What a fun piece! A virtuoso job of writing, and incredibly tight performance. Knussen shows great sense of form and development within a unified sound context. Some deep talent and ability here!

Knussen grew up around the orchestra - his father was the principal double bass for the LSO for many years. In addition, Knussen (as conductor) has been one of the best interpreters of the music of Elliott Carter. His background has given him a real depth of conception in his writing!
