Warners suck, i was in this industry for a time parrallel importing and warners were the dunbest company i came across. A little lesson to the haters: Many of the artists that sign with WMG never make back the money that it costs (paid by WMG) to distribute their work. The profits that WMG makes come mostly from a handful of superstar artists. Without those profits, WMG could not afford to sign new acts. Artists who don't like the contracts offered to them are of course free to sign with another company. WMG's history, though, shows that a lot of acts have stayed with them, even after they didn't have to.
Mr./Ms. Shareholder likes to pretend He/she's the only one with moral standing and understanding. Mr./Ms. Shareholder continues to make money from something Mr./Ms. Shareholder had absolutely no hand whatsoever in actually creating. As a WMG shareholder, I approve of their efforts to protect their copyrights. They would be remiss not to. Using copyrighted music in a video without authorization is piracy. And youtube would not have become as popular as it has without abetting such piracy.
I'm shocked by the entitlement mentality of those who have posted anti-WMG videos. Recorded music is expensive to produce and market. Nobody has the right to use it without permission. And no, the "fair use" doctrine does not apply.
when a film or music is considered art, it is due to the fact that the piece of art promoted certain ideas and values that should be accessible for everyone. People like you, Mr. Shareholder, will never understand the true meaning of art and creativity. As an artist, one has to earn credibility through e.g. touring and promoting music. Therefore it is not sufficient to create one or two 'masterpieces' that pay generations of businessmen until they burst eventually.

They don't get any revenue from youtube posters copying their recordings to a random video that may have nothing to do with the music. That is nothing but cooptation and piracy.

The point is, how the hell is it taking any cent off WMG's plate if a simple video uploader is playing a song on YouTube? I'm sorry but I can't connect the dots here. This deal that WMG has with songs like this that we've heard in countless other places for years has got to be 1 of the grossest of injustices. What's more, this site used to be about the public, i.e. US. Now we're just susceptible to growing limitations from more silly clauses in contracts, YouTube should have read the fine print.
WMG, Sony Music and similar companies act they're personally being robbed every time someone posts a track that they own the rights to. They, of course, only provided nothing but the fairest of deals to their artists themselves. George Michael can testify to this.
They had the audio removed from this clip, because this clip had the most views. YouTube is smart. WMG wanted more money from YouTube. YouTube refused. WMG said that YouTube could not use "WMG-music" anymore. YouTube removed a lot of high-profile clips that use "WMG-music". Everybody started hating WMG (because YouTube made sure we all knew who wanted the audio removed). WMG backed off. And now you see "WMG-music"on YouTube again...

when google took over youtube it changed a whole bunch. first we got the crappy beta channels then wmg sided with google and muted 91.3421% of all its videos with music thats not registered therefore most videos was blocked,muted or deleted and most channels was suspeended, or closed.

WMG has every right to request that their music be removed from Youtube's videos, and they have every right to sue Youtube if they don't get removed. Would you rather have a couple videos lose their audio, or would you rather have Youtube be shut down because they can't pay to fight lawsuits?

I am a professional DJ. I have DJed in venues from New York to Moscow. I also am and have been in radio for 12 years now. I recently have been trying to promote my mixes on US web sites and have been having problems because of WMG. result: I have had to pull their music from my rotation. The artists loose most of all. They loose club and radio play.

were how I got tunes in the 70s and 80s. These ways can work today, too.
WMG does not own the rights to the music from the album released on Enterprise (read: Stax) Records. Those rights belong to Concord Music Group, which purchased them from Fantasy Records. Fantasy took over Stax when the original label closed up in the late 70's.
Warner has the rights to the audio soundtrack of the motion picture itself, NOT the ALBUM or any recording sessions for it. Warner Bros. purchased the MGM film library in the Ted Turner buyout. Appeal the decision.
Well, they are not muting videos with indiscriminate willpower all across Youtube. Search artists like ABBA, AFI, etc. Their videos wont be muted by some petty copyright infringement.
Now If your search artists like Isaac Hayes or Bjork here on YouTube, good luck finding a video with audio.

ok here's a history lesson. warner brothers in the 70's was one of the coolest labels going. they used to put out these 2 lp samplers of their artists for 2 bucks a piece, and they'd actually let an artist stay on their label for more than one or 2 lp's if they weren't selling 2 or 3 million copies each time out....it was amazing at one time...alice cooper, captain beefheart, fleetwood mac, the everly brothers, faces/rod stewart, the list goes on and on...too bad they're such lameasses now.
good point...the problem nowadays is the sheer volume of artists out there, and if someone isn't selling records WMG can simply take their pick out of millions of others and promote the hell out of them. remember musics not about hard work, integrity or songwriting any more, its about image and promotion :(

What you guys don't understand is that there's nothing wrong with corporations that attempt profit maximization. Nobel Prize Winning Economist Milton Friedman once said "the only social responsibility of a corporation is the maximization of profit."
However, WMG is behaving like retards when they force us to remove all our audio, when they could instead monetize it, which would increase their profit by both giving them better Public Relations and additional advertising revenue.

On a brighter note, I've noticed some postings of mine that were instantly blocked by the Universal Music Group over six months ago, have recently become 'live'! It could be that UMG at least are realising the benefit of allowing their music to heard on mediums like this.
It's getting worse now. The same music groups are trying to get congress to pass a tax that would force RADIO STATIONS to pay MONEY to play/promote THEIR MUSIC. If they wanted to commit business suicide, there are quicker ways.

The point is, how the hell is it taking any cent off WMG's plate if a simple video uploader is playing a song on YouTube? I'm sorry but I can't connect the dots here. This deal that WMG has with songs like this that we've heard in countless other places for years has got to be 1 of the grossest of injustices. What's more, this site used to be about the public, i.e. US. Now we're just susceptible to growing limitations from more silly clauses in contracts, YouTube should have read the fine print.

WMG, Sony Music and similar companies act they're personally being robbed every time someone posts a track that they own the rights to. They, of course, only provided nothing but the fairest of deals to their artists themselves. George Michael can testify to this.

They had the audio removed from this clip, because this clip had the most views. YouTube is smart. WMG wanted more money from YouTube. YouTube refused. WMG said that YouTube could not use "WMG-music" anymore. YouTube removed a lot of high-profile clips that use "WMG-music". Everybody started hating WMG (because YouTube made sure we all knew who wanted the audio removed). WMG backed off. And now you see "WMG-music"on YouTube again...

when google took over youtube it changed a whole bunch. first we got the crappy beta channels then wmg sided with google and muted 91.3421% of all its videos with music thats not registered therefore most videos was blocked,muted or deleted and most channels was suspeended, or closed.

WMG has every right to request that their music be removed from Youtube's videos, and they have every right to sue Youtube if they don't get removed. Would you rather have a couple videos lose their audio, or would you rather have Youtube be shut down because they can't pay to fight lawsuits?
I'm not saying that what WMG is doing is "morally right", I'm saying it's "legally right" and there's nothing that can be done to stop them.

Also, WMG sometimes claims music that they do not have rights too. I am already in one dispute with them.
WMG is also destroying myspace. A lot of music artists and labels do not use that site because they can not even upload music that they own because WMG claims it is theirs, and you can not dispute it there.

I recently have been trying to promote my mixes on US web sites and have been having problems because of WMG. result: I have had to pull their music from my rotation. The artists loose most of all. They loose club and radio play.

I've discoverd a lot of music that I liked (and bought) via You Tube and other places online. now, if I hear something I like, I research to see who they're signed to. If it's WMG, then I buy it used so WMG doen't get any of my money. I would rather pay 5 dollars too much to an individual than to give another 5 cents to Warner Bros.

@skovol007 Walk into any Good Will Store, or Salvation Army Thrift Shop. Find places that sell used LPs and tapes. Buzz through any consignment shop or second hand store. Find Garage sales that have albums for sale. All of these ways
were how I got tunes in the 70s and 80s. These ways can work today, too.

Appeal the decision.
WMG does not own the rights to the music from the album released on Enterprise (read: Stax) Records. Those rights belong to Concord Music Group, which purchased them from Fantasy Records. Fantasy took over Stax when the original label closed up in the late 70's.
Warner has the rights to the audio soundtrack of the motion picture itself, NOT the ALBUM or any recording sessions for it. Warner Bros. purchased the MGM film library in the Ted Turner buyout. Appeal the decision.

ok here's a history lesson. warner brothers in the 70's was one of the coolest labels going. they used to put out these 2 lp samplers of their artists for 2 bucks a piece, and they'd actually let an artist stay on their label for more than one or 2 lp's if they weren't selling 2 or 3 million copies each time out....it was amazing at one time...alice cooper, captain beefheart, fleetwood mac, the everly brothers, faces/rod stewart, the list goes on and on...too bad they're such lameasses now.

What you guys don't understand is that there's nothing wrong with corporations that attempt profit maximization. Nobel Prize Winning Economist Milton Friedman once said "the only social responsibility of a corporation is the maximization of profit."
However, WMG is behaving like retards when they force us to remove all our audio, when they could instead monetize it, which would increase their profit by both giving them better Public Relations and additional advertising revenue.
