If you like Johnny Rivers' cover of this tune then by all means check out the Willie Dixon version (also on youtube), FANTASTIC to say the least! Willie makes Johnny sound like Pat Boone by comparison.
Mustang Sally checking in. The 7th Grand-son has arrived!!! One month early, Kicking & screaming, and peeing on the nurse during his first a few seconds of life!!! He
s doing just fine. Here's his name. Get this, Stanley Cupp!!! We live in SE Michigan. Look out RED WINGS, here he comes!!!!
My "X" husband & I had a very dear friend that was a 7th son. He was also a door-gunner durung thr Viet Nam war. Hehad 6 sons of his own, never made it to the 7th. Well my X & I are exspecting our 11th grandchild in Novemver. He will be the 7th Grand-son!!! I wonder if this song could apply to grand-kids as well? Anyways, Grandma Sally here is going to make sure he is aware of it and all the other great music we have on this BLUE planet we call Earth!
I suppose you realize they won't let this guy into the "rock and roll hall of fame" cause jan wenner of rolling stone magazine black balls him. why? cause wenner once did an interview with phil spector in which spector used johnny rivers as an example of someone he didn't consider to be enough of an artiste. spector is now doing life for murder. wonderful reasoning, wonderful guy, jann the weiner.
Thanks for the heads up on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame issue. Does the public have ANY input on who the nomenies are? Does the PUBLIC, the ppl that actually buy all the music even have a vote? If not, it should be so!!! Think I'll give them a jingle and see what light they can shed on the subject!!!
@TheMustangsally75 I wish you would. it's really unacceptable. johnny rivers did infinitely more for early rock than jann wenner or rolling stone magazine. when i saw him in person he even played a lot of his own lead guitar--very, very cool with a huge voice.
I was sure he was in the rock'n roll hall of fame....as I recall keith richard inducted him in by calling him one of the ten best rock guitarists he ever knew.
After a day of catching crawfish out in the delta, we would drive back to Oakland listening to Giants baseball. This was one of the "booster songs" that KSFO would play during breaks in the game. I wish that I was back in those times!
I'm 30 and listen to more of this older stuff than newer stuff. The thing with this older stuff is it was raw, it was fun, and you could clearly understand it. The men sounded olike men and the women sounded like women. Most of it could be related to easily. It was about the music and not the grammy. PLUS if you are into old hotrods and classic cars like me... this stuff is what you cruise to! Just crank it up and go :) Got a 66 Ford PU myself (and other projects)
@yardtechbrando Amen bro!! I am about twice your age and I was there cruising to this stuff in my 60 Impala. It truly was alot better back then when there were no cellphones or Muslims.
I truly love the Johnny Rivers music, songs, and sound. Chuck Berry, Elvis, etc., sang many of the same songs, But Johnny Rivers had a distinct sound, as did Elvis and Chuck Berry. They all had their distinct sound, and signature songs. With Johnny Rivers, it was Secret Agent Man and Seventh Son, that were his trade mark songs and sound, as well as Memphis, which everyone sang. Music from the 50's, to the 60's, to the early 70's, will never be as good again.!!
Love Johnny Rivers and this is a good version, but but it lacks the grittyness of Howlin' Wolf, the solid guitar of Hubert Sumlin and the rhythm of Willie Dixon the composer. There is room for more than one style and it's personal taste, but I have to give the edge to Wolf.
Great uptempo song for new guitarists to play along with. The verse is all E and the chorus is A E B7 A E. The E to B7 transition is a little challenging, but the song makes it enjoyable practice. Have fun.
This is another classic song I wrote for Johnnie Rivers in my infancy in 1965. I love the "Mid-60's" Sound that's been on the radio since my generation was born until the twenty-tens-this decade. Last decade had to be referred to as the "Two Thousands until we can refer to the early twenties in 2024... Dan O'Niallain, Grafton, Ma.
All right I found the song I heared. It's very good. Now I know the title and artist. The Internet is indeed a wonderful refrence tool. The pictures were wiered. Some looked like they were done by Salvador Dali and Vincent Van Gough. I like the earth in the hands the best. (2:39)
Dear Viewer: Probably one of the Whiskey-A-Go-Go most legendary intimit performers in front of hundreds or 10's of thousands of satisfied fans. Dan K., Grafton, Mass.
yeah johnny is pretty damned spry in condert still. Just saw him not too long ago. Hit after hit. My wife kept asking. He did this one too?? man he is good.
Johnny kicks ass and that's from a Jerry Lee fan.Johnny tried to keep true rockin alive in the 60's in the face of the British invasion and the acid so called rockers.
yes johnny covered alot of songs that were already done by others, he still rocks and plays one hell of a guitar, his double cd greatest hits is great
realmente esta musica me lleva a recuerdos extraordinarios que nunca volveran pero que los disfrute en todo su apogeo, por lo que significaba la vida de juventud que vivia, entre amigos y amigas de la escuela, saludos.
hey like i just said used to dance to this song when i babysitted and the mom's would get mad when the babies would wake up at night and they would have to get up and play the music i played during the day for the babies.....lol
the songs johnny rivers recorded, whether he did them first or not were HIS because of his unique voice and the feeling he put into them. for me, it was never about the songs anyway, it was his wonderful voice, full of genuine emotion and so undeniably sexy that made me a fan for life. billy joel certainly belongs in the hall of fame but his songs never gripped me the way that johnny's rendition of tracks of my tears, baby i need your lovin' or his own poor side of town still do.
I agree that he had some good songs but not a career that will stand the test of time - just like Billy Joel who is a fine entertainer and wrote some good songs but not a musician deserving of hall of fame status. Ok, let the calumny rain down on me.
Won't stand the test of time? That's funny, the song came out in 1965 (44 years ago) and you just listened to this song yesterday. Think about it. If that's not standing the test of time, I don't know what is. And did you mean calamity?? Just wondering.
