, I got a bit tired PRatR were on WtAI so often.
By the way, I recommend Paul Revere's show in Branson. Very entertaining.
¿What show is this?

@DhangoMicheli It's from a pilot called "Treasure of '67".

Actually that is not Goldie Hawn in front. She was just a dancer on the show.

@ohiomaiden Goldie was a gogo dancer before she broke through on the "Laugh In" show. I think that might be her.

@behryman I'm pretty sure it's not her. But you can see her dance on Hullabaloo (color clip) when The Raiders does "Ooh Poo Pah Doo".

Handful of hits, but Mark Lindsay's pretty damn good, in those days if you were a group, your lead singer needed to be, or you no get on el radio.

If any song would be their signature song it would be "Kicks". Still hits hard and rings true over four decades later.

This song was originally rejected by The Animals. Proof positive, that one band's trash...is another band's treasure!
