  • Well let's see, a collar and leash are about 15 dollars. And I know we don't know the whole story -- Such as if it was a stray and he was trying to HELP it. But I also know that I sure as hell don't like to be dragged by my neck and I bet he doesn't either.

If he did find it and is trying to help it, i.e. the cell phone, great. but he gets a bit rough with him just before he goes behind the car. I mean, if I wanted to help a stray I wouldn't necessarily use the scruff. And it is a pitbull.

  • Thanks for watching Hannah, I agree with you

  • Perhaps your right about the hoops, but there is easier ways to control a dog, Thanks for watching

  • yeah he should get a coller and a leash

  • Thanks for watching John

  • I don't think we know enought about the situation to make a judgement on it, but I don't like the use of a cell phone. It could be the dog was a friends and he was just trying to get it to a safe place.

  • Your right of course Ervan, it may very well have been just that. Thanks

  • Hi Walter,

What i could see in the video, that dog was frightened,in some way,i know with experience with a dog that i used to have a few years ago,if i ever was near either a road, or as you filmed at a railway crossing,i would carry her across,i would never drag her with the collar,as far as i am concerned that guy does not know how to treat a dog with love and effection.

    Sorry Walter,if my reponce sounds severe,but i love animals,...............John

  • No need to be sorry John. Most of us love dogs, so you are among a majority . This forum is for just that, expressing our opinions. You express your quite well. You respose most likely isnt severe enough.

  • I'm not sure what he was doing apart from the fact that he needed a leash and it would of pleased me if he had bumped his head on that railcar when he bent over. But on a more seriousnote there could of been lots going on in that situation. He could of stolen the dog and be dragginghim back while he phones his friend to come and pick him and the dog up. Or maybe it was a friends dog that escaped and he just found it and has no idea how to handle animals because he's not got one of his own.

  • Or maybe he was in a panic because the dog had something in it's mouth that it would not put down or was stuck and he was trying hard to get the dog to let it go and at the same time he could be phoneing for help. They say video never lies but we all have think hard when we see a clip and not jump hard on our initial thoughts.

  • Thanks for you well thought out discussion about this, and I appreciate your input. If it causes even one person out there to treat their animals better then it worth mentioning here,

  • I would say he could of taken his belt off and used it as a leash, but I've seen kids now and they have there pants falling off, so I know that guy would not of had a belt ;-)

  • LOL Your right, I thought about the belt myself, but for sure he may have lost his pants, I can see it in my mind, him standing there with a basketball under his arm, a phone in one hand a dog in the other and his pants down around his ankles LOL

  • Did you really expect any different from him?

  • Thanks Elton :-) for comming to my defense

  • If it caused pain or injury to the dog, it's definitely cruelty. I would've called the police and allowed them to decide if animal cruelty charges was warranted. I could not just stand by and not do anything.

  • If it caused the dog pain or injury, then it was most certainly abuse. If I had witnessed that, I would've certainly called the autorities right away and let them decide if animal cruelty charges were warranted. I probably would've lectured the guy too on the presence of leash laws and the dangers of trespassing on railroad property if in fact he was. Good catch, But I really believe you should've done something.

  • Ted he was a lot farther away during the short time I watched him I had anticipated he was coming my way by the time I realized he went the other way he was gone. Had he gotten close enough I would have at least investigated the situation Politely of course, Thanks for you on the money diagnosis of the situation,

  • From the looks of the dog seems to be healthy. The dog probably got away and the owner may have forgot the leash. We have a problem in a town just 8 miles north of me where an Animal Control Officer shot over 200 dogs and dumped them into a creek...now that is animal cruelty. It appears this guy in the video threw the ball into the woods. Hopefully he picked up the dog.

  • Micahn that is bad news about the control officer, He should be put in a kennel LOL Maybe you right ce could have picked up the dog, all I know was the last I saw him he was dragging the dog around the railroad car

  • This is a difficult one Walter, this man certainly doesn't know how to handle the dog properly, he's probably doing what he thinks is right...however it's the same when you see parents treating their children in the same way in public, it's just not right. If you own any animal, then you should learn how to treat it with respect and care for it properly.Goodness knows what this poor dog goes through in private, if his owner is like this in public...Superb, thought provoking video Walter..5* Bob

  • Thanks Bob, one thing this video has succeeded in doing is provoking thought and discussion from the viewers out there, some say I should have done something, but I dont have the good knees anymore to run far enough to overtake him, I will be watching out for him, who knows someone on Youtube might recognize him. So in a way I did do something about it, I posted it here for everyone to see. I really couldnt tell at that distance exactly what he was doing or even judge his demeanor

  • The guy should buy a collar and leash for his dog.

  • Yes he could. He can afford a cell phone. If he just didnt have it with him then he could call someone. Most likely he just used poor judgement at the time,

it could be even more cruel to let it run free into the traffic, so under the circumstances he was controling the situation somewhat. Thanks for watching and contributing to the discussion

  • a wild guess,

The dog got out of a back yard!

He and others were looking for the dog!

the man with the dog found him.

He was on the phone telling others that he had the dog!

Looks like it was not his dog or he would not have to hang on to it!

But I don't think he was hurting the dog!

The dog was maybe confused because he may have not knowen that man.

    Just my wild guess

  • A very plausable scenerio Wayne, delima solved perhaps, but if that was the case it would seemed better to just hold the dog and wait for help. Thanks Your guess is a good one,

  • Or, probably he was found lost dog somewhere my guess...and, did he does was abused his dog?

  • Thanks David it could be so

  • Welcome Walter, and, umm that what a shame!

  • Walter I have to look at this on the bright side.. It is hard to hold a ball, cell phone and keep your dog from running away. If it was my dog and I had to catch it when it got loose and it did not have a collar I would grab it by the back of the neck. Lets say that is what was going on! Also to free up my hands I would throw the ball away so I could come back later and get it!

  • Your right Earle, the ball would have waited patiently in the bushes somewhere untill his return, Maybe he was calling for help,

  • it did look like he was holding the dog at the end, hope he was not dumping the dog .knowing me i would of went over and asked him if he needed some help most of the time we travel 2 or 3

  • I probably would have asked but he was far off and going the other way

  • It may have been a stray dog that he's tryin to bring to its owner. Actually, though dogs can be moved by means of the scruff of their neck when they are puppies.

  • Yes maybe it was a stray dog, If he had problems he could have called help to come and just waited with the dog, there are various other solutions other than just dragging it along

  • Yeah, I just returned our neighbor's basset hound and all I had to do was call his name and he followed right along, so if I were him I would just call it and see if it would follow along.

  • Walter, I've looked at this video a couple of times now - the guy does nothing to the dog that indicates spitefulness or cruelty - clumsy and inconsiderate, yes, but deliberate cruelty, no.

A dog lead would have sorted out that situation.

I think the guy just needed some guidance on how to look after his dog properly. - Mike

  • I believe you right Mike, that was my basic train of thought as well

  • The man never learned so how can the dog. An ongoing problem in the struggle of life. Knowledge and what to do with it. I don,t think the young man was intending to be mean. He was trying to do to many things at one time therefore his impatience came out. We see people behave that way with their children. IT DOESN"T WORK. I'm going to stop now Walter. I'm thinking to much.

  • Thanks Hans, I do understand, sorry to make your blood pressure go up he did seem to have oo many eggs in one basket

  • This guy should have stopped to talk into that damned cell phone. Or he should have made his call and afterwords deal with the dog in patience.

It looked to me as if the poor dog didn´t knew what to do or where to go or where his owner wanted him to go.

To some people are those God-danmed cell phones more important than the real world around them.

  • Your right ingo, over here we have kids and adults killed frequently trying to drive and use a cell phone at the same time. The dog was very confused, so if he wasnt being physically cruel he was being mentally cruel

  • Very strange and disturbing behavior?

But I don't think it would have hurt the dog

by holding it by the scruff of the neck.

It was like the man was trying to keep hold of the dog

as if the dog was going to run away?

  • Thanks Martyn, some dogs will bite you if you treat them rough. Guess hes lucky the dog tollerated it

  • I agree with guitars14 and Im hoping, from the looks of things, he didn't have a collar or lead for his dog, that I could see, and that he just didn't want the dog to run away... hopefully.

    I also agree with down2pk...

  • Thanks Paul. That seems to be the most popular consensus. Thanks for watching and commenting. I would never do that myself though. He can afford A cellphone so he could get a leash LOL Maybe he absconded with someone elses dog.

  • yeah it sucks to be a dog when there are horrible owners out there.

  • Thanks for expressing it so well. Actually A dogs life is often quite miserable if mistreated or abused

  • I wouldnt do that to my dog but it looks like he's trying not let it run away maybe. I would like to think the owner is just trying keep his dog safe but who knows...

  • He was a stout guy. I bet he could carry the dog and kick the ball along the way LOL Thanks for you comment Your probably right, Thats why I said I thought he could handle the situation a bit better.

  • But then he would've had to put down the ball.

  • Thats mean, I have a 3 month old puppy and would never harm him or any animal, because I wouldnt want any one pulling and dragging me around treating me bad, I dont blame the dog for not moving

  • I figure the animal was totally confused as to why he was being treated that way. Most likely if he treated the dog nice it would follow him with out being dragged. My opinion is if you can affor a cell phone I bet you can afford a leash or at least a lengh of rope. I dont think he was intentionally trying to hurt it but I agree it semed kind of mean

  • I understand because my dog follows me without a leash, he may run to play or get kinda hyper lolo but still follows me

  • Same here. LOL
