  • @Sophia9Lott3134 Thank you for the tip, but most Cigar Box guitar players are more interested in the boxes than the smokes themselves. Although, I appreciate your interest. Enjoy.

  • you would wear overalls...

  • @goodha2 Thank you for your comment. Enjoy.

  • Impressive.

  • @ButterflyDragon9 Thank you for your comment. Have you been to cigarboxnation? Happy New Year 2011. Enjoy.

  • Hi Keni Lee,

Thanks for the fast response. Here's a question about eBay. When I search on Keni Lee, I seem to find your stuff offered by lots of other people, not YOU. Is there a direct link to this CD for sale on eBay that you can share? I'm buyin' it! And thanks.

  • @karencentral My authorized dealers are njmikeb and slide4659. I believe this covers the 8 auctions you will find on ebay. Thank you.

  • Hi Keni Lee,

I am not a musician, but I am trying to put a gift together for someone. I bought a super beautiful 3-string reso cigar box guitar from a builder named Charlie Mojo in Peewee Valley, KY. Now, I need to buy an instructional CD for a beginner, and a slide. Can you provide info for your best CD in this category? I'm having trouble figuring out exactly the right thing on eBay. Again, this is for a BEGINNER. Many thanks. LOVE your playing.

  • @karencentral Thank you for your interest, comments, and question. My CD 4 (How to Play 3 string CBG) is a great place to start for a beginner. Also, I recommend this book for my students: Edly's Music Theory for Practical People

You can purchase the book through Amazon and my CD on ebay by searching: keni lee

  • @upnthemorninway2soon Thank you for your question. I am a player not a builder. I would suggest you make some friends over at cigarboxnation. A real nice community of builders that would be able to answer your questions. This instrument was build by my friend Jim Mitchell from cigarcitycbgs. I will send you some information too. Enjoy.

  • Great work, I'm building my first CBG and plan on picking up your instruction cd on ebay. I really had a big laugh at the last slide, it's the funeral scene from 'Live and Let Die'. Any man that can combine the blues with James Bond is a friend of mine, thanks.

  • Thank you for your kind words. Well now I have to laugh. LOL I did not know that was the funeral scene from a Bond movie. Big Fan! Now I got to watch the movie again just to see that scene. Priceless. Please feel free to write if you have any musical questions. Enjoy.

  • thank you sir, I enjoyed that....

  • allways wanted a resophonic, allways wanted to build a cigarrbox guitarr, you're livin' my dream you lucky son of a ****!! 5 stars!

  • Thank you for your comment. I feel very fortunate at this time in my life to be involved in playing and teaching guitar. I spent most of my life supporting myself as a chef. It is only due to the recent shift in the economy over the past few years that I needed to investigate alternate ways of supporting myself. It has been a slow training coming. It took years of work to produce these results. I would encourage you to slowly persue your dream until one day it becomes reality. Enjoy.

  • Awsome playing!loved it.

  • @intipampa Thank you for your kind words. Enjoy.

  • Damn that was sweet.

  • Wow! I just bought a cigar box. My goal is to play this song. I can't sing like you, but hopefully I can play just a little bit like you.

  • Thank you for your comment and interest. Please check out my instructional video CDs 1 and 4. They both contain 3 string Cigar Box guitar lessons. In addition, they will help you understand how to micronize a 6 string open tuned guitar down to a 4 string CBG. Enjoy.

  • I wish I lived in 30'.

Awesome cars, music and no plastic everywhere.

  • Thank you for your comment. Oddly enough it was about 1920/1930 that plastics started to be utilized. Bakelite was even used for guitar necks. Mother of Pearl was replaced with Mother of Toilet seat and became a low cost colorful substitute for fingerboards and headstock overlays. Enjoy.

  • Thanks for that information, I didn't know. Anyway, first half of 20. century art and fashion seems to be based on more natural materials (for example totally gorgeous wooden old radios). Desing was more simple yet more artistic (and soulful, if I may say so) than we use today.

Great playing by the way :D

  • Thank you. Yes, I understand what you are saying. Funny, it is a double edge sword. Back in day, there was no concern about sustainable hardwoods. Today there are shortages and woods like Chestnut are almost gone due to the blight. Plastics, although not the most desirable material are certainly another product of the mother of invention, Necessity. Enjoy.

  • That's right but it would be a good idea if more people made guitars out of cigar boxes and other stuff they've got lying around instead of buying a new one ;) recycling old materials and putting them to a great use. Good playing anyway ;D

  • Thank you for your comment. Enjoy.

  • Yeah man, fuck plastic!

  • Thank you for your comment. Ya, I have to agree with you, plastic is not good. Unfortunately, it is a Catch 22. Less plastic means more depletion of natural resources like wood. Less manufacturing, less economic growth. Talk about being a rat on a wheel. Enjoy.

  • I like this Song so mutch.

  • Thank you. I don't know if you are looking for instruction, but did you notice I teach this song in the free CBG lessons posted on my page (Lesson 6) Enjoy.

  • ahhhh o.k. i see!!!

    Mutch Thanx Keni

  • Thank you. Enjoy.

  • this "cigar box guitar" is amazing.

    bravo!!!

  • Thank you. This one was built by Jim Mitchell of cigarcitycbgs. Please visit his site. it is quite amazing how much is possiible with 3 strings tuned to only 2 notes. Enjoy.

  • wow. that is a LOT of sound for only three strings..way ta go.. really Good! Where does the cake pan part come in? Isn't this a cigar Box guitar?? Just curious...

  • Thank you for your kind words and question. Yes, it is a Cigar Box guitar. The cake pan is the part mounted inside the soundhole that acts like a resonator. Please contact Jim at his site (cigarcitycgbs) for more information. Enjoy.

  • I keep running into performances by accident, man, and I'm always delighted by them.

  • Thank you. Please visit my main page. The videos are organized to make your selection easier. Enjoy.

  • this is truly great

  • Thank you for your knid words. Enjoy.

  • First off, great song (as usual). If you don't mind, could you please tell me a little about how the guitar you use in this video is made? and were you got it? I'm making my first cbg and looking around for ideas. Thank you so much for all the videos and help.

  • Thank you. Please visit Jim at .cigarcitycbgs. He is the builder of this CBG and can provide the full details. Enjoy.

  • thanks you

  • Too nice dude

  • Thank you for your comment. Enjoy.

  • where were you when they were searching for artists for Oh, Brother Where art thou? or COLD MOUNTAIN??

Your style / playing / approach would have been a huge addition to these two recent albums of "americana"......indeed, better than some of the tracks that actually made it!

    great job, Keni

  • Thank you very much for such a nice compliment. Well, I'm here. If you see them coming, send them my way. LOL Enjoy.

  • that kicks ass all over the place!

  • Thank you for your comment. Enjoy.

  • Awesom! What I like the most is the voice and the way you get the tone. My sister is a singer and she can´t stop listening to you. Congrats from Mexico City.

  • Two words. Love it! This kind of music drives my wife a little nutty so I get double for my money. I get to listen to a great player/singer AND I get under my wifes skin. You really cant beat that. What I noticed about this video is the old film effect. Nice touch. If you keep playing em, well all keep watching em.

  • Thank you. Well, I guess I'm glad your getting a double bonus. lol. If you go to my page and click on Playlists, the videos are organized for better selection. Enjoy.

  • KeniLeeBurgess, you got it goin on.

Most guitar-nut types might not notice, but what I particularly like is your voice! YOUR VOICE IS FANTASTIC! It fits perfectly with the music.

  • Thank you for your comment and encouragement. Playing guitar and matching the notes with my voice while searching for melody lines of a song has been a great practice to improve my singing. Enjoy.

  • great playing

    damn fine indeed.

  • Thank you.

  • Everything great and nothing not great! Reminds me of what I love about Dexter Romweber and Bob Log too. You sing beautifully.

  • Thank you. After investigating, I understand what you are saying. I personally have no ambition to stand in the sun. It is too hot. I'm content to sit in the shade. To quote Popeye, I am what I am, that's all that I am, cuz I am what I am! Enjoy.

  • Pretty cool! And with the 3 strings original at least to me.

  • Thank you. It is a lot of fun playing these primal instruments. It definately is a study in trying to do more with less. lol. Enjoy.

  • Cool version of a great tune. linked from BoingBoing!

  • Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. Enjoy.

  • Hey Keni

    Thanks for another one.

I'd love to be able to buy a cd with the solo tunes you've been posting over the last year or so.

    Joe

  • Thank you Joe. Do you own a copy of my studio recorded CD, Good & Evil? You can hear the first three tracks on CD Baby if you search my name. Enjoy.

  • They work great for that boogie feel. Gone have to get me one!

  • Thank you. Ya, I added a touch of Mr. John Lee Hooker to this arrangement for a little spice. Please check out Cigar City's site. Jim will work with you to build a very playable work of folk art. Enjoy.

  • "I expect you replaced the Mrs. cake pan with a new one? Sounded Great Keni.

    fellow CBN member"

I am a Cigar Box Nation member

I assumed you made the guitar out of your wifes cake tin, but I guess I was wrong, sorry to confuse you.

  • Thank you for your comment. Cigar Box Nation is definately a great site! Enjoy.

  • I love how your videos look as bluesy as they sound!

  • Thank you. I use windows movie maker to produce my videos. Enjoy.

  • I expect you replaced the Mrs. cake pan with a new one? Sounded Great Keni.

    fellow CBN member

  • Thank you. I'm not sure I understand your comment. This guitar was built by Jim Mitchell of Cigar City CBGs. Please visit his site and contact him for more details. Enjoy.

  • You sure get a lot of sound from just 3 strings.

I checked out the cigar box site. Seems like a fair deal for a hand made instrument.

Is that as fun and easy to play as it looks?

    Any problems staying in tune?

  • Thank you. I think you will find the quality of Cigar City's guitars very good. Correct intonation and no tuning problems. The guitar is simplified due to it's tuning. There are three strings, but only two notes. Basic music theory is very easy to learn and apply. I have lessons available that make it a fun experience. Enjoy.

  • Great !!! Thank you Keni !

    Regards

    vincent

  • You are welcome. Thank you for your comment. Enjoy.

  • "YOUR A TRUE BLUESMAN IN THE MOLD OF THE TRADITIONAL DELTA BLUES MASTERS KENILEE"! I Love your version better than the great Muddys(Respects to him). Blues For Me - will always be Charlie Patton, Blind Willy Johnson, Robert Johnson or you and Bob

Brozman getting down without any Electrification or 'special effects', Just an Acoustic stringed instrument. That's the real Blues - 'The Blues of the Old Masters'! Thanks for this Kenilee, your an inspiration !"

  • Thank you for your very nice compliment. Wow, some big shoes to fill! No pressure. lol. I just love this stuff. I've never been a big fan of playing electric guitars. It actually freaks me out a little hearing the sound from a box across the room. Lately, I'm really fasinated by these simply little guitars. I hope these videos encourage others to explore the Cigar Box Guitar Revolution. Interested viewers have to be sure to check out cigarboxnation. Enjoy and thank you again.
