The town I recently moved to smells like vomit and dog food (We have a dog food plant and a corn processing plant here) It stinks to high heaven and going to some parts of town literally make me want to puke. It's actually forbidden in many hotels in parts of Southeast Asia. I did eat some but I can't say I'd choose it over any other fruit, and she was right - DON'T BURP. Still, many people truly like it and I know of at least one Peace Corp volunteer who likes it so much you don't ever want to get between her and fresh durian!

I've never actually seen or smelled a Durian fruit before, as none of the stores here in Lubbock stock up on it. I did read an article about it, however. My senses could be set up like this woman's, meaning that it could smell like sh*t and taste pretty darn good. Could be extremely pleasant to both senses, could also be quite the opposite. The smell and taste of the Durian is different for each person.
