I'm sorry, but I felt that Phantom Brave's combat mechanics were, simply put, broken. I remember being excited for Phantom Brave's release since I had enjoyed Disgaea so much, but was incredibly disappointed with poorly tested combat system.

As many amazing games you missed on the PSX, your PS2 list is filled with garbage from NIS and Gust. Xenosaga was an odd choice as the battle system was terrible, despite having the best storyline out of just about that were listed, as was Wild ARMs 5 when you could have listed any of the other game in the series to pull a better one.

@kupomogli Hmm well it IS a RPG recommendations video so that means mentioning games that I think would be interesting to try out. Im not out to mention your favorites but I am only mentioning ones that I have played and liked. A saying goes one persons garbage is another persons treasure. :)

@kupomogli I find it funny that you think the Gust games he mentioned are garbage. Also, last time I checked, but one of the most praised aspects of the Xenosaga series was it's gameplay. You're obviously free to think how you want, that goes without saying, but I can't help but think you've come off as quite a dick in expressing how you feel.

here's my recomendations for Ps1 and Ps2

Ps1: Suikoden 1, and 2, Breath of Fire 4, FF7,8,9, Tales Of Destiny 2, Chrono Trigger, Digimon World 3, Legend of Dragoon, Threads of Fate, Valkyrie Profile, and Xenogears

Ps2: FF10, Kingdom Hearts 1,2, Suikoden 3 - 5, Dragon Quest VIII, Valkyrie Profile Silmeria, RPG Maker 3, and Wild Arms 5

Radiata story was too bland for me ;o; I was hyped so hard for it n bought it when it came out. Dam I sold my Digtal Devil Saga 1 Dx was a great game = D my 2nd of the shin megami series, 1st was persona 2= D

You sir, are very good at recommending RPGs. I own FFVII, FFIX, FFX, Parasite Eve, Disgaea, Shadow Hearts: Covenant, Legend of Dragoon, Persona 3, Persona 4 and Rogue Galaxy. All of which are very good RPGs. I am extremely jealous that you've played Nocturne and DIgital Devil Saga. Those are two games I've been looking for forever and haven't been able to find them.

Thanks so much for the recommendations! I am an old school RPG guy and love turn-based games. From the looks of your recommendations you appreciate the old school as well.

I picked up mana khemia 1, 2 and Nocturne games as a result of this video and look forward to diving in.

That is after I finish up Dragon Quest 8 which I am now 110hrs in and still going strong. I would also like to recommend a great find you might want to add to your collection. It's Dragon Quest 5 remake for PS2.

Where is Disgaea?? Those games are AMAZING!! The first Disgaea's the funniest game I've ever played (maybe Disgaea 3 is a bit funnier, but that's ps3), and the gameplay quickly made it my favourite tactical RPG series. Not to mention the game comes with both the english and Japanese language tracks, so dubs or subs is your choice, which is INCREDIBLY AWESOME.

I've played through Disgaea five times, the replayability is LEGENDARY. Come on, Forestlock, where is it? Have you just never played one?

You got me in an RPG mood! I have a heap of classics I've yet to play and a few to finish off (including good old Persona 4!). Thanks for the list, its given me a good idea of what to look out for - here in the UK its quite hit and miss as to which RPG's we get, that said I did have a Mana Khemia special box set which I had to speand (its rubbish being skint!)..

Disgea 1 & 2 are awesome fun as well, the only problem is the random dungeon element on number 1 when you go into the 'weapon world' to power up any weapon by killing the baddies inside it (?) - sometimes the map will be TOO random and there is literally no way to finish it.. Happened to me twice now.. :(

@bobsamurai the battle system a bit more awesome than 2 n 3 imo although 2 n 3 got the flashy stuff(but still,old school ftw). But one thing im certain about is that the story is a masterpiece. If u cant find it, try playing it on a ps1 emulator.

Excellent, excellent video! This should be a great video for all those who want to get into the more niche RPGs.

I consider myself a casual RPG fan focusing on the obvious games like Square and Enix. Only last year I found out about Atlus and now recently about NIS, Gust and Level-5.

Too bad Europe got screwed with a lot of very limited releases, collector/hoarders or just never getting the game. So it is hard to get your hands on them. I definitely hope to play these someday!
