  • 2 for protection because you're too tough,,, WTF?

  • I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback cross with a Rottweiller, there amazing.

  • @shinbetUK...suk my B@#$s jack ass

  • Awwww... I miss my ridgeback Ceaser! He's back at home, while I'm studying. My best friend he is, I grew him since he was a pup. I'm 18 now and he is 6 years old. Every time I go outside, he never leaves me, stays right by my side. Friendly, devoted and cute. But don't make him angry - he loses it, especially any taste of blood...

  • These dogs are awsome. Im 14 years old, and me and my mum are going to get one. But they are pretty expensive. They cost like 3000$ here in Norway. Pure bred of course.

  • The best breed in the world, im hugging my 6 months old rhodesian ridgeback

  • @POLLOLOKO4123 I disagree, there a very good breed but the american pitbull terrier is the best.

  • @surleyguru el gusto se rompe en generos, cheers

  • protection gets 5 PIECES OF STAKE WHEN IT COMES TO THIS DOG!

  • @pennyferret77 Totally agree with you! This dogs were bred to hunt lions...

  • I really want a great Dane but I also just fell in love with this dog

  • this dog is very good at guard even the female´s rock

  • Comment removed

  • They are nothing but muscle, i hunt hogs with them there bad ass dogs, 4 of them on a hog that hog goes no where

  • @Broomer1234 - What the Hell are you talking about fat? These dogs are all Pure MUSCLE!

  • Those RR's are FAT!

  • @broomer1234 no sir your blind.

  • I met one of these one time, and it was by far one of the most intimidating dogs Ive seen. And I have bred large American Bulldogs.

  • @Stunr99 why do you say that? =)

  • @RubasJLeone They are bigger than I thought, and its bark is like thunder.

  • @Stunr99 oh...yeah! i have to agree, i saw one when i was 16, and yes, they are imponent dogs!

  • @RubasJLeone This one was I saw was prob 130-140lbs, tall, and had yellow eyes. It WAS NOT vicious, but that dog let you know , "this is my turf."

  • The protection rating is bullshit...a dog expect to defend humans from lions would protect him /her from other threats too..even breeds subtle as Labradors go in to body guard mode...the ratings are a joke on the audacity of this breed..wat a shame..and health rating too...donno how many dogs are gonna be compatible with harsh climate like that of africa....

  • @anithsand2

    Guessing you were born stupid!

  • I have a beautiful rhodesian ridgeback mix. Check her out on my page =D.

This is the best dog breed out there.

  • What do you guys think I should name my future Ridgeback? Ratchet after the Autobot or Lombax or Rodimus after yet another Autobot?

  • my gran had a rhodesian ridgeback called mollie in africa, she said she was a gentle giant and used to let my mom ride on her back <3

  • I doubt most of today's RR can bay a lion. The breed line has not been naturally culled in over 100 years.

  • You should be able to make out the ribs when a RR is at hunting weight. These fat sausage dogs would be out of gas if they had to stay with a horse all day. They look about as agile as a winter pig. Delete this video or change the name to "Fat Ridgebacks"

  • @sml411 I agree. These are fat pigs. They need a serious diet. I look for a little rib, as you say, and alter their food accordingly. I have had many ridgebacks over the years. Currently 2 at the moment...a 10 year old and 9 month old. I would not have any other breed. Great with children. The 9 month old is a natural watch dog. She checks all the rooms in the house before we go to bed at night....amazing breed.

  • emileo115, yes they are FAT. How they got on this show is a crime. All viewers read this "They do not TACKLE lions" they harass big game until the hunter arrives. Closing in on a lion is always fatal. They are NOT a fighting breed as they work as a pack to bay large game but can work solo on smaller game.

  • emileo115, yes they are FAT. How they got on this show is a crime.

  • sadly this 2 RR are too fat, i keep mine thin and their are extraordinary faster and agiles, these breed its extraordinary

  • @emileo115 , RR is not a fast dog. Stamina, distance and agility are paramount.

  • @sml411 They ´re very fast. why you say they are´nt? this is one of the fastest breed. 65km/h. Also the endurance is a quality but they are really fast.

  • @emileo115 - read the breed standard "fair speed". They look like they can run really fast but they cannot.

  • @sml411 i run on a truck with my RR besides and it run 60 km/h no matter what the standar says they are fast dog. i read it in many books. the breed standar is based on dalmatians, perhaps they don´t put this caracteristic on the standar.

  • @emileo115 Many sight hounds run down their prey with pure speed but the RR does not because it does not possess enough speed. Greyhounds, Irish wolf hound and whippets are fast, the RR, not so much.

  • @sml411 ok, i´m agree. i read the standar and its as you says.

  • the Ridgies in the vid are overfed.

  • zimbabwe all day everday

  • My Rhodesian is a ridgeless, and he just turned 10. We've had him since he was a pup and to date he has been a pure joy. He is perfect around kids and does very well with all sizes of other dogs. He grew up with a Pomeranian and 3 children. I've had to keep him from other animals as he is a cat killer and isn't great around small puppies. He doesn't intend to hurt them he just doesn't understand that at 115lbs he is too powerful.

  • RHodesian ridgebacks are bred on a diformaty called spina bifida,!

It serves no usefull purpose at all!

It can cause all kinds of diseases, and the ones born without a ridge are put to death!

The Rhodesian ridgeback should be renamed to Rhodesian's and a make a law against that simple minded non sense, of building a breed on a diformaty what canb cause all kinds of diseases!

See this link on you tube : Rhodesian Ridgeback or just dogs bred with spinabifida?

  • @LewisTheDogue are you talking seriously? do you know what a spina bifida is? its got nothing to do with hair in the back.

  • THE RIDGE ON THE RIDGE BACK IS A DIFORMATY!

IT IS CALLED " SPINA BIFIDA" .

THE RIDGEBACK'S WITHOUT A RIDGE IS THE HEALTHY ONE!

STOP THIS NON SENSE AND RENAME THEM INTO " RHODEASIAN"S ".

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS DOCUMANTRY ON YOU TUBE CALLED:

    " PEDIGREE DOGS EXPOSED "

    " PEDIGREE DOGS EXPOSED ".

  • @LewisTheDogue - it is a cowlick and not spina bifida. Stop spreading mis-information. Slickbacks (ridgeless Rhodesians) do not get dermoid sinus. Other than that they are perfectly healthy with the ridge.

  • I really want two of these beautiful dogs, but I'm only 16, not allowed to have a dog. So I'm waiting till I move out in two years. I'll be living in Central London in a flat with two other friends and a Sphyx cat xD

The only worrys I have is lack of excersize? I'll walk it twice a day everyday! Let them off the leesh in parks and stuff, and the cold weather, these dogs can withstand unbelievable hot tempratures, but I'm not sure about the cold?? As t does snow it London :/

  • @AmazinPurpleButerfly they're great in all weather conditions, as it shows in the video - we've got a ten year old girl, she's chunky now as my mum can't walk her (i don't live at home any more) but she's perfectly happy around the house, and always has been - so even if she's up for a stroll in sub zero temps, it doesn't matter if you're not - only word of caution is start with ONE!! these dogs are so smart they analyze the worth of any task, so they're hard work and you have to be firm

  • @chez300 Yhh im briliant with dogs, my next door neighbor had a adolescent staffie that he couldn't handle because he lived in a one room flat and couldn't walk her. And I stepped in and walked her everyday, by the end of the month she was walking next to me off the leash and she new all the basic commands such as sit, gimme the paw and stay :)

So I'm not worried about training the dogs, but then again they are a hyper breed... But thank you (:

  • @AmazinPurpleButerfly WTF are you talking about? This the RR dog not the Staffie!!!

  • @AmazinPurpleButerfly - please rethink getting a dog until you're married with family or at least out of school. They are fine in the cold. Just don't leave them outside in the snow. Get a long skateboard if you are not a distance runner. Skateboard is better than bicycle or roller skates because you can jump off of it if your dog goes after something. You'll learn real fast after a few crashes. This is better than walking so they can at least trot and get their heart beat up.

  • @sml411

Yhh, I use to train as a sprinter... But i can jog for hours + Im really bad at skateboarding ¬__¬

The only worries I have about that is in a busy place like Oxford street I'm gunna look mad running around the city with a massive dog xDD

As for the family part, My friends all have lil siblings etc.

Im the typical person who will get a dog and will get rid of it becuase it keep chewing up the couches (: x

  • I have 2, and they're awesome. The male I raised from a pup mostly by myself and he is seriously protective. The girl couldn't care less. But they're very active and smart dogs that are friendly when they should be and less so when it is necessary. They're also just as happy lying around the house. They just want to be with people.

  • I was the proud owner of one of these amazing dogs and have never known a breed like the ridgey. they are incredibly loyal, family friendly, intelligent, easily trained ...just as happy running flat out through the bush or sitting near you catching some zzzzzzs.would recommend this breed for outdoors, young family 10/10

  • The rottie went for his neck (Lucky he had a thick collar on). Once he realized it wasn't just playing he fought back impressivell, especially for a dog half the rotties size. He got out unscathed except for some cuts on his face and paws. Together charlie and I were able to scare the dog away. Charlie got some extra doggie treats that week!

  • I got one of these from a puppy rescue at 8 weeks- Charlie is almost 4 now and is by far the best dog I've ever owned. Very easy to train and has a great disposition (Hes so gentile that you can take food right from his mouth without a second thought)

I definitely don't agree with the protection rating. One day when I was taking him for his walk a neighbors (abused) rottweiler escaped and attacked us. Charlie at first rolled over because he thought the dog wanted to play

  • i was looking at getting one but a bot concernd beause i have a maltese and i dont want it to get eaten has anyone got one with smaller dogs and should i be conserned if left alone to gether

  • I LOVE MY RIDGEBACK!

  • mine is mixed with shar pei greyhound and boxer, the true definition of a mutt.

  • 2 on protection

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL FAIL!!!!1

this tard doesnt know shit about the ridgebacks! if they can successfully kill a lion with next to no trouble then a human is no fucking problem! my ridgeback has chassed off a gang that tryed to jump me when i was taking her for a walk down the creek!

  • @frobinhood They never killed lions, they simply distracted and wore them out whilst waiting for the hunter with the gun to arrive, who would then shoot the lion. They used to do this in packs of around twenty. One ridgeback on its own would not stand a chance. I do agree that they deserve more than two treats for protection though. They can make decent guard dogs.

  • @DancinJim

Well the set up is 1 male and 4 females to kill a lion to be exact

and as for protection they deserve a 100% no ifs ands or buts about it!

just over 2 years ago i was assulted while taking my dog for a walk down the creek once the fight started my dog jumped in and took the 3 guys trying to jump to the ground in a matter of seconds! 3 huge ass lebs nearly 20 times her size she had no problem taken em down lol.

they are extremely loyal and over protective of their friends.

  • my firend has this dog

  • I have five ridge backs, and they are not a 'menace' in the garden, they never have been, they are the most loyal dogs on earth. There only problem is chasing deer. But they are the best house pet one could have.

  • I wonder how they are at pulling small carts or wagons. With their endurance and tolerance for heat and cold I would think they'd excell.

  • Grew up with these dogs as a little kid went right up to them pet them while they were eating picked up their puppies. They could have easily mauled me and killed my curious ass but they didn't. They are beautiful faithful dogs and i will always have a special place in my heart for them! Cant wait to get another one... R.I.P Bobby

  • We've had three Ridgebacks and none of them were aggressive. They were all neutered males and all of them--in their minds--believed they were lapdogs. They were great with kids, lazy old sleep hounds, and would do anything for food. :-)

Yes they can be stubborn, often assert themselves by taking a little *think time* before doing what you want them too, but for us that's been the only problem. And not much of a one.

    Absolutely love the Rhodesian Ridgeback.

  • German shepherd are better better :-)

    Belgian Malinois better :-)

than ridgeback aggressive, not so intelligent hehe

  • @Billabongs122988

do german shepards* and belgian malinois watch TV(notice animals and people on TV)?

    my ridgebacks love that. :D

  • I had my Rhodesian for 14 years and he never got aggressive, however, when the cable guy or other workers came into the house, he was very watchful. He would sit right next to me and just keep tabs, but there is no doubt that if someone would have come at me in an aggresive manner, he would have been all over them.

He LOVED to watch and chase squirrels and it always amazed me just how far he could see a squirrel way up in the trees several yards over. Great dogs.

  • | own a 7 month male ridgie, hes a 35kg lap dog. Even now at his young age he die for his mum so loyal and protective. Look out if your in the house uninvited but for one to be just generally aggressive. You would have to be a very irresponsible pet owner. because there just so smart and love to learn.

A little guidance and they'll train themselves.

  • I have a rhodesian ridgeback i had no trouble training her to do things shes grate only problem is i cant stop her wanting to hunt she loves it

  • i an thinking of getting this dog because i really like them does any1 know if it is hard to train these dogs. who ever replys gets a sub from me

  • @bcmoten

my dad has a kennel and we have two more little ridgebacks left for sale if ur interested.

they learn fast and it's not really hard to train them.you just have to have patience and it'll be all okay.

most of people who have aggressive dogs blame them and not themselfs when really,it's their mistake. :D

  • id like to get a 70-80lb ridgeback. i am going to get one when i own a home in the years to come, and probably a lab so hes got a buddy

  • Thanks to all of you who post comments about the breed. I have two sons ages 11 and 14 .We are getting a female Ridgeback from a well known breeder in Pontiac ,Quebec in 3 months .I am not new to dogs. I used to breed Germain Shorthaired Pointers. From your comments it seemes with this breed the early training will be the key ingredient in a happy healthy envirerment for dog and family. If any of you have any other sugestions for me I will monitor the site and wellcome all advise. Thanks

  • this is a nice dog. Lots of meat, tastes like chicken

  • I think the ridgebacks in this video are fairly overweight.

  • my ridgeback is only 6 months but is very good with children and the elderly, kind disposition. he is great w/ other dogs and is happy to run for hours but as active as he is hes happy to just chill all day on the couch. most of all he likes to counter surf, just last week he jumped up on the counter and ate 1 lb of cheese, 3/4 lb of pepperoni, and a foot and 1/2 loaf of bread. he took a well deserved nap afterward lol

  • @rathergophishin1 shunt feed the dog bread lol...they dont digest it just like chocolate...its like poison to dogs lol

  • @rathergophishin1 a pound of cheese? damn that mustve been one constipated dog!

  • I have an RR named Bruno. He is the most family friendly dog I have ever met. He is protective of the family too but not to a fault. He will growl but stay back. In some cases he is rather timid but still voices his disapproval of strangers. Everyone that meets him though loves him and as soon as he knows that this new person is ok than there is never a problem again. And he has very minimal training. He can do the basics like sit, lay, stay etc. And he comes immediately when called.

  • This video is very good, I have to say though, my RR Indi has the Complete oposite personality to most of what they said. Shes shy, Picky eater, can be very lazy. She can be stubborn at times but usually shes good at listening to our commands. She is highly intelligent and lets herself out to go to the toilet. She isnt aggresive, she was brought up with 3 very young children and she loves them to bits. She's very loyal dog. We've never had a problem with her digging in the garden. Thats Indi :)

  • and were not bred for fighting, and I pray that this wonderful breed never ends up in the hands of people like you!

  • Great video, too many myths in the comments though...

RR's are not naturally aggressive by nature...up until age of 4?!?...boisterous perhaps.

Good breeders do not cull any puppies-perhaps buyers should do their research properly and the ones that do would have noone to sell to! Even dermoid sinus (less than 1% of puppies affected, and not just RR's) can be operated on in most cases.

And as for the idiot who mentioned that other dog's would win in a fight...these are hounds...

  • @BluePittbull666, i cant believe you'd actually be stupid enough to say something like that? only true wankas would even question a dog fight, never mind going round saying one would kill another. To further your stupidity u got your facts wrong, they'd hunt the lion in packs of about 3-5.

  • I love my Ridgey, he's the greatest dog ever. He loves to snuggle and go to the park and play with other dogs. All the Ridgeys I know are sweet and playful.

  • @OrionKevin Amen! I have 2!

  • my dad owned a Rdgeback and when i was born, when i was bought home from the hospital instead of typical, jealous behavior of dogs, dads Ridgeback welcomed me and wouldn't let me out of his sights, almost my protector as a young toddler. i would recommend a ridgeback to anyone or family no matter what age.

  • the pittbull or other mastiffs could kill this dog in a dog fight.

i doubt a full grown male lion would run away from this ridgeback.

the lion would kill any ridgeback in a second.

  • @BluePittbull666 People that don't know what they're talking about shouldn't open their mouths. Who cares what dog would win in a dog fight?!?!?!!!

  • @BluePittbull666 People that don't know what they're talking about shouldn't open their mouths. Who cares what dog would win in a dog fight?!?!?!!!

  • get a KANGAL !!!! END OF THE STORY !

  • In Zimbabwe I had a neighbour who had a Rhodesian ridgeback. These are really good dogs I like them.

  • will never be called the Zimbawe ridgeback, because these dogs work and arent lazy communist murdering thieves

  • THIS DOG AINT SHIT! LMAO

  • I have one. It is a good dog, it jumps up at adults only to play, never goes about biting people and wants to play with people all the time. The only time he gets aggresive is if you try to attack one of the family or if you go in its cage or try to steal its bed.

  • I have a partial rhodesian, and I love her to death. She is a lot of fun. However she is not at all trustable off leash. Thats mainly because they need training early and we got her from a shelter when she was already an adult. Unfortunately not much of a ridge on her, either from chance or just that she isnt a full ridgeback.

  • Agreed Mark and that is why research continues to find the cause of this problem. Once the cause is identified and can be tested for , hopefully the breeders can then eliminate DS once and for all. This is where things stood with hip dyplasia about 20 years ago and by not allowing breeding with dogs with poor hips this has been all but eradicated from the breed. Again I stress the reputable breeder not the backyard or puppy mill.

  • The ridge in ridgebacks is NOT Dermoid Sinus, however cases of dermoid sinus are predominately found in dogs that have a ridge as opposed to dogs that do not contain a ridge. And it is is common knowledge that ridgeless dogs are in fact the more genetically correct dogs. Ridgeless dogs have been culled in the past at puppyhood, purely in the interest of looks.

  • Now, im gonna go and play with my Rhodesian Ridgeback

  • lolol poor mandy on her i have no life so ill fight the " cruel breeder" crusade. mandylion you are like the other no nothings of you ilk. i bet youre pro choice as well aint ya?

cal6006 is 100% right. the ridgeback is a hearty breed, i should know i have one. hes the best dog i ever had the pleasure of owning. as far as money is concerned most reputable breeders are fortunate to break even on the dogs, i suggest you refer to puppy mills when it comes to the blanket statements you make

  • @MandyLionWWIII

Your information is totally incorrect. The ridge and the dermoid sinus are not related. Research from Sweden in 2007 indicated that there may be a correlation but this has subsequently been proven incorrect. I suggest you research your facts before calling people liars. The dermoid sinus is also not a disease its a opening that may extend into the spinal cord thus causing infection. All reputable breeders will euthanase puppies with dermoid sinuses, not ridgeless.

  • @CAL6006

Judging by your level of denial I am guessing you are either a breeder or a show dog person with an agenda.

Anyone doubting what I said go to my channel and watch the documentary about pedigree dogs.

There is along with many other breeds a detailed expose on Ridgebacks, breeding practices, the ridge in relation to dermoid sinus AND the lies and denial by people like this one here.

People like this don't care how dogs suffer as long as money is made or it fits their sick idea of beauty

  • @MandyLionWWIII

I am neither a breeder nor do I show but I am closely associated with the international world of Ridgebacks. I am well aware of the documentary that you refer to and the misinformation quoted therein. The research that Jemima Harrison refers to in this documentry has subsequently been disproven. That documentary was long on hysteria and short on facts. Ridgebacks remain one of the healthiest breeds in the world today. I am not the one with an agenda.

  • @CAL6006

I am sure you are "associated".

Anyway... The truth is out there for anyone who wants to find it no matter how hard the likes of you try to cover it up.

    Take care

  • I have a Rhodesian "slickback" (no ridge) and he is absolutely the sweetest most and loving dog! He must go on a four mile run everyday or he will get very anxious and begin to whine. If you don't have the time to exersice these dogs I do suggest finding a different breed.

  • i would love one of these dogs, but we dont have the room so we got a smaller lab x staffie instead hopefully i will get one when i move out ;)

  • I grew up with two Ridgebacks. They were the sweetest dogs with us kids. But I wouldn't want to be the one breaking into a house with a Ridgeback. For everyone going on about the puppies without ridges being culled, not all breeders do that. Check out the Shawnigan Lake breeders. Their ridge-less puppies get sold off like the rest. Ridgebacks aren't for everyone. They need a firm hand, but they love to please. And just like any dog, there are always a couple that will give the breed a bad name.

  • I have a 7 month old male pup.but he growing very slowlly he isn't tall and strong like normal 7 month old RR Puppy.anybody can help me?

  • they are bread to chaice and run for hours

  • Dogs (animals in general) have different personalities, even within the same breed. They can also have mental defects/problems just like humans have. Barring genetic or inflicted mental instability, there is still the personality that can make any individual easy to deal with and/or difficult to train or be around. Training is a good way to protect yourself, your family, and the public in general. But, even good training is not always a cure for aggresive behavior.

  • I like this narrator better than the other guy who acts just a bit too excited and talks as though we're all children. This narrator reads for grown ups.

  • I had a female Rhodie for eight years and I must say that she was the sweetest, most intelligent and adaptable dog I'd ever known. What is said of their appetite and the fact that they're not picky eaters is true: please be careful - my Lyla got a hold of some wild mushrooms on a routine walk in the woods; she was dead in fifteen minutes. I'm still heartbroken four years later...

  • these are alot of work but theyre pretty decent dogs alot better than pittbulls, every pit ive ever owned has been nothing but destructive, these dogs have a really good temperment around the family

  • I just adopted a 2 year-old pb male from a shelter. I've been researching this breed for a little while. Was dropping off a job application and left with a dog. Go figure! I pick him up from the vet tomorrow. Can't wait!

  • @greenpalaka

I'm curious. Do you mean controversial since they've been brought into the metropolitan arena or do you know of controversies from the 'field'? I understand that as diamond mind guard dogs they guard a controversial labor/trade practice. Perhaps, there was controversy in south Africa amongst the races? Can you direct me to more info? Thank you.

  • @beenschmokin

    on the lighter side......

the ridge keeps a young child entertained for a good length of time....tracing and retracing. :)

  • @beenschmokin

Ridgebacks require owners willing to train them (set the bar, be the alpha) and willing to exercise them. Too many people seem to think that they are a 'status' breed and think they can include them in their metropolitan lives. What's good about that? When they give them up to a RR rescue and they are rehomed with a respectful, thoughtful person.

  • @cousinjimbo

stubborn.......like any great dog, it is important to establish your alpha status and train your dogs well. I hope the last two years have been wonderful with your dogs.

  • i got bit by one today .... direct to emergency room

  • my dogs a rodesian grey hound best hunting dog iv ever seen in my life but hes too old now so just laxs arwnd the house like a old man

  • mine is a mix :) its an australian shepard and a rhodesian ridgeback its a pretty black with brown and a white crested chest. shes my baby.

  • My first dog was a ridgeback. He was the sweetest thing you'd ever know, but he was dumb as a post. We never had any problems with aggression, but these are fair sized dogs, so keep this in mind if you live in a smaller apartment or house.

  • what happanes to the puppies that are born without a ridge you breeder basterds?

  • @105km They're sold just like any other puppy. However, they cannot be used as show dogs. That's all. If you want to go after someone, go after puppy mills and pet stores, not responsible, REGISTERED breeders.

  • @105km

    He is lying...

For the most part RR pups which are born without the ridge are "culled" which means killed.

What makes this even more demented is the fact that the ridge on a RR is actually a disease called dermoid sinus.

So they are actually killing the ones which are healthy (the ones without the ridge) and only breed the sick ones (the ones with the ridge).

I suggest people not getting this breed because none of us should support these kind of breeding practices.

  • the line down there back is actually a difformatty. The kennel club kill perfectly healthy puppies if the dont have one

  • @lrigyrtnuocyelyah one species diformity may become its kids necesity

  • @prjerry7 wat?

  • @lrigyrtnuocyelyah A philosophy on evolution, a statement on something you said about the dogs line. One species diformity [mutation] MAY [most of the times does not] become its kids necesity [makes it more adaptible, competitive].

  • Really annoys me when people get a dog like this then don't bother to properly train them, then post garbage on youtube because they are bad dog owners. Read breed standards all you like. These dogs need training at a young age. People like Mynameischip really irritate me, trying to stereotype. If your Rhodesian is aggressive, you have fucked up on the training, end of story. You should have gotten a smaller dog. Maybe you should just get a cat.

  • @landis69

most all dogs just need training and if your dog is mean then it might reflect on the owner....my uncle owned a few rots a few german shepards and a few pits and other assortment of dogs and they were all very protective but nice and kid friendly

  • @landis69 i agree with you but you know what worst,, when people get this magnificent animals or any other kind of sporting breed, and dont exercise them!!!! keep them in crates all day long and no walks! thats fking wrong,, why get a dog like this if your arent gonna make it run a couple hours a day?

  • @landis69 Rhodesians are VERY agressive in their early years, usually up yo 4. They begin to calm down after that. They are bred for running and hunting so that is part of their nature. thee is not much one can do to "calm" them down. Just make sure they get time to run and play during the day. I have 2. They learn fast and mind well but LOVE to play. It's just in their genes.

  • @landis69

hi landis69, my daughter has a ridgeback, he's 9 mo, and she's been trying to find good info on what type of trainer she should use...i read a lot of stuff and they seem to be harsh and looking at some of these people who use them to fight other dogs...my heart bleeds to read stuff like that.to me, all dogs are good, it's the owners who have no sense at all well if you have any good suggestions on training these types of dogs. i hope you reply

    thank u

  • @rosaspepe You don't really "need" to train these dogs as you would, say a rotty. As long as you bring them up properly in a loving environment they are great family dogs simply by nature. Socialize the puppy as much as possible with other dogs and other people from a young age. They need alot of exercise as well, so walk often if you don't have a large yard. They can look aggressive when they bark at people walking by your house but unless you raise it to be aggressive, it shouldn't be.

  • @landis69 i agree with you mate no such thing as a bad dog only bad owners

  • @landis69 i agree, i own a pure breed Doberman and she would not dare bite a flea she is so sweet. My children were safe, even from me...she sorta adopted them.

  • @Zironyxcyx

although training is a big part of it i would never trust a doberman just because when they get mad they ALWAYS go straight for the throat to kill.

but at the same time i never go to some 1 and say your doberman is fucking dangerous you shouldnt have it! because if its trained right it is harmless to its family/friends.

same goes for pitbulls and staffys.

  • i am 13 and i have had 3 of these dogs owning one now he is 6 months and he is the biggest pup i have ever seen he his bigger than a labrador at the minute, and his paws are bigger than my hands will be uploading some vids soon

  • i have had two ridgebacks and loved them dearly one master dogs that will not leave your side even when your on the toilet lol

  • man, most of those ridgebacks were fat

  • where i can watch real dog fight someone please tell me

  • @POZDRAW

You can't watch one legally 'cause IT'S AGAINST THE LAW. Because it's a sick, cruel "Sport".

  • @cowgirldragon YOU SUCK !

  • @POZDRAW

I believe you were looking in a mirror when you said that, as YOU were the one seeking to watch dogs kill each other. *cough* ASSHOLE! *cough cough*

  • What happanes with the puppys that are born without a ridge on their backs?

  • @105km They get culled.

  • @ZangyChetari

    thats inhumane

  • @105km Duh. Tell me, do you eat meat?

  • @105km some breeders kill puppies =( (I had heard that)

  • @SrNaitabes they kill the ones with birth defects not considered proper for the breed. Things like kinked tails and bad ridges, it's cruel and stupid but it does happen. My Rhodesian has a kinked tail, I could care less.

  • @landis69 That's just not true. When on earth have you heard that a breeder would put a healthy puppy to sleep if it has an incorrect ridge or a kinked tail?! RR pups with faulty ridges and tails and excessive white are sold as pets and they are not taken to conformation shows and used for breeding. That's all. Your dog is a perfect example - he or she wasn't put down! And how many times have you seen an RR with a faulty ridge? There wouldn't be any if they were put to sleep.

  • @landis69 Just check websites of some RR breeders and you'll see they don't put them down, they're sold to people who don't care if their dog fits the breed standard perfectly or not. The only RR pups that are (usually) put to sleep are those with DS (dermoid sinus). It's true that ridgeless pups used to be culled, but not nowadays, especially not in Europe or North America.

  • one time my step-fathers Rhodesian let the gas man into the house, then wouldn't let him leave for 5 hours until he got home. My step-father got home and the gas man was sitting at his kitchen table drinking a cup of tea. He had no choice, the dog let him in the house but wouldn't let him leave till the master of the house got back.

  • hehehe tipical.. they are very inteligent dogs.. best dogs i have ever had.
