If you mix "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" (1919) and On the Nightmare by Ernest Jones, you get this gothic, German expressionistic little masterpiece!!! Shadow/ghoul/incubus-like thing causes sleeping girl in virgin white dress to have a nightmare! Nice, eerie, ethereal music embraces the mood of each scene!
