  • It's Not just the pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers..the GENETICALLY modify food..splicing genes from other foods to give what they are working on the properties they want..It is NOT to be confused with hybridization..which is bad enough because you can save seeds from hybridized foods. This goes WAY beyond Hybridization..and one of the side effects...is the fact that food that once was healthy..in certain cases can now have toxins it didn't before! FDA can no longer be trusted!!

  • It'd help to know what variety you've got if you want an explanation. Most commercial apples are bred for shelf life (can't sell what doesn't last). A Red Delicious or Fuji is going to last a lot longer than a Pink Pearl or Sansa.

Also, there are no GMO apples for sale yet. There are some awaiting gov't approval that have had the polyphenol oxidase genes silenced so they don't turn brown when cut (no trasngenes added [not that transgenes are bad], just what's called antisense insertion).

  • @Zhavlon Thanks. I believe the apple that "exploded" was a red so-called delicious apple.

  • @wellnesswithdeb Ah, I should have figured it was Delicious! They're built to last which is why we grow so many of them. You can't sell what can't ship, unless you sell local. Word is they're on the way out as growers look for newer varieties. I kinda like them myself, but there are better apples out there. If you ever find a SnowSweet, now there's an apple. I've never seen them for sale but they're great. Very sweet (some they're too sweet but I disagree), and IMO with hints of lychee.

  • Yup, that's an apple, they don't turn to dusk you know. Heck, they'll overwinter on the tree! Ask a plant physiologist, apples naturally make formaldehyde, as does your body. Plants are chemical factories, making all sorts of poisons for defense. Why do you think bugs don't just eat them all? Neither they nor synthetic pesticides hurt you is because dose makes the poison. I do care, and I thought Food Inc was biased trash. The last time I was on an apple orchard was yesterday. I go weekly.

  • That ..."thing" should be well and truly dust by now. There is a list of the top 10 most sprayed foods. Apples is on it. 1/4 of all America's couples are now sterile. Sperimical GM corn could be the cause. 200 000 Americans die every yr from treatable infections. Consumption of antibiotic resistant GM foods /dairy could be the cause. Low income (African-American) areas also receive milk from dairies nearest nuclear pwr plants. Fight back, America.

  • @ChrizstianC Toxic waste dumping in low income and black american neighborhoods...we just covered this in my sociology class. It's wrong, it's racist and classist, but ultimately the food industry will have everbody if people are not willing or able to fight back. It's already beyond race. They want to take away everyone's power to choose what to eat. EVERYONE.

  • @wellnesswithdeb Here in Australia we're just now seeing the beginnings of the Monsanto war, but I've been aware of it for many yrs. Greenpeace Aust destroyed a GM wheat trial. Sadly, not a lot will change unless ppl stop eating what they are being fed from supermarket / fast-food chains. Starving the corporations is the only way to changing this sick and predatory aspect of society. America claims its fast-food industryis part of culture now. My psychology lecturer likens fast-food to a cult.

  • @ChrizstianC I can only hope that Americans will wake up and be willing to take that kind of a stand against Monsanto and the food industry. As for the cult mentality, I'm beyond the social consequences of breaking food social norms. People have always thought I was odd for being health conscious. I'm grateful for how green juice and raw veggies and fruits have made it possible for me to exercise again after getting hit with osteoarthrits. I've let go of what they think. Peace.

  • @wellnesswithdeb

In my town, an entire black community was recently discovered to be sitting on top of one of the most toxic sites in America. Nevermind that local Governments knew about it for over 50 years and kept quiet, and only when someone living there discovered it did the gov become suddenly concerned and began evacuating people. No coincidence that we keep hearing about this same sort of thing all the time. It's a damn shame what the beasts are doing to us.

  • @AllPro777 We covered this topic of waste dumping in black and poor neighborhoods recently in my sociology class. It was shocking to learn about it.

  • If we can get them labeled, then at at least we will have a choice and know what we are eating. How about doing some tests with animals to see if they eat gm produce. There was a study done recently that showed mice avoided GM corn, and only ate the non-gm corn. Keep up the experiments!

  • @teknomadics I just hope that more people will wake up and become as smart as those mice. Peace.

  • Bon Appetit
