I always looked forward to seeing Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas every Christmas season. It's a heartwarming story wih a lot of cute critters in it and some very excellent songs! I hadn't thought about it until recently. Now that I know it's out there, I think I'll pick this DVD up!
argh! thank you youtube who pulled my video of the original airing featuring Kermit. I uploaded it to the- internet archive.org. the dvd featured here is the edited version. i know. i have it. it does not have kermit who hosts the story & narrates through out.
just search emmet, & go to the link. anyone can download it. it takes about 30 minutes to do so. download the mpeg4 file for best quality.
I moved my upload (from tubengagements) to my new channel.
I've uploaded the original vhs recording from 1982 featuring Kermit, who was deleted (along with a few other scenes) in later broadcasts, & vhs/dvd's.
I am uploading them now & have most online. If you don't see ALL parts they'll be there today.
It is very true about the younger people not knowing about Jim Henson. The other day at work we talking about Emmet Otter's Jug Band Cristmas, and only myself and one other person knew the movie! Jim Henson had the greatest imagination,I wish he was still around and making movies. The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth,The Muppet Show,Fraggle Rock,The Storyteller, and everything else he did was awesome. I watch his stuff with my kids so they can experience the magic as I have all these years.
I still have the original movie on VHS!! Amesome video! I got it from my cousins schoolteacher and watched and fell in love with it! I reminds me of some of the bluegrass and jug bands, such as the cox family.
That is crazy talk. Tell that girl. I haven't seen it in years but you reminded me about it and I'm going to start looking for it. Were did you get it?
I didn't know you could grow up without Jim Henson (I'm 23). Admittedly, the Muppets brand was stronger than his other works (Labyrinth is a terrible movie, no matter what David Bowie's codpiece says). The Great Muppet Caper, Muppet Movie, Muppet Christmas Carol, all staples in my house, solid movies. I'll pick this one up for mom, she loves christmas movies.
You grew up with the Muppets? So did I actually. They were born the same time I was, so they were more for my generation Gen X, than the 20 somethings of today.
They are very popular in Canada. I think we Canadians are more open to kids show. Mr. Rogers made his debut in Canada. Fraggle Rock was a Canadian show as well.
On a personal level I had Muppet finger puppets as a child, lol.
I have yet to see this particular film but I have hear of it. I'm glad Kate that you gave it a glowing review.
omg!!!!why would someone not know jim henson...You can create and buy your own what-not from the muppets now...and I watch christmas films all year round, they are sweet (there again I was listening to christmas music a month ago)
i'm eeeeking! this is one of my fave feel good movies. jim henson had such a sweet, sincere touch with his storytelling. combine that with his adorable muppets and then add OTTERs.... sweet cheeses! sigh and hearts.
LOVE the Muppets and LOVE "Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas". It just hit me that I don't own this when I saw the title of your video. Must change that pronto.
I'm 17 and even I have heard of the muppets! I remember their movie in 2000, I saw it at the drive in because I was pretty poor as a child so I rarely went to the theater. We would only go on special occasions and we brang gingerale and made our own popcorn before hand. We'd usually go around Christmas time because A) It was a jolly time and B) it was easier to hide things under your coats.
I used to love the muppets!!!! Along with Jim Henson, I loved labyrinth. I like the muppets' Christmas Carol, and when I was younger I had a tape of the muppets doing fairy tales and such! I watched it ALL THE TIME!
The Muppets are classic (Fozzie was my favorite) this movie reminds of another Jim Henson movie I seen when I was a kid I forget the name of it but it had to do with bunnies and a hunter, I think Bean Bunny was in it
Yet again another great pick this is the only xmas movie i'll watch besides A Chirstmas story.I think if henson hadn't died so early kids now would still know the muppets and all that very well.
I actually love you more each week. Muppets for the epic win! I don't know what I'd do without Jim Henson, I really don't. I wouldn't know what to say to that girl who couldn't understand why anyone would want to watch the Muppet movie! ?
That's one of my favorite chilrdens movies. Jim Henson 4 life! You know they are making another Dark Crystal, right? Not a remake though. Just another movie in the same world...so I read.
I'm 14 and I love the muppets. They are THE shit. The shizzle. The Shambo. The shiggdoda. Yah dig? Well they're like a sketchy uncle to me that teaches you that it's okay to be furry loving and momentarialy pyschotic.
omg that girl's parents should be slapped with an alaskan salmon for depriving her of muppetty goodness! i mean how does a person grow up and not have watched sesame street or been exposed to a muppet movie? *sigh* how sad
Jim Henson was a genius! I love picking up old films from the late 70s to mid 90s and seeing the Jim Henson production logo in the credits. In my opinion, models, sets, and puppets look sooooo much more realistic then the best CG out there. For one thing you don't have that constant annoying digital line in every shot when the actors interact with the CG. Plus, the actors actually have someone to act off of instead of holding their hand in place and being told the creature will be added in later
Every Christmas when my dad and I would put up the tree we would watch Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas.
I like the hard core rock band! I think I still know all the words. Emmet put a hole in his mothers wash tub! He was so loving about it when he was trying to decide if he should do it. His dad died, and they are poor as all get out! BEST HOLIDAY MOVIE EVER!!! You are perfect!
How can anyone not like Jim Henson or The Muppets, they're amazing. Jim Henson was a genius and my hero and inspiration.
Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas is a classic christmas special. I think it ranks up with other Christmas specials, such as Rudolph the Red-Noised Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and others.
I agree completely with the love of muppets. I've always felt a much greater connection to them than these so called "real" actors. Real is a point of view lol
thats crazy talk!hunni u go home get it watch it!!
haha!
i use to watch the Taylor of Gloucster by Beatrix Potter every christmas eve, its rele good a total classic/cartoon/not cartoon/ its kinda inbetween, u'll see what i mean if u WATCHED it!
I've seen that movie probably a hundred times growing up... it was one of the few movies my family had taped off of tv and watched pretty much every month of my whole childhood.. So good. I didn't know it was on DVD, I will be buying it right now, thanks for reviewing this.

OMG, is this the one with the Riverbottom Nightmare Band? Who hate what they don't understand?
And out of nowhere some other band does "Barbecue" so now Emmet Otter's Jug Band can't play it because they'll be accused of copying?
