@citysurvivalist Neat video, i was planning on making individual food packs instead of just having my emergency food supply boxes. I was going to get $5 fuel tabs from botach and the cheap milsurp fold out stoves. for the house, i may stock up on propane tanks, hey bbq every night for wrol :-)
@Phatkid007 You're an idiot that does not need to survive if you don't know what bullion cubes are. Go to the supermarket and ask at the service counter, and get laughed at there too.
Awesome vid man. MREs give me bubble guts! TMI i know. I used my vac to shrink wrap my gear. It really helps with space saving. And for the people who said you needhot water for the noodles, you can purchase flameless ration heaters at most sporting goods stores. Just use a plastic bag to heat up the water.
Hey CitySurvivalist, Thanks for making this. I am an 2LT in the Civil Air Patrol and I used this as a project for the young cadets (under the age of 18) and they really enjoyed your video. They followed it to pack their own MREs for their 24 hour packs. I am trying to teach them a little prepper skills.
Thank you very much for sharing this info . With the way things are looking we all may need these skills to survive . I'm very disappointed in some of the selfish self serving comments you have gotten on here . It's sad that some don't realize how important it is that people stick together cause if we don't we will all surely hang separately whether they think so or not
Hey man, just wanted to say first off that I appreciated your video. I understand what you're doing -- most people don't have access to cases of MREs without paying an arm and a leg. That being said, did you total up the cost of the 'city MRE' you made? I'd be interested in seeing you doing a batch of 12 (to get bulk discount) and then telling me how much you paid for each. Also the advantage of the MRE is that it's all self contained. You'd need hot water for the Ramen/Cup of Noodles, etc.
My daughter is in the army and I guess they don't put in " sporks" any more. I was getting her a knife to spread some butter and she ignored me and just used the back of her spoon. Then explained why she didn't take the knife. So if you forget to pack a knife, at least you can use the back of your spoon to spread what ever you have. Thanks for the ideas. Now we can " plan" what and how we want our personal MRE's to be and should there be a lack of electricity or worse we will have food and wa
Who pays $80 a case for MREs, most I ever paid was $25, and if I buy 5 at a time I only pay $20 a pice, but still would be cheaper to make my own from strach
I never said i get them off the net, 2nd i live by an Army base and i go to Army surplus stores to buy my MREs and today i went and pick up 20 cases for $200, that 240 meals one i break them down take out all of the non food items i can fit 3 cases in one 50cal ammo can that i only pay 10 bucks for i pick up 7 of them today for $70, i currently have 100 ammo cans filled with 300 cases of MREs, and have over 1,000 cans of soup, lastly no gonna tell where i get this from bc i want it all for me
@Obamalovingbums Exactly you live in a very convenient place, not everyone does... there aren't any bases or surplus stores in my area or in many other areas, thus we have to purchase them via internet, and since your not going to share your source a lot of people pay $70-$80 per case... that was your original comment correct?
Great video! I added individually packaged candy, two small containers: one with salt & pepper mix and another with garlic salt (even roadkill tastes good with these) and powdered soup packets. Also made a powdered coffee and cream mix and packed it into a small waterproof container.
with breakfast i always put cereal in a zip lock sandwich bag with a little powdered milk mixed in, that way all you have to do is add water and you have a nice bag of milk and cereal
Reduce package sizes with your vacuum sealer. Get rid of the beef jerky packaging, there's air in there. Vacuum seal everything in smaller pouches, use oxygen absorbers like in the MRE for stuff like the jerky, crackers, bread, etc. Oxygen is bacterias and molds best friend. Consolidate the packs as best you can to save space and weight. Seal it all up in a mylar pouch.
Great video, I realize that you couldn't cover everything, just putting the ideas out there. :-D
I have a life threatening allergy to pork and have found it very difficult to find pork free products, so making my own MRE's is pretty much the way to go in my situation. Thanks for putting up this video, it gave me a couple new ideas!
@CitySurvivalist I've always said only about 70% of a MREs contents are used and the rest is wasted. Thanks for this video. I hadn't really considered making my own MREs until now.
@Maharet13 Go to kosher Jewish or Muslim stores, if you can find one in your area. They don't carry any pork products at all as a matter of religious practice. Just some non-pork food for thought. ;-)
@Maharet13 Totally get that! I'm gluten intolerant, and now I understand why some of the MRE's didn't agree with me! Nowadays I just buy the entrees so I can be selective.
@MyUrbanfOX Usually vacuum sealing things keeps them fresh longer. Staleness, bacteria growth and mold is caused by air and moisture, vacuum sealing removes air and the potential for moisture buildup/condensation. Using oxygen absorbers (usually iron oxide based) helps remove any air not removed in the sealing process; desiccant packs absorb moisture. Both help prevent staleness. Just remember: DO NO EAT the oxygen absorbers or desiccant packs. ;-)
@ScreamingInDigitlSoS You closed your account after making a very untrue statement. Coconut oil is very healthy in fact every nutritionist is pushing it as one of the healthiest oils around. It was thought a very long time ago that it was bad for your cholesterol but that was a myth and has been debunked by blood testing studies. Any oil that is processed becomes less healthy and in most case becomes dangerous. Coconut and palm keep well without processing.
Hi just a few tips here. Nuts go stail super quick as well as most fats, grains and flour. Make sure if you are buying something from grain or flour that it be vacuum packed do not unpack it to make smaller MRE's .
Coconut fat is the most stable so buy energy bars or candy bars with coconut if you like it. I think most preppers mess up when it comes to fats. They go rancid and although they may taste edible they cause cancer and lower your immunity. Healthy Fats/oils will be vital.
what i do for my kits is go to ur local fast food place and get ther sporks knifes and other stuff free!!!!!!!!! just grab 10 or 20 at a time and over a few months your set for a long time..keep up the good work....join your local militia to fight for your freedoms
Good video. That's a great idea. For canned meat, I think SPAM is about the best thing, especially now that they've started to make it in different flavors. I love the hickory smoked. A can of white albacore tuna is also good, but with the strong smell, not the best if you're in bear country.
I still think the first gen MREs were the best MREs, with the dehydrated meat patties and hot dogs.
Awesome vid man. I was in the navy what branch are you army or marines? Real smart about buying bulk and stocking up, those mre's can be a bit**. Never heard of the white packs, appreciate the intel and insight. Good work
