This is bloody awful!!!!!!! Who the hell thought this would be acceptable to the English? This is nauseating, third-rate American schmaltz showbiz crap! It is simply the most appalling rendition of my national anthem I have EVER EVER EVER heard. We will be the laughing stock of the world if this is the way it will be played at the Olympics. The only way it should be played is by a band of the Guards accompanied by about 50,000 ordinary English.
You are of course entitled to your opinion. Indeed I share your thoughts, but I would not be so rude about the American 'schmaltz'- as you put it. The fact they did not know the words was extremely dissapointing. I would not worry too much. I feel sure it will not be repeated in this manner at the Olympics next year.
Yes I know it was exceedinglly poor form, in front of Her Majesty too. I'll wager Mr White hates to be reminded of this incident, ah well sorry Willard!..
Actually, I think this is a really good version. Strangely, it had that mix of popular solo singing with the triumphant operatic singers. Awesome piece : )
Like most things in life, it is a matter of choice. I personally do not like it very much. I believe it was arranged for all 'races and creeds' represented, to show a united front and pay their respect to HM Queen Elizabeth II - which they duly did. The fact that the lead male singer could not remember the lyric, must have been a cause of great embarassment...
