@txtpaddy1 Also a rugby player would have absolutely no chance in the nfl of suceeding, you sound a little jealous of it, because while rugby still gains no revenue and is barely watched, the nfl rakes in millions of viewers
@Taluglalom837 That's utter nonsense. Rugby is barely watched? Really? the 2007 RWC had a viewership in the billions, and was broadcast in 205 countries. What else are you simply going to pull out your ass?
you's are idiots, rugby is better than gridiron in every way rugbys not a speed sport dummy's its a physical sport the player's are built for strength and endurance not speed, but rugby has cousin sport's that are made for speed like touch, look it up if you want a definition for speed.
@WizFanClan77 Couple of things, is this with ball in hand? I doubt it. Also the 40 you run is 40 yards - these guys were doing 40 m = 44 yards (extrapolating your time it would take you 5.08s). Finally, these guys wouldn't even make a provincial team in NZ, Niue is a nothing team. Most international wingers will run this a hell of a lot faster (and faster than most NFL RBs)
@pubuman All true, but not a chance would they run it faster than the fastest NFL players, RB's or not. In fact WR's and CB's get the fastest times anyway, around 4.3 being really impressive. But the RB's are getting 4.4 or 4.5.
@Snortthesweetener Joe Rokocoko (former All Black, who has fairly slow acceleration in regards to other backs in the international game) ran the 40m in 4.66 which equates to a time of around 4.23s for 40 yards. (A very rough calculation - I would say its a bit slower). So I think there is a very good chance that they would at least be equally fast as NFL players, but with the endurance to boot ...
@Snortthesweetener One of the fastest recorded 40m times I have found for a rugby player is 4.53s, which equates to 4.11s for 40yrds. The fastest ever recorded split over 40m (that I know of) is Ben Johnson at 4.38s (but that was a flying split).
@Taluglalom837 As I stated the fastest 40m split ever recorded is by Ben Johnson, at 4.38s, which equates to 3.98s over 40yards - so you are wrong, the fastest sportsmen run it a lot faster!
and inspiring to go pro one day. Not just play to play for our u.s team but to atleast play it for the endurance conditioning that could benefit to excel in other contact sports. Thanks for the link
Gerhard van den Heever of the Blue Bulls ran a 20.9 in the 200 when a schoolboy, faster than what percy harvin and ted ginn ran at the same age.considered two of the fastest men in the NFL.Ugo Monye's 100 was 10.6 at age 17 in a final with Tyrone Egdar and Mark Lewis Francis (who were running 10.5/4 at the time), Olympians that now run close to 10 flat. Vainikolo ran 10.6 when he was 17 for the world youth games and plays at 245lbs. Rugby players are as athletic as NFL players. end of debate!
Let the foorball player take off his kit......he will get deflowered like a high school girl!!!! Rugby== Toughest game on earth 80 min non stop. Football players watch half the game!!!
@RheinhardtP football players are much faster, stronger, and hit way harder. No, a rugby player would never make the team, because they are too slow, too weak, and hit like pussies. Granted, every once in a while, there will be a shocker, but nothing like the hits in football. Nonstop? Have you ever watched or played rugby? Waiting for the scrum, waiting for the ruck to play out, waiting for the line out. Just because the time clock doesn't stop, doesn't make the game itself nonstop.
@BodybuildinginTX do you have any stats to back that up or is it just conjecture. Here is some facts you may not like. Vernon Davis, widely considered the best athlete in the NFL, weighs 250 and ran a 10.7 in high school. Lesley Vainikolo, a rugby wing, weighs 245 and ran 10.6 at the same age. Jonah Lomu weighed 270 at 18 and ran a 10.7. Pierre Spies, the springbok backrower, weighs over 240, runs a 10.7 and has a vertical in excess of 44''. Just type Tuigali and see how hard rugby players are.
@crjacks84 Look at any linebacker. All are in the 240-260 range and have 40 yard times (roughly 36 meters) so pretty close for comparison. Just recently, a competition was held in rugby to dtermine the fastest player in rugby. The fastes times were in the low 5 seconds range. An average linebacker runs the forty in 4.5-4.7 range. An average offensive lineman weighs well over 300 pounds and yet still runs the forty in less than 5 seconds. Larry Allen (325 pounds) benched over 750 pounds for reps!
@BodybuildinginTX youre wrong. First of, the world bench press record is 713lbs,so the Larry Allen thing is bogus.Second, the rugby sprint you referred to above is 40metres (44 yards)on grass with a ball in hand.Third, those arent elite rugby players, theyre rugby 7's players, most of whom arent good enough to play pro at 15s.Finally,look at the fastest player 2 link, it has benny brazell,a former LSU and NFL receiver, and olympic sprinter, his 40yd time,4.3 sec his 40metre,5.1sec.just give it up!
@crjacks84 Wow!! Maybe in the 1970's!!! The world bench press record is over 1,000 pounds. The most recent I found was 1,075, that was in 2008, so I'm sure that's outdated now. I would be willing to bet that that time is no longer valid for ole Benny. And 4.3 is decent in the NFL, nothing truly outstanding...
@BodybuildinginTX Thats an equipped record, its assisted with specially made bench shirts, which give an advantage of over 25%.The 'Raw' record, which is unequipped(just a man on a flat bench,no padded vest),with spotters, and subject to drug testing is 715lbs.If u 'raw' lift 300 you'll do over 360 'equipped'. The 4.3 is irrelevant, its merely an idea of the ratio between the same athlete running a 40yard at the combine and running the 40metre(5.1)on grass carrying a ball, ran at the'ole' age of 27!
@BodybuildinginTX oh and by the way, Larry Allen wouldnt be capable of playing rugby he's far too heavy. There are very few players over 300lbs, its impossible to carry that weight on a rugby pitch for 80 minutes, Allen would keel over and die.He would need to loss at least 30 pounds, probably more. This would severely effect his bench. Just to let you know, Mariusz Pudzianowski, 5 time Worlds strongest man, plays amateur rugby in Lodz,Poland.
@crjacks84 The average distance covered in a rugby match is around 1100 meters in a game (study done by McLean). The average football play covers a distance of 9.1-13.7 meters. Ther's an avereage of 50-70 plays per game per side of the ball. Thats between 500 meters to 960 meters. That's at an all out pace. Rugby there's an average of 2.16 minutes of sprints in a game.( McLean study). Larry Allen could handle himself as he routinely dealt with guys running in the 4.5-4.6 forty range.
@BodybuildinginTX Dont make stuff up. The English union fits players with GPS units to track player movement.distances covered range from 4,450 to 8,200 metres with speeds reaching up to 22.8mph. just go to the rfu.com website and look at the article dated 14 april 2011. Also, Larry Allen was a DT, he could only handle players running north to south(straight ahead) not east-west.Just admit youre wrong, everyone one can see.its a bigger thing to do than making stuff up to support a false theory.
@crjacks84 First off, I cited a study for you, not made up at all. Larry Allen was an offensive lineman, and at every position in some point in his career. being an offensive lineman means you need to be able to move north, south, east and west. I'm not sure how you figure being a defensive lineman means you need to only move forwards... You need to be able to outrun the running back, or out manuvere him. I've provided plenty of evidence as all your" evidence" is false or exaggereated
@BodybuildinginTX Is this study from a college, association etc,or is it the one on bodybuilding, com that states, and,Im quoting verbatim, "this allows them to cover up to six kilometers per game"(6000 metres) and has a citation by McLean from 1992, a 19 yr old study on amateur players.Thats over 5 times what you previously stated. By the way, the one I cited is from the English rugby union(rfu, com)and was done in 2011 with pro players, so is much more valid. Finally, all my stats can be verified.
@BodybuildinginTX PS.ill give you a lesson on humility, which you clearly need. was wrong on Larry Allen, he was not a DT,but played at OL,as you stated. So, I'll admit I was wrong in that instance. It still doesnt take away from the crux of the argument that he wouldnt have the endurance to cope for 80 minutes.Maybe you can start off by admitting that Larry Allens bench of 750(for reps!)was bogus(and none of this bench shirt nonsense)only raw counts as they do in the combine. His record is 700lbs
@crjacks84 You're numbers are correct, for total distance. Not for full speed. Plus rugby is 30 percent longer game. Sp it'd be silly to compare the two for total distances. But for all out speed it is very comparable in that the distances covered in full- out speed are almost identical, even though a rugby game is 30 percent longer. Bogus weights?!! I saw him do it!!! I'm not sure where you go this crap information of him only benching 700, but it's wrong. He never wore a bench shirt...
@BodybuildinginTX I have disproved everything you have come up with. You said 'the average distance covered in a rugby match is 1100 metres". FALSE.You said that Larry Allen benched '750 for reps'. FALSE. you cant verify it with any recorded evidence. You were WRONG comparing 40 times of NFL players to those rugby players above (different distance, surface, a ball and mostly amateurs rather than pro footballers). This is fast becoming like arguing with a 9-11/new world order conspiracy theorist.
@crjacks84 That figure was for all out running, if you paid attention to the last post. Larry Allen has been documented as having benched 760 pounds. It's very simlar in distance, both are run on grass, they're not pro football players at that point, and the ball has nothing to do with anything. I have no idea what those morons claiming 9/11 was a conspiracy has to do with these games at all.
@crjacks84 ignore this loser mate, like most ignorant americans they think that their NFL athletes are the biggest and fastest. heres an article that got one out of say 100million American football fans to shut up. bleacherreport[dot] [com] /articles/495243-rugby-in-america-5-reasons-it-wont-work-in-the-us
@aseroxmilez I just read this article and to be honest, it just came off as any other debate here on youtube about am football vs rugby. Yes the guy who posted the article came off a bit ignorant. Here in sa,tx I had no clue we have had 2 rugby clubs for 20+ yrs because all Ive been exposed to was baskeball, football, etc. A buddy of mine I work with from nzl played rugby league back home and with him I got more into it. My only issue is how am football is constantly put down as a pussy sport.
@aseroxmilez and it seems a bit disrespectful. I want rugby to grow huge here in the states one day, but with the fact that everyone outside the america hates us, then I just cant see it growing here much. No one really knows how an nfl player would fair in rugby with the right training until it happens. But unfortunetly pro athletes here are spoiled and unless playing rugby in america pays millions, chances are we wont see any of our top athletes compete in it.
@91gt306 that article i was linking people to was to show the comments he got back, i'm no hater of AF i've been watching it since i started high school and still to this day watch it. Besides you guys dont need to get NFL athletes you need to grow Rugby athletes. irb[dot]com/unions/union=11000012/index[dot]html will show you how many players you have playing the game from different age groups and genders then compare to Aus similar numbers but you'll see the difference in one category :)
@91gt306 [Part2] you guys need to stop thinking about your nfl players and imagining them converting to rugby. Focus on getting kids growing up playing rugby, and becoming rugby athletes it's no difference. It's just they will be known through playing "Rugby". The avg size of both sports are only widened by the Linemen, Rugby League is where you will see smaller men but that gap is slowly getting smaller, these days the NRL players are getting bigger and faster. thx for reading my blabbering :)
@aseroxmilez Yeah you are 100% right about kids growing up playng rugby. Nfl players are bulit for the sport from playing from child hood to high school college then to nfl, people cant really expect these guys to go out and play rugby and dominate lol. Yeah its growing here and I really wished I had known about it when I was young, I for sure would have loved gorwn up playing it. But since i cant now I try my best to expose rugby to as many young people i come across who are athletes.
@91gt306 [part 3] if you want to see the number statistics of registered players from each gender/age group go into IRB[dot]com then under the "Homes" tab there will be Links, click on "Unions" and it will direct you to the list of countries, choose the USA the numbers suprised me i didnt know so many people are playing rugby :)
American football - 4.50 seconds in the 40-yard dash is "OK" (some players over 250-lb. can run this time, some over 300-lb. have run 4.60-4.70), 4.30 is "very fast"... and some (a very few) are below 4.20...
@zirathekillerlioness so is that without pads because it's a big difference dumbass these guys already have protection on so they're already slowed down have the same guy and have him gain 40 or 50 pounds of muscle and see how fast he can run now? exactly about the same think about certain things before saying it
@zirathekillerlioness This is a 40 METER dash, american football is a 40 YARD dash. A quick calculation and 40 yards = 36.58 meters. They get a faster time by running a shorter distance and also these guys were carrying a ball while doing it, not running freely.
@zirathekillerlioness 40 metres is 36.58 yards so its not the same distance and this is about finding out who the fastest players in rugby are. No doubt there will be faster, Niue are just the first team they have tested. Not to sound racist or arrogant but the the darker they get the faster the times! and thats all sport in general.
@NinosDad11 40 metres is 43.75 yards, you have it the wrong way round. Also, the whole 'darker they get the faster they are' isnt necessarily true, its a bit more complex. the 100 and 200 are dominated by men of west african descent (african-american, afro-caribeans and nigerians). No one of east african descent (kenya, ethiopia etc) has ever run under 10 seconds, nor has a polynesian. The only others to go under 10 are a couple of white guys and an australian of aboriginal and irish descent .
if habana or ngwenya ran in ths, thy might beat th times. depends if theyre top speed peaks at longer than 40m.. their top speed might be faster than th niuean, but th niueans acceleration (being a short distance race) might be faster. could be wrong. who knows
btw i think these are 7s teams?? so it might be different worldwide... none th less, th top is niuean (seen th other vids and hes still top) wohoo!! hope is stays th same lol
Great vid, but people stop arguing what is better, rugby or American football. we can all agree both of them are better than shitty premier league pufftas that play soccer/football!
Urgh, so sick of the American football - rugby argument. American football probably has the fastest player and the hardest hitter but that's because the positions in American football are so much more specialised than in rugby. Although, I suspect rugby players are better all-round athletes.
If I was a football player I would talk shit about rugby considering its where football originally came from. You dont need math to know that. Im a Rugby player i think its better but its not everyones opinion leave it at that
@raachxx Um actually if you read wat i wrote you would know i was talking about the origin of American Football. But thanks for the unneeded history lesson
with all these comparisons between American football and Rugby.. I wonder if Americans know the difference between Rugby League and Rugby Union.. maybe they should search some Rugby League highlights so they can see the difference in "hits". Union may be a more strategic game, but league is definatley harder, and faster. God bless all 3 codes of the oval shaped ball
I play both rugby (winger) and american football (safety). In general, football has harder hits. BUT, the hardest hit I ever took was in rugby. In rugby atheletes tend to have much better cardio. In rugby atheletes have to have more skills they have to be good at, because unlike all american football, rugby player's have to be able to kick, tackle, run, catch etc.
wow i run a 4.7 injured am im 16 i thought i was gonna see amazing times. by the way the comment at the top was the best argument towards rugby being better even though i like football more. but football is more tactical an the fastest 40 is a 4.19 unrecorded and the funny thing is that even line men that are 300+ pounds run 4.8s you have a better chance geting knocked the fuck out in football going up to catch the ball or run the ball than in rugby and thats with pads
My rugby credentials include 27 years playing and 4 years collegiate coaching. My american colleagues enjoy teaching american football players to play rugby because they are big, strong, and sometimes quick but they get yellow carded for stupid things like, blocking and improper tackling. Players with football backgrounds suffer from poor fitness. My best rugby players have played their whole life and I've seen more of them transition pro football than I have seen football transition pro rugby.
@r2d23678 I understand you also super suck at math, but no need to advertise :). Facts are facts, I've seen more in favor of rugby than I have for football. Football has some outstanding athletes, just retarded fans. The average football player IS conditioned for collision not tackling but the average football player does not have the same speed or endurance. No one contests that football players spend a lot of time in the gym lifting weights. My argument stands, do better or shut up.
@RugbeeForLife about the dumbest post I seen all day, congratulations you know absolutely nothing about American Football. Gtfo slow weak rugbeeee player
@RugbeeForLife and who are these rugby players that play football now. any one can make the football team its a 60 to 100 man roster.but are they actually the stars of the team i don't think so. And most football players in America are from humble beginnings and want to make a living for their families. Why would you want to go from a sport if you are good enough to go pro that can pay you from 1-100 million dollars average 1.4 mil , to rugby which the average players make about 300k.
@RugbeeForLife LOL, the only players that go to the NFL from rugby are kickers and a few linemen. Lets look at theplayers of both sports like cars. The NFL has ferrari's, corvettes, Ford f-350 trucks, and tanks. Rugby has Ford Fiestas, f-150 trucks and a few ferrari's. NFL is specialized and an explosive collision sport, rugby is an endurance contact sport. Am football is faster, bigger and stronger. But rugby players have better endurance. US endurance sports are b-ball and hockey.
@Verderestorations. I think a rugby player would last a whole game of American Football player but definitely think the equivalent football player could not play a full 80 minutes of full on rugby.
@Dkwimmsta thats a compliment coming from a noob that thinks american football is not as tough as rugby. Rugby players have endurance. Football players and explosiveness. Rugby has contact, football has collisions by big, stronger and faster players. Amercans know rugby is a good game and hard to play. But you idiots think american football is weak. Rugby players are less than average in size and speed. FACT
@Dkwimmsta check out Adrian Peterson highlight vids here on youtube. 240lbs, 4.4 40, 38 inch vertical and as a running back delivers the hits instead of taking hits.
@Verderestorations Okay, well check out Jonah Lomu, 6'5, 125 kg (or 275.6 lbs), and runs the 100 meters in 10.8 seconds. Yeah, does your running back tackle (play defense) for 90 minutes and kick too? This guy steamrolls and he is an old player and hardly the best. Yawn.
@Verderestorations Sadly, your resources are few so your information is wrong. You need better facts. The argument was that there are more rugby players that transition to football than football players to rugby. Get it? Try again.
@RugbeeForLife but dude no one in America wants to play rugby, thats why you dont see any transitions. Football players are athletes not just a stiff bodybuilder playing a sport like rugby. And the thing about football there are multiple players on the field that run below a 4.5 not just one like rugby. Patrick Willis 6'2 250 ran a 4.3 and he plays linebacker. i bet no one in rugby can play cornerback in football or any skilled positions at that Football is smooth, fast, explosive, and quick
@Verderestorations wrote,"Lets look at theplayers of both sports like cars. The NFL has ferrari's, corvettes, Ford f-350 trucks, and tanks. Rugby has Ford Fiestas, f-150 trucks and a few ferrari's."
WTF does income or cars have to do with the games? So the NFL has more money. Big fuckin deal. Youre sittin here on Youtube comments like a lil bitch talkin about sports u probably dont even play LMFAO
@Verderestorations I just re-read wat u wrote. U makin a comparison if the players were cars. Ok. U say, "Am football is faster, bigger and stronger".... yeah... let some of them players run non-stop for 80 mins & then we`l see how fast or hard they hit durin the last 5 mins of the game. AF players... NO STAMINA.
@r2d23678 Rondel Melendez's 40 yrd dash is 4.24 fastest recorded NFL time. Speed = Distance/Time. 40 yrds = 36.576 mtrs. So speed = 36.576 mtrs (40 yrds)/4.24 sec = 8.626 mtrs/sec or 9.433 yrds/sec.
Toderai Chavanga's (Rugby player) recorded 100m time is 10.27 sec. 100 mtrs = 91.44 yrds. Speed = 91.44 yrds (100 mtrs)/10.27 sec = 8.904 yrds/sec or 9.737 mtrs/sec.
Looks like the football player gains fewer meters and yards per second than the rugby player.
@RugbeeForLife How does that have absolutely anything to do with maths? You should try take the 10 foot pole out of your arse, the world's not out to get you...
alright this debate. which is better NFL or rugby. honestly. If you give a football player time im 100% confident that they could not only compete with rugby players but (as twofiveseveneight said, "mop the floor" with them. but im also completely confident that if you give a rugby player time he could be a contender in the NFL. The sports are quite similar. and the whole thing. rugby players do it w/o getting dressed up. any player in the NFL could take a hit w/o being dressed up.
@MrsLinksbaby i heard there was another wing in france who can outpace ngwenya, but i cant think who... but i'd love to see ngwenya do this, that chap is seriously quick!
they were pretty fast . buh they dnt compare to MIKAELE PESAMINO & TOM IOSEFO ! they both play for thee infamous MANU SAMOA-3 tht would be a good match !
@mmaldon84 That shouldn't be an argument at all. And if it is an argument, it is a very stupid argument. I love American Football being raised in the states but I love Rugby also because my fellow Samoans play it in the islands and in NZ and Aus. And they play it here in the states also. U can't say one is harder than the other because that is just idiotic. Rugby needs more stamina. American Footbal needs more power and explosiveness. That about summons up the differences.
@hundinerf1 Yea but u gotta remember Niueans came from Samoan and Tonga. But I inderstand if ur saying that they are Tongans as in the tongans of today.
lol people please stop arguing about which sport is better american football or rugby because in the end you going around in circles whereas a christian debates with an atheist. ur just talking to wall and will get nothing done. we can draw to a conclusion both are a respectable mans sport thats tough
@Jaram1013 Its nothing like argueing about Christianity and Atheism. 1, because the love of either american football or rugby is just a matter of opinion; and the argument between Christianity and Atheism is one sided as it can be backed up by proven facts and figures. 2, because you would have to be a complete fucking retard to believe in that fairy tale at this day and age.
@MrCharper216 guess im a retard...u can argue whatever you want about either sports or religion, most people like myself are going to stick to their guns.
obviously american footballers are gonna be faster they train to play about 40 second plays and can therefore don't have to do much fitness. Whereas rugby players have play 40 mins without rest and therefore have to do more fitness not just explosiveness and power like footballers
@TheMization Ahh dont know about that buddy. Money he doesnt break sub 4'4. The bst 40 time in NFL is 4.1 by the way. Now that doesn't mean Habana is slower it just means he doesn't train as much as these NFL guys do on the 40 yd dash. 40 yd dash is a bad measure of speed anyways. Game speed is how u really judge how fast somebody is. There's many super fast NFL players though. I'd put Desean Jackson against anybody in the sports world. And everybody knows usain bolt is all by himself in speed
And enough with the rugby is better than football and viceversa!!! Because they're totally two different sports!!! The only hing dat makes dem similar is u can tackle and they play with an oval ball!!! After that they're two different sports!!! Both are great in their own respective ways!!! Born and raised in nz!!! But have resided in football country(TEXAS) for da past 10yrs!!! Love both of dem so

That doesn't seem that fast?I play football.I'm a sophmore in highschool. DE/RB. I run my 40 in 4.62.Soooo what's so impressive about them?
WizFanClan77 3 months ago
@WizFanClan77 sure you do...
Rigahawk 3 months ago
@WizFanClan77 Couple of things, is this with ball in hand? I doubt it. Also the 40 you run is 40 yards - these guys were doing 40 m = 44 yards (extrapolating your time it would take you 5.08s). Finally, these guys wouldn't even make a provincial team in NZ, Niue is a nothing team. Most international wingers will run this a hell of a lot faster (and faster than most NFL RBs)
pubuman 3 months ago
@pubuman All true, but not a chance would they run it faster than the fastest NFL players, RB's or not. In fact WR's and CB's get the fastest times anyway, around 4.3 being really impressive. But the RB's are getting 4.4 or 4.5.
Snortthesweetener 3 months ago
@Snortthesweetener Joe Rokocoko (former All Black, who has fairly slow acceleration in regards to other backs in the international game) ran the 40m in 4.66 which equates to a time of around 4.23s for 40 yards. (A very rough calculation - I would say its a bit slower). So I think there is a very good chance that they would at least be equally fast as NFL players, but with the endurance to boot ...
pubuman 3 months ago
@Snortthesweetener One of the fastest recorded 40m times I have found for a rugby player is 4.53s, which equates to 4.11s for 40yrds. The fastest ever recorded split over 40m (that I know of) is Ben Johnson at 4.38s (but that was a flying split).
pubuman 3 months ago
@pubuman I highly doubt that, a 4.11 for a 40 is ridiculous, the fatest sport player in the world doesn't run that...
Taluglalom837 3 weeks ago
@Taluglalom837 As I stated the fastest 40m split ever recorded is by Ben Johnson, at 4.38s, which equates to 3.98s over 40yards - so you are wrong, the fastest sportsmen run it a lot faster!
pubuman 3 weeks ago
@WizFanClan77 Did you count in yards? Because Rugby uses the metric system, therefore they run how ever many metres.

Cephaeus 4 months ago 2
@RheinhardtP football players are much faster, stronger, and hit way harder. No, a rugby player would never make the team, because they are too slow, too weak, and hit like pussies. Granted, every once in a while, there will be a shocker, but nothing like the hits in football. Nonstop? Have you ever watched or played rugby? Waiting for the scrum, waiting for the ruck to play out, waiting for the line out. Just because the time clock doesn't stop, doesn't make the game itself nonstop.
BodybuildinginTX 4 months ago
@BodybuildinginTX do you have any stats to back that up or is it just conjecture. Here is some facts you may not like. Vernon Davis, widely considered the best athlete in the NFL, weighs 250 and ran a 10.7 in high school. Lesley Vainikolo, a rugby wing, weighs 245 and ran 10.6 at the same age. Jonah Lomu weighed 270 at 18 and ran a 10.7. Pierre Spies, the springbok backrower, weighs over 240, runs a 10.7 and has a vertical in excess of 44''. Just type Tuigali and see how hard rugby players are.
crjacks84 4 months ago in playlist Rugby
@crjacks84 Look at any linebacker. All are in the 240-260 range and have 40 yard times (roughly 36 meters) so pretty close for comparison. Just recently, a competition was held in rugby to dtermine the fastest player in rugby. The fastes times were in the low 5 seconds range. An average linebacker runs the forty in 4.5-4.7 range. An average offensive lineman weighs well over 300 pounds and yet still runs the forty in less than 5 seconds. Larry Allen (325 pounds) benched over 750 pounds for reps!
BodybuildinginTX 4 months ago
@BodybuildinginTX youre wrong. First of, the world bench press record is 713lbs,so the Larry Allen thing is bogus.Second, the rugby sprint you referred to above is 40metres (44 yards)on grass with a ball in hand.Third, those arent elite rugby players, theyre rugby 7's players, most of whom arent good enough to play pro at 15s.Finally,look at the fastest player 2 link, it has benny brazell,a former LSU and NFL receiver, and olympic sprinter, his 40yd time,4.3 sec his 40metre,5.1sec.just give it up!
crjacks84 4 months ago
@crjacks84 Wow!! Maybe in the 1970's!!! The world bench press record is over 1,000 pounds. The most recent I found was 1,075, that was in 2008, so I'm sure that's outdated now. I would be willing to bet that that time is no longer valid for ole Benny. And 4.3 is decent in the NFL, nothing truly outstanding...
BodybuildinginTX 4 months ago
@BodybuildinginTX Thats an equipped record, its assisted with specially made bench shirts, which give an advantage of over 25%.The 'Raw' record, which is unequipped(just a man on a flat bench,no padded vest),with spotters, and subject to drug testing is 715lbs.If u 'raw' lift 300 you'll do over 360 'equipped'. The 4.3 is irrelevant, its merely an idea of the ratio between the same athlete running a 40yard at the combine and running the 40metre(5.1)on grass carrying a ball, ran at the'ole' age of 27!
crjacks84 4 months ago
@BodybuildinginTX oh and by the way, Larry Allen wouldnt be capable of playing rugby he's far too heavy. There are very few players over 300lbs, its impossible to carry that weight on a rugby pitch for 80 minutes, Allen would keel over and die.He would need to loss at least 30 pounds, probably more. This would severely effect his bench. Just to let you know, Mariusz Pudzianowski, 5 time Worlds strongest man, plays amateur rugby in Lodz,Poland.
crjacks84 4 months ago
@crjacks84 The average distance covered in a rugby match is around 1100 meters in a game (study done by McLean). The average football play covers a distance of 9.1-13.7 meters. Ther's an avereage of 50-70 plays per game per side of the ball. Thats between 500 meters to 960 meters. That's at an all out pace. Rugby there's an average of 2.16 minutes of sprints in a game.( McLean study). Larry Allen could handle himself as he routinely dealt with guys running in the 4.5-4.6 forty range.
BodybuildinginTX 4 months ago
@BodybuildinginTX Dont make stuff up. The English union fits players with GPS units to track player movement.distances covered range from 4,450 to 8,200 metres with speeds reaching up to 22.8mph. just go to the rfu.com website and look at the article dated 14 april 2011. Also, Larry Allen was a DT, he could only handle players running north to south(straight ahead) not east-west.Just admit youre wrong, everyone one can see.its a bigger thing to do than making stuff up to support a false theory.
crjacks84 4 months ago
@crjacks84 First off, I cited a study for you, not made up at all. Larry Allen was an offensive lineman, and at every position in some point in his career. being an offensive lineman means you need to be able to move north, south, east and west. I'm not sure how you figure being a defensive lineman means you need to only move forwards... You need to be able to outrun the running back, or out manuvere him. I've provided plenty of evidence as all your" evidence" is false or exaggereated
BodybuildinginTX 4 months ago
@BodybuildinginTX Is this study from a college, association etc,or is it the one on bodybuilding, com that states, and,Im quoting verbatim, "this allows them to cover up to six kilometers per game"(6000 metres) and has a citation by McLean from 1992, a 19 yr old study on amateur players.Thats over 5 times what you previously stated. By the way, the one I cited is from the English rugby union(rfu, com)and was done in 2011 with pro players, so is much more valid. Finally, all my stats can be verified.
crjacks84 4 months ago
@BodybuildinginTX PS.ill give you a lesson on humility, which you clearly need. was wrong on Larry Allen, he was not a DT,but played at OL,as you stated. So, I'll admit I was wrong in that instance. It still doesnt take away from the crux of the argument that he wouldnt have the endurance to cope for 80 minutes.Maybe you can start off by admitting that Larry Allens bench of 750(for reps!)was bogus(and none of this bench shirt nonsense)only raw counts as they do in the combine. His record is 700lbs
crjacks84 4 months ago
@crjacks84 You're numbers are correct, for total distance. Not for full speed. Plus rugby is 30 percent longer game. Sp it'd be silly to compare the two for total distances. But for all out speed it is very comparable in that the distances covered in full- out speed are almost identical, even though a rugby game is 30 percent longer. Bogus weights?!! I saw him do it!!! I'm not sure where you go this crap information of him only benching 700, but it's wrong. He never wore a bench shirt...
BodybuildinginTX 4 months ago
@BodybuildinginTX I have disproved everything you have come up with. You said 'the average distance covered in a rugby match is 1100 metres". FALSE.You said that Larry Allen benched '750 for reps'. FALSE. you cant verify it with any recorded evidence. You were WRONG comparing 40 times of NFL players to those rugby players above (different distance, surface, a ball and mostly amateurs rather than pro footballers). This is fast becoming like arguing with a 9-11/new world order conspiracy theorist.
crjacks84 4 months ago
@crjacks84 That figure was for all out running, if you paid attention to the last post. Larry Allen has been documented as having benched 760 pounds. It's very simlar in distance, both are run on grass, they're not pro football players at that point, and the ball has nothing to do with anything. I have no idea what those morons claiming 9/11 was a conspiracy has to do with these games at all.

91gt306 4 months ago
@aseroxmilez and it seems a bit disrespectful. I want rugby to grow huge here in the states one day, but with the fact that everyone outside the america hates us, then I just cant see it growing here much. No one really knows how an nfl player would fair in rugby with the right training until it happens. But unfortunetly pro athletes here are spoiled and unless playing rugby in america pays millions, chances are we wont see any of our top athletes compete in it.
91gt306 4 months ago
@91gt306 that article i was linking people to was to show the comments he got back, i'm no hater of AF i've been watching it since i started high school and still to this day watch it. Besides you guys dont need to get NFL athletes you need to grow Rugby athletes. irb[dot]com/unions/union=11000012/index[dot]html will show you how many players you have playing the game from different age groups and genders then compare to Aus similar numbers but you'll see the difference in one category :)
aseroxmilez 4 months ago
@91gt306 [Part2] you guys need to stop thinking about your nfl players and imagining them converting to rugby. Focus on getting kids growing up playing rugby, and becoming rugby athletes it's no difference. It's just they will be known through playing "Rugby". The avg size of both sports are only widened by the Linemen, Rugby League is where you will see smaller men but that gap is slowly getting smaller, these days the NRL players are getting bigger and faster. thx for reading my blabbering :)
aseroxmilez 4 months ago
@aseroxmilez Yeah you are 100% right about kids growing up playng rugby. Nfl players are bulit for the sport from playing from child hood to high school college then to nfl, people cant really expect these guys to go out and play rugby and dominate lol. Yeah its growing here and I really wished I had known about it when I was young, I for sure would have loved gorwn up playing it. But since i cant now I try my best to expose rugby to as many young people i come across who are athletes.

American football - 4.50 seconds in the 40-yard dash is "OK" (some players over 250-lb. can run this time, some over 300-lb. have run 4.60-4.70), 4.30 is "very fast"... and some (a very few) are below 4.20...

@zirathekillerlioness so is that without pads because it's a big difference dumbass these guys already have protection on so they're already slowed down have the same guy and have him gain 40 or 50 pounds of muscle and see how fast he can run now? exactly about the same think about certain things before saying it
Rochambeau1000 6 months ago
@zirathekillerlioness This is a 40 METER dash, american football is a 40 YARD dash. A quick calculation and 40 yards = 36.58 meters. They get a faster time by running a shorter distance and also these guys were carrying a ball while doing it, not running freely.
SerasRocks 5 months ago
@zirathekillerlioness 40 metres is 36.58 yards so its not the same distance and this is about finding out who the fastest players in rugby are. No doubt there will be faster, Niue are just the first team they have tested. Not to sound racist or arrogant but the the darker they get the faster the times! and thats all sport in general.
NinosDad11 4 months ago
@NinosDad11 40 metres is 43.75 yards, you have it the wrong way round. Also, the whole 'darker they get the faster they are' isnt necessarily true, its a bit more complex. the 100 and 200 are dominated by men of west african descent (african-american, afro-caribeans and nigerians). No one of east african descent (kenya, ethiopia etc) has ever run under 10 seconds, nor has a polynesian. The only others to go under 10 are a couple of white guys and an australian of aboriginal and irish descent .

@RugbeeForLife and who are these rugby players that play football now. any one can make the football team its a 60 to 100 man roster.but are they actually the stars of the team i don't think so. And most football players in America are from humble beginnings and want to make a living for their families. Why would you want to go from a sport if you are good enough to go pro that can pay you from 1-100 million dollars average 1.4 mil , to rugby which the average players make about 300k.
lmcoog20011 8 months ago
@RugbeeForLife LOL, the only players that go to the NFL from rugby are kickers and a few linemen. Lets look at theplayers of both sports like cars. The NFL has ferrari's, corvettes, Ford f-350 trucks, and tanks. Rugby has Ford Fiestas, f-150 trucks and a few ferrari's. NFL is specialized and an explosive collision sport, rugby is an endurance contact sport. Am football is faster, bigger and stronger. But rugby players have better endurance. US endurance sports are b-ball and hockey.
Verderestorations 9 months ago
@Verderestorations. I think a rugby player would last a whole game of American Football player but definitely think the equivalent football player could not play a full 80 minutes of full on rugby.

@Dkwimmsta thats a compliment coming from a noob that thinks american football is not as tough as rugby. Rugby players have endurance. Football players and explosiveness. Rugby has contact, football has collisions by big, stronger and faster players. Amercans know rugby is a good game and hard to play. But you idiots think american football is weak. Rugby players are less than average in size and speed. FACT

Yawn.
RugbeeForLife 9 months ago
@Verderestorations Sadly, your resources are few so your information is wrong. You need better facts. The argument was that there are more rugby players that transition to football than football players to rugby. Get it? Try again.
RugbeeForLife 9 months ago
@RugbeeForLife but dude no one in America wants to play rugby, thats why you dont see any transitions. Football players are athletes not just a stiff bodybuilder playing a sport like rugby. And the thing about football there are multiple players on the field that run below a 4.5 not just one like rugby. Patrick Willis 6'2 250 ran a 4.3 and he plays linebacker. i bet no one in rugby can play cornerback in football or any skilled positions at that Football is smooth, fast, explosive, and quick

@r2d23678 Rondel Melendez's 40 yrd dash is 4.24 fastest recorded NFL time. Speed = Distance/Time. 40 yrds = 36.576 mtrs. So speed = 36.576 mtrs (40 yrds)/4.24 sec = 8.626 mtrs/sec or 9.433 yrds/sec.
Toderai Chavanga's (Rugby player) recorded 100m time is 10.27 sec. 100 mtrs = 91.44 yrds. Speed = 91.44 yrds (100 mtrs)/10.27 sec = 8.904 yrds/sec or 9.737 mtrs/sec.
Looks like the football player gains fewer meters and yards per second than the rugby player.

Even over 100 metres, you get tired towards the end and slow down.... Fool...

@Derilot Yeah I get it, you super suck at math.
RugbeeForLife 9 months ago

@WesWood84 It's in meters stupid
anybodykilla92 10 months ago
@WesWood84 Its actually 44 yards, because it is metres not yards. Might not sound like alot but it can be a solid half a second.
caniwatchavidplz 10 months ago
@WesWood84 metres and yards are different though aren't they?

Football and rugby should not be a comparison. Rugby is much harder hands down.
mmaldon84 1 year ago
@mmaldon84 That shouldn't be an argument at all. And if it is an argument, it is a very stupid argument. I love American Football being raised in the states but I love Rugby also because my fellow Samoans play it in the islands and in NZ and Aus. And they play it here in the states also. U can't say one is harder than the other because that is just idiotic. Rugby needs more stamina. American Footbal needs more power and explosiveness. That about summons up the differences.

lol people please stop arguing about which sport is better american football or rugby because in the end you going around in circles whereas a christian debates with an atheist. ur just talking to wall and will get nothing done. we can draw to a conclusion both are a respectable mans sport thats tough
Jaram1013 1 year ago
@Jaram1013 Its nothing like argueing about Christianity and Atheism. 1, because the love of either american football or rugby is just a matter of opinion; and the argument between Christianity and Atheism is one sided as it can be backed up by proven facts and figures. 2, because you would have to be a complete fucking retard to believe in that fairy tale at this day and age.
MrCharper216 1 year ago
@MrCharper216 guess im a retard...u can argue whatever you want about either sports or religion, most people like myself are going to stick to their guns.
vachamps 1 year ago
obviously american footballers are gonna be faster they train to play about 40 second plays and can therefore don't have to do much fitness. Whereas rugby players have play 40 mins without rest and therefore have to do more fitness not just explosiveness and power like footballers

@TheMization he got smoked by nygwenya in the world cup lol
lapatoa 1 year ago
@TheMization Ahh dont know about that buddy. Money he doesnt break sub 4'4. The bst 40 time in NFL is 4.1 by the way. Now that doesn't mean Habana is slower it just means he doesn't train as much as these NFL guys do on the 40 yd dash. 40 yd dash is a bad measure of speed anyways. Game speed is how u really judge how fast somebody is. There's many super fast NFL players though. I'd put Desean Jackson against anybody in the sports world. And everybody knows usain bolt is all by himself in speed
samoantoa08 1 year ago
And enough with the rugby is better than football and viceversa!!! Because they're totally two different sports!!! The only hing dat makes dem similar is u can tackle and they play with an oval ball!!! After that they're two different sports!!! Both are great in their own respective ways!!! Born and raised in nz!!! But have resided in football country(TEXAS) for da past 10yrs!!! Love both of dem so
