A fascinating name, Audley Freed, and poetic. I would guess an English name? And a great amp, the Germino. What is really great, however, is Mr. Freed's playing. I'll bet it's not just the chord changes that make this demo so fun to listen to but the wonderful tone Freed achieves. His choice of guitars is something, also. It doesn't seem to matter whether he's playing Tele or Les Paul, Freed shares marvelous tone. What a fine player!!
Same here I am obsessed. And what makes it more elusive is the fact that he's so cool he doesn't even have a website. I have the first cry of love album on heavy rotation in my car at present.
Could someone post the equipment specs for recording rig used in this Fat Sound videos (specifically the mic on the amp)? Curious because the sound of them is some of the best sound quality I've heard outside of Pro Guitar Shop.
Hi, the thing Audley plays between 2:34 to 3:04 - does anyone know if that is part from a song? Wonderful harmonies, but Im struggling learning it - it would be nice with a second reference to learn from. Anyone - please help!
a 50W amp with two greenbacks? Isn't that much for those G12Ms? They are really pushed to their limits. I wouldn't run more than 15-18W into a single greenback (that means 30W-36W for two) for safety reasons.
A G12M is rated @ 25W. Yes. BUT it's not good to constantly keep pushing it to it's limits. If you want a G12M to live longer, then you don't want more than 15W into each one. That's already pushing the speaker very hard.
In fact, a 50W amp means that it's 50W when it's clean! If you crank it into overdrive, a 50W EL34 amp will typically give you something around 70 watts total power. That's 35 watts for a greenback. It will survive, but it's not the best thing you can do to a speaker...
A 50W marshall would typically go with one 4x12 with greenbacks. That's a good balance between speaker lifetime and tone. If you don't push a speaker enough, it may not have the tone you want. But if you push it too much, it will die pretty soon.
So a 50W marshall with a 100W cab is a perfect match IMO, because it has the right balance of these two things.
Let me tell you something about ratings: a marshall-style amp like this is rated for 50W isn't it? Well, if dime it to 10, it puts out about 70W (almost 80W if it's biased hot). So each speaker is getting about 35W when on full volume on the amp!!! Actually a single greenback (rated at 25W!!) CAN in fact stand 35W, but it will die a lot earlier. If you want a greenback to last longer, you don't want to send more than 20W into it.
Ratings are good but actual wattages are a different story
I can only imagine the "Tube Rattle" that will come out of the Tube Array being right over the Top of the 12's...man! Combo=Tube Torture! However, the Tone is Superb!
@harlesslee $2650.00 is correct for the 2x12 combo with the preferred non-Heritage speakers. You can find all current pricing info on Greg's website as well as on mine. Thanks.
That is one of the most AMAZING sounding amps I have ever heard!!! I wonder if Audley Freed talent is an add-on option if I were to buy the amp??? haha
@RockDude654 That's a Shure SM7B close mic'd and there's also a Cascade FatHead 2 with Lundhal transformer upgrade out in the room to capture more of what the ear hears.
the BEST youtube demo vid EVER!!! Sensational, please do more when you can... man can that guy play! This demo sealed my fate in buying a club 40!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!! absolutely fantastic!! if only the amp came with that guys hands!!! ;)
@lukestar07 Thanks for the enthusiastic and kind comments. We have videos scheduled non-stop so there are more to come. Subscribe to our channel for notifications when new videos are uploaded! Thanks, Stu - Fat Sound Guitars
@tonetowne67 Thanks for the comment! Glad you enjoyed the vid. We'd love to post more, but we have several amps lined up to have videos done over the next few months and, Audley had a narrow window between gigs so I don't think he'll be available again any time soon.
You can call Germino or myself (Stu) at Fat Sound and we can easily walk you through the differences between the amps.
Sounds killer with any guitar, although I think the P90's really work well with this amp.
Nice tasteful playing .
