  • Fantastico!!!

  • I don't think he forgot the words. I think he forgot the chords to play, which doesn't make the situation less funny anyway. Loved it ever since I heard it on the 'Lonesome Day' CD single!

  • he gets applauded for it! AHHH YEAH! :D

  • 4.00 best moment :D

  • I love this song

  • I have watched this hundreds of times on DVD and the when he forgets the words, it fills me with such joy, it is such a beautiful moment.

  • He didn't forget the lyrics.. he forgot the piano chords.

  • Just came across this, hell given the amount of lyrics, guitar chords and piano chords, not to mention harmonica and other miscellaneous bits of music in his head I guess you are bound to forget something sometime, love the way he recovers and pushes through. If it teaches anything, especially to the younger generation, don't give up or give in, hang on in there and it for the most part works itself out. I'm amazed he found the notes, my recall nevers works that well. Awesome song and c clip.

  • this sounds like vintage bruce from the 70's

  • they never play the original Manfred Mann one on the radio

  • @nickjordan12345 Manfred Mann is a cover and a fantastic one, but the Boss ^^^ was the original.

  • The screw-up on the melody (not the lyrics, the lyrics were right, he just played the wrong thing on the piano) is actually why this is my favourite version of this song. Pop music is so manufactured it's actually a relief to see a real musician make a human error while performing. It makes it feel real. I absolutely love this video.

  • @IdiotSlayer I've witnessed the band screwing up occasionally. ALWAYS amusing!

  • I think this is a song of him being free for one day with his girlfriend. Having fun, being free with all of these crazy-fun people. I actually like this version and the sound of his voice better than the first record :)

  • Dude even though he messed up towards the end, its still a GREAT preformance. I'm only 13 and I still think Bruce is the best singer and preformer EVER. I've already been to 2 concerts. Hes 61 and still has the power of a 20 year old. They dont call him the boss for nothing.

  • @TreyTheHunter4 You, sir, are the most correct 13 year old alive.

  • I'm not a big springsteen fan at all. In fact there a some songs of his I cant stand to be honest with you. But this is one good song from him. I like the original version and the 75 version to this song, i usually don't like live versions to anything. I happen to stumble across this version last night on vh1 and these are the best vocals I've heard from him. Even if he did forget the words he rolls with it pretty good.

  • I love this song......I wanted to read T.C. Boyle's "Greasy Lake" after hearing this....very good song.

  • I don't think he forgets the words...just the piano part

  • Didnt Manfred mann write this song???

  • @psi4rick nope brucie did they made it famous though

  • @psi4rick No they covered this one though

  • @imsotravelsized yah and they covered blinded by the light

  • @bosstime007 They covered 'For You' too. According to Wikipedia (Im being extremely scholarly here) all the singles Manfred Mann released were covers.

  • @psi4rick hell no

  • @psi4rick I rofl'd.

  • I love it on piano the best

  • ahhh bruce ... what can i say.

  • what a great voice even years later

  • Bruce Springsteen is the Jersey Shore...not these MTV idiots. Asbury Park represent!

  • I love the stonedmud moment when he forgets the lyrics...right after the stonedmud referance. Peace. James from the group Stonedmud !!!!

  • it is about the youth, love, lust and the jersey shore

  • Isn't it the chords he's forgotten?

  • he's adorable!!

  • It's just a song about a bunch of characters from his younger days. I was at this gig, seen him 33 times and this night is in my top 3.

  • @obpkplayer1 damn good song kick ass good time good time along time a go

  • though they don't look nothing alike (maybe excepting their eyes),bruce reminds me a lot to jay kay,the way they talk is just identical, even their expresions,he also reminds me to dr. house at the beginning of the song when he's making funny faces.

  • Lyrics.... what's it all about?

  • @AnnMaryBlues i think it's about the brief love story he had a night. the spirit are bruce and girlfriend that "move" quickly in the night. i'm absolutely non sure

  • @gerlinooo There's a short story called Greasy Lake to which he alludes, if you read it, it might give you some more understanding on what he's singing about. I believe you're on track but maybe something's missing?

  • @gerlinooo its about restless teenage feelings that have trouble finding an escape to show their love kinda what u said

  • @AnnMaryBlues The lyrics themselves describe a group of teenagers — Wild Billy, Hazy Davy, Crazy Janey, Killer Joe, and G-Man — going to a spot called "Greasy Lake" near "Route 88" for a night of freedom, sex, and drinking.[4][6] But although their escape to the freedom of Greasy Lake is short lived, the emphasis is on the friends' togetherness.[4]

  • pure genius. amazing live performance

  • so awesome!!!

  • This version is amazin seen it dozens of times but still get goosebumps when the crowd shouts back in the chorus...man I love Bruce!!!! Even when he forgets his words

  • The "BOSS" indeed, what awesome rendition, timeless.

  • sweet

  • The un-plugged acoustic version..."I'm hurt..let me heal ya"...rock-n-roll distilled.. Dr. Bruce.... medicine man..thanks Dr. !

  • Lo Amo :) (anche quando dimentica le parole) Love u Bruce!♥

  • This is so endearing! And also one of the best versions of Spirit in the Night I've ever heard from him.

  • soooo sweet :)

4ever Bruce and the E-Street Band

  • He is so cute xDD

Love his face just when he forgets ;)

Would have loved to have seen him in like, '73 etc - but i'm only 15 so not possible x[

Saw him last year, though - I got to hold his hand through a bit of this song! :D :O

  • piano verision - best

  • eu te amo, schatz!

  • What a magic song!

    God bless you, Bruce.

  • Really good song!

  • I saw him several times in 1973, mostly at the Main Point in Bryn Mawr, PA (near Philly). I was hooked after the first time I saw him. My favorite place was at the Erlton Lounge & Bowling Alley in Erlton NJ. I saw him there in August 1973. Everyone was bowling & not even listening to him. Hard to believe, now!

  • Thanks, I saw Bruce live for the first time in 1973, & most recently last week. Love him just as much as ever!!!

  • Hahahahah, Bruce is the man.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG SO DAMN MUCH! (L)

  • bruce always puts me in a good mood. hes my favourite artist.

  • this is so sweet. happy birthday Bruce!

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRUCE!!!

  • Easilly the best version of this song.

  • I can imagine this perfectly...far out

  • actually he doesnt forget the words he plays the wrong chord after he sings 'hazy davey got really hurt' He should have gone to an em7 and I think he goes to a F major instead I LOVE the way he acknowledges it though THE BOSS!!!!!

  • He's so fucking great. i love that he forgets the words, it makes him even more real. how pathetic it may sound, springsteen is the god for me. i've loved him since i was born. And i'm so sad that he & e-street band will take a break, because together they are so fucking amazing.

bruce, you and your music will follow me to my death.

    /Emmy, 18 years from Sweden

  • Amen to that. 16 years old from Norway:)

  • amen

  • reminds me of my dad rip 1991

  • Excellent, thanks for posting this. Heard this on the radio the other day and was telling my Wife about him forgetting the lyrics. Love this!!!!

  • hah even tho he did forget the words, i think this is my favorite version of this song, and i loved how he handled himself when he forgot lol the boss is a champ

  • class

  • Ola, Barca, conocen mi?

  • This is my favorite version of the song...

  • Yeah true what CallumJStewart said; he doesn't forget the lyrics, just how to sing them correctly..

  • Possibly the greatest song ever made.

  • .. ya queda menos.. 28/07/09

  • 1. He's not over-rated.

    2. He's not Jewish... but it wouldn't matter either way.

    3. You're a moron.

  • Your right, although "springsteen" has the sound of a typical jewish last name, it is in fact Dutch. The two e's instead of the usual "ei" is where the name differs. Hes half Italian and half dutch. maybe a bit of Irish in there. I agree though, it wouldnt matter either way.

  • @saki3171 To start with he is catholic, so right of the bat you show how dumb you are.

  • Boss: "No! Let me think a minute... Hazy Davy.. Noo!"

    He's so funny! I love him! :)

  • saw him in Vienna too, it was amazing

  • thanks for the show in vienna yersterday!!!!!!!!!!he is the best

  • saw him the day before yesterday in Münich!

    amazing (ll)

  • Jo vaig tenir la sort de gaudir d'aquell concert l'any 2002 al Palau Sant Jordi de Barcelona....que dir.... va ser genial, com tots els concerts del Boss.

  • forgets the words? Whatever! The Boss always rocks!

  • exactly! :DD

  • always

  • Classic

  • Brue is Bruce of course...

  • yeah I am prety sure.. he starts singing: Hazy Davy got really hurt a couple of times till he gets the right key.. then continues.. anyways.. who cares what I think.. Brue is the man even when he screws up the chords.. He'll be over here in Europe this summer, let's see what he pulls out of the hat this time...

    cheers..

  • He doesn't forget the words but the chords.. still an unforgetable moment...

    Thanx for posting!

  • Are you sure? he laughs because he sings the previous strophe

  • i think he couldn't forget the chords because he always when is playing at piano takes a paper with the chords

  • Vaya ingles mas bueno.. jejejeje
