The Redskins were charged with unsportsmanlike conduct, and failed to convert the onsides kick, and lost the game.
I know the penalty, and I remember that it was against Dallas. Cowboys won by less than a touchdown because of that penalty and the Redskins failed to convert the onsides kick after it. They started the season 11-0 prior to it.

This is the EXACT reason why I wanted the Pats to win that game. So smug - even though they only beat 2 playoff teams and their opponents had a cumulative winning percentage of .333.
When the hair piece was brought in to replace coach Shula, I remember hearing that he'd won as many Super Bowls in 5 years as Shula had in 30. but then, I also remeber hearing/reading that coach Shula had as many loosing seasons in 33 years as johnson had in 5. For 18 games, the Patriots weren't perfect, but merely undefeated. Anyone who saw them against Jacksonville and San Diego knew they were physically and emotionally drained. And people who watched the Giants' playoff run knew they weren't your typical NFC team. This win shouldn't have been that much of a shock.

When the hair piece was brought in to replace coach Shula, I remember hearing that he'd won as many Super Bowls in 5 years as Shula had in 30. but then, I also remeber hearing/reading that coach Shula had as many loosing seasons in 33 years as johnson had in 5. Some things stand the test of time. Don Shula is, IMHO, the greatest coach in the history of the NFL and his '72 Dolphins are STILL the ONLY team to go undefeated in that same NFL history.

For 18 games, the Patriots weren't perfect, but merely undefeated. Anyone who saw them against Jacksonville and San Diego knew they were physically and emotionally drained. And people who watched the Giants' playoff run knew they weren't your typical NFC team. This win shouldn't have been that much of a shock.
