I love both guns myself,i own a mossberg 500 but for any bird hunter watching this id 100% recomend semi auto.I hunt geese just fine with my pump but its alot simpler to use a semi.
Anbody watching this for home protection i like the pump because the "chhick chhhick" pump sound will make an indruders guts drop to the floor.
@devyn172 Interesting. I've racked the12 ga for nearly 30 years and not once has anyone ever hit the deck, spilt their guts, or done anything of the sort.
If you don't have one in the pipe, you were not ready. Not to mention an audible ping to your location just isn't smart.
@hackerhunterdotexe You dont understand what im saying, What i meant is In incase of home protection matters, the sound of racking a shell into your pump shotgun is intimidating. "make their guts drop" .shit their pants.
@devyn172 I understand what you are saying. The fact is, racking a shotgun is not intimidating. If an intruder breaks in to your home, they do not care what you do or do not rack. Not having a round in the pipe is introducting a point of failure. You are going to be fumbling around when you are groggy from being woken up and it will more than likely be dark. If you do not fully cycle the action, you will not get a round into battery, you will get a mushy trigger.
@devyn172 In the case of contact or imminent contact, the last thing you want to do is introduce a point of failure.
If racking a shotgun scared anyone as you say it does, home intruders/criminals would not end up being shot while we are defending our families or ourselves.
@hackerhunterdotexe Im not trying to debate on that subject. I keep 5, 3" 00 buckshots In the shell holder I have on the butt of my mb500. In my opinion i dont want to have a loaded gun in my house even if the saftey is on,it only takes 1 second to rack one in same as 1 second to have a fatal accident.I wouldnt know what to think if one of my freinds or family members got hurt by me having a loaded gun for them to find.
@devyn172 Sounds like you need to educate your friends and family.
What do you plan to do if one of your arms goes down for ANY reason and you need to defend yourself, Now.... Not in, "One second."
Mr. Hickok has a video of a Moss 590A1 - in which he failes to fully cycle the action several times. Most would consider him proficient and safe. He failed to get rounds into battery while enjoying some shotgun time. Not while he's under stress and his motor skills have gone caveman.
@devyn172 Consider the location of your shotgun. I doubt that you sleep with it since you don't feel "Safe" having a round in the pipe. Once you wake up, asses the situation, get to your shotgun (which probably involve a door or two) and gas it up - it'll be a whole lot longer than "One second" to get that system running and into the fight.
@hackerhunterdotexe My shotgun is in my closet right next to my bed and its a sliding glass door.I also have a 22lr with a loaded clip that i can slide in, in "one second".
is it normally hard to hit that gong target that far away with a shotgun? in other words are you a pro shooter or is that pretty standard distance for a shotgun target?
@dabaddestbob ohh I definetly do not plan on selling that thing lol maybe ill do a video on it, who knows. Having that shotgun made me not want any other kind of shotgun lol Its so freakin reliable and it has the slam fire feature. Great times.
Dabaddestbob I know right! I'm not a huge shotgun fan in the first place since there are a select few I actually like. Im more of a rifle person to be honest. But when i saw pictures of the 97T I just fell for it right away. Lol I never thought I would actually get a hold of one but like you said I am a very lucky man indeed. It's the most fun firearm I have shot yet. Between the guns history and looks it was well worth the price.
If there is a zombie attack, no doubt you will need a semi, you would not want to pump when your off hand is stuck or injured or holding your mate... Besides, the without the need to pump, you can hold out a small device, like a smartphone for navigation purposes... ^.^"
Hickok45 awesome video!! Great representation of the differences between both the Pump and Semi! This past summer I picked up a 1897 Trench Gun or as its called a Norinco 97T, at a local gun show. Its a pump. I fired it once before and it is amazing. You have any tips for me with shooting that shotgun. Could you by chance get your hands on one of those and do a video of it !!?? Please!?
I just thought of a brilliant idea. Why has no one ever made a double barrel pump action? With a single trigger, you pump 2 shots load, fire at the same time..WHY HAVE THEY NOT MADE THAT?
@WeeItsNookies That idea has been around since the game "Turok" came out in the '90's. People have done something similar by mounting two shotguns together. There are videos on here. Most of the time they are just taped. However, there aren't really any benefits to doing that. It takes a lot more effort to pump so you aren't really firing off any more rounds. Plus the recoil is twice as bad, so that cause problems as well. Cool idea, but it just doesn't work very well.
@thereturningshadow i was just sitting here wondering the models of these guns.. i've watched this video a couple times, but i've forgot.. anyhow.. the Heckler & Koch, when googled, Benelli also comes up.. so i take it they are related, possibly the same maker?? since we are on the subject, can anyone give us more details on the models of these awesome shotguns?? i love my wood and blue steel, but these two have got my eye!! esp the Mossberg pump..
@1:42, the semi-auto clearly is stamped Heckler & Koch. Why do you keep calling it a Benelli? Was that just a simply mistake regarding a similar shotgun? Do you have a Benelli?
I was originally just coming to see you shoot the guns for a few minutes, but I found myself still sitting here 17 minutes later! Thanks for the great video, really enjoyed your explanations.
im all about the mossber 590a1 thats a prooven battle gun with no hang ups.. i will stick to what works.and it's cool looking as well as intimidating with that SSSHHCCKK- SSSHHHCKK!!! sound ha ha ha MOSSBERG 590A1 baby all day!
I know this is to compare action to action, but I think I would go with the mossberg because of the reliability, satisfaction of pumping it, and the simple bead sights to get on target faster.
HICKOK, I'm having trouble with a slight zombie infestation on my compound. I was wondering how much you would charge to take care of my problem. I haven't been able to enertain company lately, as i am too embarassed to invite over guests. The smell is just unbarable.
basically im not going to read the last pages of this utube fight between you dumbasses but i have had armed men enter my home unwanted i know what its like and you make do with the situation... besides owning a reliable gun and ammo theres nothing you can do to prepare... in some situations you just have to sit back and wait it out
@mnardski6262 And if that doesn't scare them off, then they know "oh, this guy has a shotgun" in ____ direction or in ____ room. Losing that element of surprise can easily get you killed when facing an armed assailant. Unnecessary sounds = BAD.
@mnardski6262 Not while I was home, but I'm also not unreasonable enough to justify an attempt to scare a home invader by simultaneously giving away my position and essentially shouting "I got a shotgun!" Racking a shotgun will probably scare away an unarmed teenager on his first attempt of burglary, but I doubt it will scare away one or more experienced, presumably armed gang members.. It's a chance I'd rather not take. Have you had your house broken into?
my pops went and fired two rounds from his 9 and the guys fled, one time, i was here with with my buddy, he grabbed a bat i had the shotty, racked it, and yelled at him. he got scared shitless, ran out my back door and with my two blues, waiting outside got attacked by both of them, by the time i cleared the area and went after him he was over the fence with a blood trail following his rear. ever since nothing has happened, he may have been armed and just didnt want to tango or wasnt armed,
@mnardski6262 Racking a shotgun within view/earshot of a bg just means you didn't already have one in the chamber..and confronting a bg with an empty barrel can easily become a suicidal act. Many states allow for you to shoot first and ask questions later -- if your state allows for that, take advantage of that legal protection and don't take any chances when it comes to your life. The two most valuable things when dealing with a home invasion are violence of action and the element of surprise.
@mnardski6262 (cont.) Shooting at them with 9mm (or any gun for that matter) is completely different from racking a shotgun and yelling at a bg. However, when you initiate that "fight or flight" response from a bg, you never know how he will react. THAT is why you don't rack a shotgun to try and scare them off or shoot to miss/scare. Just because some flee doesn't mean they all will, and for all you know, they could already have a gun in hand. If you have a gun, you better be ready to take life.
@mnardski6262 Nope, but I have taken a few defensive (offensive?) shotgun/handgun courses. What correlation does military service have with confronting burglars anyway? One of the first rules with owning a firearm is that when you must point it at someone, you better be ready to use it. Plus, I believe that on the scale of justice for burglars, them getting shot is second only to their arrest and imprisonment, and even that's debatable based on surrounding circumstances.
saiga's are cool but overpriced imo .700 to 1000 bucks for one then add on another 1200 for the conversion and trigger job. back when they where 300 bucks id say get one in a second nowadays id just get a benneli and mossberg 500 for the same amount

@Cosmo1093 were you in the military?
mnardski6262 1 month ago
@mnardski6262 Nope, but I have taken a few defensive (offensive?) shotgun/handgun courses. What correlation does military service have with confronting burglars anyway? One of the first rules with owning a firearm is that when you must point it at someone, you better be ready to use it. Plus, I believe that on the scale of justice for burglars, them getting shot is second only to their arrest and imprisonment, and even that's debatable based on surrounding circumstances.
