  • I now have this car, with the DSG transmission. The engine in this car, the TSI - is shockingly high revving for a VW. It will absolutely pull clear to redline in every gear (well as far as I can tell.. haven't explored six gear redline lol). There are high revs and torque with this car. It could easily put more boost on ... you get the feeling the car is tamed in stock mode (to save money on warranty use events). Even stock though this will rapidly slay boring gas hog SUVs.

  • when you buy a civic, you get a honda... but when you buy a GTI, wou get a VW! both germans and japanese can build fantastic cars, but the japanese cant match the classiness of the germans. why have sake when you can drink henikin?

  • @aaronchungrulez I like GTI waaay more than Civic. I now own a Golf VI GT. However, japanese Sake can be extremely luxurious, delicate and expensive. And no I am not Japanese, I just think you should know.

  • @GapToN eh, maybe that was a bad example, looking in hindsight. i just think the GTI is sorta like a brick- old-school, and rugged, while the civic is like a polished aluminum box- modern and light, technically more reliable than a brick. but it lacks the "fullness" of a GTI, the brick has a core, the aluminum box is a metaphor to the civic beinc a reliable and modern jap-box

  • You know I never thought about it the fall of FORD due to them protecting the iconic mustang. Why not sale YOUR OWN product that does well outside of this country?... THEY FORD, GMC, & CHRYSLER OWE US BIG!

  • In my humble and highly accurate opinion, yes, the GTI is the best hot hatch available in North America(2008 GTI 2Dr BM 6MT is my whip). I'm always dumbfounded by Ford not bringing those cars here...although, from what I've heard it's simply to protect Mustang sales in the US.

  • Just got a mk5 gti dsg. It is wonderful, but i agree, Ford really needs to bring some of their European counterparts into this country such as the Ford Focus RS hatchback.

  • how can you hate dsg...shifts faster than is humanly possible with a manual...it's one of, if not the most, advanced transmissions in the world if you don't wanna pay 250k plus for a car

  • The DSG is consistently rated as "the best auto tranny ever". Its one of the only options that even matter. You make me sad.

  • damn right civic is cheaper.. and it sure looks like it.. and the interior feel is even worst .. you probably havent drove a vw but let me tell you for trying both the enginering is uncomparable as far as we are talkin about confort and interior noise and smoothness

  • we have 2 audis and i work at a skoda saloon :) probably i didnt drive a vw yet.(those two are part of the vw-concern) so i have enoguh experience with vw's.i prefer the civic's futuristic interior but that's personal.
