the show is SO bad. I occaisionally attempt to give it another chance on a bored Sunday evening usually changing the channel less than 5 minutes due to the incessant over the top attempts at making a joke and the subsequent pity I feel. Simpsons was the best ever from season 3 to around the early 2000's. Family guy took a dive even faster, unfortunately.

@570y3n I don't agree with season 3 being the start of the "classic" Simpsons era because that means that "Bart the General", "Krusty Gets Busted" etc.. were not part of the classic era. Season three started with the Michael Jackson episode and "Lisa Goes to Washington" (Lisa declares the system works!) and these were two of the lamest episodes of the series. Classic Simpsons started with season one.

Out of the cartoons I watch (or used to):

The Simpsons - Old school fan. Don't watch the new episodes

Family Guy - Still watch. Ocassionally funny still - but I don't like the strained seriousness they're going for. Also, the cuttaways aren't as good

Futurama - New seasons are pretty good. Not as good as 1-4, but I like them alot

South Park and American Dad - Still hilarious

Remember when Homer tries to put on his pants, and Bart & Lisa tape him entitling it "The Eternal Struggle". That was the episode with "The Critic" (Jon Lovitz) and the film-festival, in season 6. A great episode amongst my friends anf family and probably amongst fans of seasons 1-10.
