OK, I think in a little bit Hall and Oates will start getting into a rhythm; This is 1980, right? I think in 1981, they'll start kicking ass and taking names. By the way, Daryl looks strange with a beard these days. Oh well...
This was my fave song by Hall and Oates. And I'm also not ashamed at all that I though Darryl Hall was really good-looking. I had a poster fo H&O on my wall.
Hearing this song just chokes me up a bit. It reminds me of being a young child, when things were much simpler. It's a great song. Thank God that Hall and Oates are still around, because too many artists have died way before their time. Even into the 2010s, they remain strong as a duo: Reunions and new tours alike!!!
This song was never big on the charts, yet they played it at every concert I'd seen of theirs (three in the early '80s). I, personally, think it's a fine number. But it sort of leads me to believe that Wait For Me was that sort of song that the band themselves really loved and decided to do and promote, regardless of others' opinions.
I think that every artist has that pet creation that they're proud of, no matter what others think.
This was the song that made me a Hall & Oates fan, and, its still my most favorite song of theirs. The emotion in Daryl Hall's voice is incredible, and, those soulful harmonies are there in abundance. Thanks for posting this. It brings back good memories.
I still have X-Static and all H&O's albums on vinyl, and I remember listening all night long to the radio for this song to come on, and when I would hear that initial guitar lick, God, it was awesome. Daryll Hall's voice would scream out with urgency...Wait for Me!
Love the east Pennsylvania (where they were from) Amish horse hoofbeats in the background of this studio version of the song - a nod to their "blue-eyed soul" roots. ">)
This song is usually better when it's live, but I had to come see this. I never saw the original video for it. Very nice, and of course, a little strange, just like most of their videos. ^.^
Hall and Oates broke up and got back together and for the life of me the reason for them breaking up was so stupid over their names was silly; However, they survived that, got better songs and ripped it wide open.
This is my fave Hall and Oates song. I recorded it off the radio and also had it on a K-Tel collection. Hall & Oates were my fave group through most of the 80s...
They are one of the best groups I ever listened to and still listen to there music to keep myself calm when I stress over life's everydays doings. I love watching these guys and only wish we could turn the clocks back in time again.
Darryl Hall was one of the best singers of the 80s. It is hard to imagine that so many people failed to appreciate his talent, range, power, intonation - just a perfect voice for this era...and John Oates complemented him very well in the harmonies.
Boy, it's amazing the memories & feelings that somebody can have associated with one song.
I remember as a kid, walking back home, coming back from a drugstore, after picking up that week's stash of comicbooks, enjoying a Slurpee (in a plastic cup that had a pic of the superhero, the Yellowjacket on it), & listening to a great new tune on the boom box by Hall & Oates called Wait For Me.
After finding this video,
I'm inclined to go on E-Bay & see if any collectors are selling that cup.
X-static was one of those rare albums that every song was great! oates once said this was his favorite album.it was a change from the somewhat depressing "she's gone"era and was full of feel good upbeat material like "portable radio" proving what versitiliy, genius and honest song writing will do for longevity.trully classic American style that will surely never be forgotten.long live Hall&Oates and they're doing just that!
@stymie86 Depressing "She's Gone" era? There were several albums between Abandoned Luncheon and X-Static! War Babies is one of the greatest rock albums of all time, and there's nothing depressing about it!
Must be the bells and the horse-march like percussion that I find some Xmas spirit in this one, one of my all-time favourite songs from the late 70's. Wonderful music. Thanks.
Sara is such a lucky woman, beloved by Daryl. In this song, she might not be the one, though. This is my most favorite Daryl's video because I think he was most handsome back then. I like his hair. He still is handsome as you know.
WOW...Wait For Me...WHAT a great song!! Unless it's just me, I never really heard this song much, probably because it was somewhat overshadowed by H&O's other hits, but Wait For Me bears the signature elements unique to Hall and Oates' strains. Hall and Oates also had massive crossover appeal. I will never forget the Saturday back in the 80's as I tuned in to find this dynamic duo rockin' the house on none other than Soul Train.
not reliant on excessive props or technology - just pure harmony, melody and musical creativity - this is a special duo - check out "Its a Laugh" as well - 2 of my favourites with lots to choose from - rock on Darryl and John - thanks for many memories!
i remember "revieving" this on radio clyde - (the Tiger Trial) the prize for the best comments was a meal for 2 - i won- i said it had a great hook and would be a massive hit (wrong - i dont think it even charted in the uk!!) - i also "won" a copy of the single. Happy Days!

Hall and Oates were one of the greatest bands of all time. It's hard for people to recall exactly how massive they were in their prime. Raw talent like this should be bottled and shared with the nonentities who pass as pop stars today, but do not have any musical ability. It's not rose tinted glasses that suggest that the music of yesteryear was better, it just was, as shown by its longevity and enduring popularity. Hall and Oates and others of their time will be remembered many years from now.
@eightiessongs wow! who knew? where did they come from? what an amazing voice. really, Daryl, you have been told over and again how good you are. this time its different. In short, Im glad america gets to feel what you guys have been putting out! Thankyou again.
Jesus what a bold, beautiful song. I looked so forward to playing this in our sets years ago....the harmony between John Oates and G.E. Smith..during the bridge..out of this world. What made a lot of these bands so wonderful was their use of the minor 7th which seems to have been forgotten in modern rock like some ancient artifact of Egypt
You have EXCELLENT taste! I can't agree with yuo more. I repeat Daryl's part on the WATW video over and over again! It also looks like he puts his heart and soul into it. LOVE HIM!!
Love this song, noticed some comments down there about 21 year old's liking Hall and Oates. Well I am 23 and have liked them since 20, so there are more out there. Great Video! Trying to figure out that lead intro G.E. Smith plays.
I agree with bermondsey1066 and cjdiazof3... this song did not get played like it should of .. I use to hear it only at night when they did not tell you who sang it and tonight I found it .All I could remember was wait for me the light is fading fast... but then again before I found youtube.. I did not realize anyone listened to real music anymore
O Man I'm so fond of this song! I can play it over and over again withou getting tired of it, I guess that's what you call a great song! Add to that an awesome video...
ps: gotta love the Richard Dean Anderson vibe also x) I wish more people wear leather ties!
That wasn't an H&O song, it was from Daryl Hall's first album. I vaguely remember the video for Dreamtime, not exactly innovative, even for the 80's...

Thank you for posting this song

O Man I'm so fond of this song! I can play it over and over again withou getting tired of it, I guess that's what you call a great song! Add to that an awesome video...
ps: gotta love the Richard Dean Anderson vibe also x) I wish more people wear leather ties!

Love this song. Does anyone rember the video for "Dream Time"? I think that was the name of it. It was in the late 70;s?

That wasn't an H&O song, it was from Daryl Hall's first album. I vaguely remember the video for Dreamtime, not exactly innovative, even for the 80's...
