Have to say, despite the recent Appleseed movies being truer to the manga than any previous film incarnation, it still bugs me that Briareos is portrayed as originally being Japanese. That's a little weird. Bri started his professional career as a mercenary in the Russian Federation, but his genetic background is really split between African and Spanish, and was one heck of a handsome guy, before getting caught in an explosion that destroyed most of his body.

@Shinhaquro I looked it up to see who else noticed this. ..So the CG Appleseed movies are in under TV Tropes as an example in their "Race Lift" category, right along side Avatar The Last Air Bender, and I'm assuming eventually the American production of the white-washed live-action Akira.

@Shinhaquro Yeah, the rare drawings you see of him back in V1 or V2 (I can't remember which) depicted him more like he's African/SPanish than he is Japanese. My bigger problem with this anime is that Shirow has always been a stickler for realistic (okay more believable) combat tactics and from some of the scenes, it looks too JOhn Woo-ish (not that I don't like John Woo movies but that doesn't fit well with Appleseed). I could be wrong tho'.

The english dubbing and american accent screws it up. It takes away the Japanese character and and more insightful, inquisitive, and non-arrogant view of things that is best transmitted through their language. I'll stick to the Jap version, with subtitles. The americans tend to turn everything into fare fit for infants.

Although I watch anime in English dub, I can't deny that you're right. Japanese voice actors deliver the dialogue sincerely not like if they were acting, but as if they speak seriously and from the heart. Although there are good English voice actors, most of the time their performance gives a flavor of "showmanship" ! (like acting on stage, not like in real life)

@ninmachine109 Try Ghost in the Machine: Innocence, and Final Fantasy: Advent Children for the nearest and best examples I've found SO FAR. I get the feeling more advances are being made all the time so keep your eyes open ;)
