When It is time for the take down of the mini twists what is your method? I have just big chopped but I love mini twists and Dont want to loose lentgh breakdown hair after. How long do you keep them in for? And do you co wash while your hair is in the mini twists?
wowza those mini twist are so beautiful but take a long time (umm how long do men spend in the barbers chair?) anyways love the braid method n i definetly must try this. been 'natural' all my life and im always looking for something new. im no stranger to twist however mini twists is a whole 'nother thing (or so it seems) point blank (b/c rlly im babbling) i <3 the vid
Is a 2 1/2 year old too young to do this with? and how do i go about taking them out later on with out completely tangling her hair up? Please help a white mom out here! My daughter is bi-racial and has very thick hair with tight curls and im looking to do something different with it.
I am glad I watched this before trying my mini twist because I was going to do it the same way as Naptural85 but I think doing the braid out will be better...THANKS!
@Stephster90 Definitely do not comb them out, that will cause unbelievable tangling. But do put conditioner, oil, or even water on them if it makes them easier to unravel. I *always* unravel them one by one, but depending on how dry they are I may or may not add something like conditioner or oil in oder to make the take down process easier.
@madisoneli33 I "went natural" about 8 years ago via a 1 1/2 year transition. The very first thing I did, not to sound facetious, was *stop getting relaxers*. I continued to straighten my hair, pressing the roots as they grew out for about 6 months. When I had equal amounts of natural and relaxed hair, I started to wear my hair in roller-sets and braid-out styles. If you go to bglh (dot) com and search for "courtney thinkandgrowchick" you can read my entire transition story. HTH!
@meishabell54 Last time I did this, it took me a few hours (maybe 3?) to take them all down, but I did it leisurely while watching TV, lounging around the house, etc.
I tried your technique for "small twists". I only split each tendril into 2( I had 26 braids, 78tendrils and now have 156 twists, exactly. It was a breeze compared to my usual losing clips, missing tiny curls etc. Thanks!
I love this idea. I have yarn braids in right now and I am wanting to do another protective style and I've done mini twists in the past. Before the time drove me crazy! Thanks!
@theGLAMlife01 Absolutely! Mini twists are the "crème de la crème" way to see how long your hair has gotten if you do not wish to straighten or otherwise use heat.
Wonderful job, will definitely try doing them this way next weekend when I start my protective styles challenge from Nov. 1 - Dec. 31. This was right on time, thank you and Be Blessed and I'll keep you posted on how it turns out!
@MsYoungmoney2 I think one's ethnicity is not as important as is the texture of one's hair. If a caucasian person has very tightly curled, coarser hair then this style might be something worth trying. The more loosely-curled and finer one's hair is, however, then the more the twists are likely to unravel or "slip out". This principle hold regardless of one's heritage. HTH!
Thanks so much for this tutorial. I was planning to do nap85s method, so I really appreciate your ideas. This will be my 1st time doing it. Here's hoping that all goes well.
@auditab I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought of this then. I randomly started doing this one day when twisting my hair in big loose sections got to be too daunting. Yes great minds think alike!
This video is the one I have been looking for. I can't seem to get it. Your method is awesome. Each twist can't help but be close to equal side and I can't possibly get tired and "go big" to finish and get different size braids. Do all the math you want u made it "click"! thanx!
Girl you are a genius...I have been wanting to do mini-twist but didn't want to do are the fuss of parting my hair and sectioning. I am most definitely going to do it now. Very smart. Love how you broke this down. I am subscribing right now. :)
So I saw this and starting doing my mini twists on Monday! I was so excited. This is a great method, but I was a fool in thinking that I didn't have to detangle my hair fully or part it properly. I ended up having to undo other plaits from surrounding areas, just to get hair for my mini twists... So next time I'll certainly detangle properly first!
Thank you for this method. I have done mini twists in the past, but they used to take me all day. Today, I put mini twists in my 10 year old's head (in lieu or extensions) in about 3.5 hours. A FULL HEAD of mini twists on 14 inch hair in 3.5 hours. I am so happy. Now if only the take down could be so easy.
@rasuocd Prettydimplez had a video on the takedown. I think all she used was conditioner and it combed right out like magic! Check out her channel for it. =]
I love this video!!! I have always shyed away from mini-twist b/c the process seemed like to would drive me crazy....however you method is awesome....now I can't wait to try it!!!!!
I think that is EXACTLY what I am going to do with my hair. It looks absolutley adorable and your method is greatly appreciated! I think i'll film myself doing them then post it as a video response, that is if I don't go crazy first! LOL LOL
You are one brave chica!!! When I saw that you were going to create NINE twist from one braid all I could say was wow!! I will be doing this method for my August twist but I think I'll do three per braid, to save my sanity! thanks for the vid very helpful
i love your method i just unlovked my sons dreads and i have been looking for a way for him to wear his hair and this works out great for him thank you fdor posting this video

@kristenjdec I'm definitely still working on perfecting *that* art ;-) Naptural85 has a good video showing her take-down process if you want to check it out.
sooo clever! I was thinking about getting them put in professionally because I didn't think I'd have the patience to do it myself. but now I might try after seeing this new method. awesome :)
I use this method (but not with a precise amount of twists per braid), but i usually do it all at once, starting from the back so that the front is fresh when i am done
That has got to be a PAIN taking out. I did small twists last week--not mini ones- and they gave me CRAZY tangles at the ends so I can imagine what mini ones would do! I wish I could do minis, but I would be asking for toruble. Great video, though!
How long have you used this method for mini twist? How long does it take to get them out? If you have a genius method for getting them out please post that.
This is a really good idea. I like that you can adjust the size of the twists, like say you don't want them as small, just don't split the hair as much. Cool :)
Such an entertaining video (on a subject that's, let's face it, rather bland)! This is a good way of keeping even sections for anything (braids, twists or coils). The big braids themselves looked good on you also. Thumbs up!
