It was NEVER OK for a woman to be forced to marry her rapist and that's NOT what it says. The man can be forced to marry her if she wants him. She cannot be forced to marry him.
@Bluebelle9289 1. That's what Jewish law says and it's based on the Bible. 2. You read a translation of a translation of a translation. What you read is NOT the Bible.
This is why i am not a fan of any religion, look what its done to people,it confuses people by all these different gods and makes people fight over who has the right religion like a guessing game like the old tv show Lets make a deal where you got to guess where the good prize is by picking door number 1 or 2 or 3 and then maybe its a good prize in the mystery box he offered on the show.god is like Montey Hall the game show host. :0)
@terabrat You mind proving your assertions, I checked quiet a few things translations and such and seen no mention of her getting a choice, closest was some saying she chose to have sex, but nothing about her getting to say no.
Deut 22:25 just before your cherry picked portion says this:
“But if in the field the man finds the girl who is engaged, and the man forces her and lies with her, then only the man who lies with her shall die."
This is all just customary tradition Jewish Torah laws. Societal laws at the time....not God's. It's how they interpreted the few laws that God did give them directly. Just like nowadays we or I should say the religious right, picks and chooses how to interpret laws using the Bible.
@DreamsOfCottages Actually Deut says that they are the laws of god. 4:2 You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you. These are considered to be part of the larger number of laws given by god.
@DreamsOfCottages Yes, but it's still the same god as the Christians :> There arn't really any places that it would be justified I don't think, I get the culture back then it was normal, but a eternal perfect god should have better laws and commandments.
@wolfwing1 I totally see what your saying except I don't view the Bible the same way you do. I see it as at the time those people in the OT also were interpreting God's own words before they spoke them. Just because God tells someone something doesn't mean they are going to carry it out perfectly and be good people. I don't think a crap load of the OT can be right. I don't see the Bible as literal 90% of the time...and a case can still be made about the Jewish tradition being the "law".
@DreamsOfCottages Your not nescarily who this is targeted at :> There are those that consider this to be 100% about rape and 100% by god, so just curious how people see the law with jews, and then if they see it different when muslims apply the same law now.
@wolfwing1 I might also add to chapter 4 w/ verse 19~"And the LORD directed me at that time to teach you the decrees and laws you are to follow in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess."
Notice where he says "laws YOU are to follow in the land". Nowhere does it say for anyone else. This was a tiny group of people that God ordered specific behavior from. I may also add that in this chapter Moses reminds them that they AGREED w/ God to these laws. It was a covenant/deal between them
@DreamsOfCottages Hence, these people all got what they bargained for. They wanted the land....God kept saying ok, as long as you_________ (fill in the blank w/ whatever he either told them to do or Moses said that God told him to tell them to do LOL)..etc etc.
I don't put a lot of stock in the Torah anyhow, cave dwellers writing out sharia law isn't for me. They chose to do it. No one forced them. Luckily we all have a choice as to acting like civilized human beings...or not.

You didn't answer the question. Where in the holy books does it say a woman can't be forced to marry her rapist?

Sign of the Times? What happened to objective morality? Something is either right or wrong and rape is as wrong a it always has been.

@PumpkinPixie1978 Problem is that what he presents here is 100% wrong. That's not what it says.
