God the Fleta guitar he's playing here sounds so much better than the Smallman guitars he plays now. It's just my opinion but the Smallmans really have a kind of nasal or banjo like tone just to the back of the palette that I can't quite get over.
"... as a guitarist/composer, Barrios is the best of the lot, regardless of ear. His music is better formed, it's more poetic, it's more everything! And it's more of all those things in a timeless way. So I think he's a more significant composer than Sor or Guiliani, and more significant composer --- for the guitar --- than Villa-Lobos."
part B has some different notes to the Barrios original recording. But not a big deal. All the top guitarists play it differently,it seems. It's not as difficult a tune to play as you might think.
if you wanto to listen one of the best in world you must listen luz maria bobadilla, she is from paraguay.. guess she is mangore daughter, cause she play so good
@biacomas You should listen to the original recording of Barrios, its played almost exactly the way he plays it. Berta Rojas does do a magnificent job at this song. Go type in youtube " danza paraguaya agustin barrios"
and you will find about near the end of the first page a video with about 300 views, that's Barrios Himself playing. Check it out!
@percey Maxixa is actually not that hard, I can play that song very swiftly, but other songs like La Catedral, are much harder that those two you mentioned.
Williams is a rock 'n' roll generation guitar player. You can tell in his approach. It may be subtle, but he's rockin' out! This new approach has brought many of us to know classical and hear other more traditional modes. I can intellectually appreciate the others, but Williams "moves" me! Arsenio-

at 1:40 did he silenced the guitar by himself? It sounds like the sound was off for a sec.

I never thought I'd had to say this 'cause I'm a huge fan of JW, but the best version here on YT of this Danza is from Maestro Cesar.

this and Maxixe are two of the most challenging Barrios pieces for anybody to attempt, even JW.

This is the very FIRST time I am not inpressed with JW. I think he has missed the essence of this song. But of course everyone can have bad days.

@goph999 listen to the original recording of Barrios himself playing this song, Williams plays it almost to the tee.

Agustin Barrios the genius!!!
His compositions as huge birds flying to boundless space.
John Viljams the professional of a high class.
