@gastank43 Thats right, thats why when you drink coke your teeth have a gritty feeling afterwards as you demineralise the top layer of enamel. Luckily saliva buffers the acid to calm down the pH, but regular sugar intake and acidic drinks ensure a regular low pH in the mouth (sugar feeds the acid producing bactia in plaque) which leads to dental caries a.k.a. tooth decay. Most carbonated drinks are in the pH range 2-3 much of the acid being from the disolved CO2, tea and coffee around 5.5.
