Great playing! Thanks for the demo...weird tho'...I've been listening to that Johnny Guitar Watson track for the last few weeks on Youtube (I Want To Ta-Ta You Baby)..and then the first OTS demo I watch has it as a backing track...where did you get that from? Love that track..
I was torn....Nik....who I trust....advised the HRM....but for some reason I got the 50 watt non-HRM. Since I dont have a HRM here to compare at home side by side....I dont know what I'm missing if anything I can say this....I luv the one I have.
Did you build these or did you have Nik build them? I only ask because I'm getting ready to order my first Ceriatone in a few weeks and am building mine for the experience. So I was curious if you encountered any problems? Great playing too, by the way!
I agree with BluesRocker52. I've been trying to get an idea of these amps thru YouTube clips and virtually every one is in the same jazzy Larry Carlton style. CAN you use these amps for anything else?
Thanks for the tone comparison, but why does everyone playing a Dumble or clone try to play like Robben or Larry? Jazz, fusion? Why? Rock that baby and make it cry for momma! How about some booge rock or screaming leads for a change!
I have a Ceriatone HRM. I play blues, rock classic...And with the hrm I really think you can get a good rock sound and screaming leads. It's a really good amp. I have the OD on say 9-10 o clock for bluesy/dumble tone and kick in a bb-preamp, rc booster among a couple of other pedals to beef up the sound. Those pedals don't color your sound to much either so I can retain that dumbley sound but with more gain. But you don't need pedals beacause the HRM has an extra knob on the back for extra gain.
@BluesRocker52 Why should he play other stuff than what he really likes and can play very well? If e.g. he wanted a Rammstein sound, he'd buy a Recitfier. Hardly anyone plays a Dumble or a Dumble clone except for some tone freaks like the ones you mention and then some more. I'm happy with this tone comparison out of the hands of a good player, because you can downright forget most of the demos here on Youtube.
@BluesRocker52 The really puzzling thing about that is Robben Ford and Larry Carlton aren't well known at all, neither had any hits ever, where the hell are all these fans coming from? I had never heard of either of them until i started reading about dumble amps, clearly the dumble amp is more famous than any of its users except Carlos Santana. I have watched Robben's live act and i don't get what the big deal is, average vocals, typical jazz explorations, 3-chord blues, weak guitar sound .
@JamesNiskyMusic Not that i'm better than Robben, didn't mean to insult him or anything, just didn't think he was very well known but its not his fault i don't know the guy. Clearly he is doing something right. He has fans and i don't so i tip my hat to him. Sorry Robben. I do like his personality, very modest and intelligent. After hearing lots of hype about him the first time i heard him i was expecting something different, thats what i meant to say.
Thanks again for your videos!! A request- could you perhaps do a side by side comparison video (like this one) featuring the clean channels of both? Or, if you've sold the OTS then just the HRM. Thanks again!!
Kinda sounded like the HRM was a bit more buttery and smooth. Is that your take on it? Personally, I'm looking for that butter tone ... so if you had to suggest, the non-HRM or the HRM model?? Thanks!! Cheers!!
The non-hrm seems to have more body and warmth and a smoother overdrive to my ears, both sound great but I prefer the non-Hrm models tone over the HRM. Thanks for the comparison Marin ! Great playing by the way. Mike
Basic difference is that the HRM has a tone stack situated after the overdrive section. It's inside the chassis and uses trimpots i.e it is "set and forget".
there's also a minor difference as to where the clean channel master volume control is situated in regard to the channel switching architecture.

is that an es-335 copy you're playing? What make?

The none HRM is too compressed. The HRM is way more dynamic and expressive in my opinion. Guess its a matter of personal taste.

can you tell where you got that backing track?

Man, great playing. Such finite control and both amps are delicious. Nice work

The other question I forgot to ask is:
If you could only have one of these, which one would it be? The HRM or the OTS?

fantastic, my kind of tune and my kind of tone!!!

both sounded very good. it is as good as any other boutique amps out there.

I thought with the HRM you could dial in the non-HRM sound anyway, or change the HRM to match your needs. Is that not true?
Great playing by the way

The answer to your question is very simple.
Originals are rare so this world is filled with clones.

@BluesRocker52 I agree...
I'd like to hear if I can get a John Mayer type sound...
clean and lead as well
